Finish dishwasher rinse aid review

Rinse aid Finish_2The final steps in washing dishes in a dishwasher are rinsing and drying. The quality of these steps largely depends on the rinse aid you use. The market offers a wide variety of rinse aids, with the most popular being Finish rinse aid. This is what we'll be discussing.

Composition of the rinse aid

According to the label on the bottle, Finish dishwasher rinse aid contains three ingredients:

  • nonionic surfactants from 5 to 15%, which suppress foam and prevent darkening of dishes;
  • polycarboxylates are substances that enhance the effect of the previous ones and soften water;
  • Preservatives are substances that neutralize odors and prevent the growth of microorganisms and mold.

How to use

Take a look at dishes that have dried naturally after hand washing; you'll definitely see stains and streaks. This isn't because you didn't wash them properly, but because the water contains various impurities. To prevent this from happening, and to keep glassware, plates, cutlery, and other dishes sparkling and looking like new, rinse aid is used during the dishwasher rinse cycle.

Additionally, dishwasher rinse aid is essential for faster drying of dishes. It reduces the surface tension of water, allowing it to evaporate faster. The key is to use the rinse aid correctly. The dispenser is usually located on the dishwasher door and marked with a flower. Don't confuse it with the detergent compartment; pouring it in along with the detergent will have no effect.

So, before starting the machine, you need to pour the detergent into the dispenser according to the instructions on the packaging. However, all dishwashers are different, so you'll get the exact amount after a few washes. Overdosing is just as bad as underdosing. Your dishes will end up with a white film, which is not good.

Please note: Most modern dishwashers have a special indicator that will notify you when the rinse aid compartment is empty.

Pros and consFinish rinse aid

The purpose of a mouthwash and how to use it are all perfectly clear, but it's worth understanding the pros and cons of Finish mouthwash. According to the manufacturer, the advantages of this product are as follows:

  • gives exceptional shine to dishes;
  • drying is fast and most importantly better;
  • protects dishes from water drops and streaks that remain after drying;
  • Protects dishes and the machine from limescale.

If we talk about obvious disadvantages that can be identified even before you try this product in action, it’s the price. The product is not cheap, so people often think aboutWhat can I use instead of dishwasher rinse aid?.

I've only used Finish, so I can't compare it to anything else. Well, it turns out there's nothing special about it, I'm not thrilled, and it's pointless except for drying. Without the product, the dishes don’t dry at all, and as for streaks, there are none even without it. The main thing to remember is that the dosage will determine how well the dishes are rinsed from soap. The harder the water, the more rinse aid you need. If your water isn't hard at all, you can use half the amount and dilute it with water. A 400 ml bottle is economical; I haven't run out yet, and it's been 4.5 months already.

My dishwasher is several years old, and for a long time I used tablets as a detergent. It turned out to be inconvenient, since I had to split the tablets in half. We switched to powder and, accordingly, rinse aid, which, as I understand it, is supposed to wash away any remaining detergent, leaving the dishes sparkling. Regarding the first task, the powder rinses off easily with plain water; there's not even a odor left behind, and the same goes for the rinse aid. I can't say much about the shine, though, since we don't have many glasses, and the ones we do have seem to sparkle. And finally, drying. The dishes dry beautifully even without the detergent.

So, the conclusion is that there's not much difference in washing with fabric softener. The bottle only lasted 1.5 months. In my opinion, it's worth saving on.

I give Finish rinse aid a 3 for the disgusting smell it leaves on my dishes. That's the only downside; everything else is fantastic, especially the crystal shine. No other product does such a good job on dishes. I have to wait for the incredibly nasty, simply disgusting smell to dissipate after washing. If it weren't for that, I'd only buy this product.

After purchasing our dishwasher, we immediately started using this brand's rinse aid because the manufacturer guarantees its quality. We refill our dishwasher with rinse aid every 2-3 months, depending on how often we use it. This rinse aid is distinguished by the following:

  • economical to use;
  • any dishes shine, even porcelain and stainless steel;
  • the dishes are absolutely dry;
  • there are no divorces left.

There were some downsides, too:

  • It is extremely inconvenient to pour the product into the tray because the bottle is large and has a spout, and the product spills out;
  • high price.

Overall, this is a must-have product; my dishes are perfect after using it. I recommend it to everyone.

A long time ago, I can't even remember when it was, I bought Finish, but I've forgotten what it was like. I decided to try it again, and it turned out to be terrible, and not cheap either. I'm not happy with the fact that it leaves a cloudy residue on my glasses and a film on my spoons and forks. My other dishes are fine, no streaks. Overall, it doesn't provide the exceptional shine that was promised. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Once again, we're convinced there are as many opinions as there are people. Until you try it on your own car, you won't know anything. Happy testing!
