Which dishwashers are the most reliable (review)
Buying a dishwasher is a serious matter. Finding and choosing a reliable model requires visiting multiple stores and comparing dozens of dishwashers based on their specifications. Reliability can be discussed at length, but if we take a logical approach, a dishwasher's reliability can be assessed based on very specific criteria. This article will discuss what you need to pay attention to to avoid disappointment in a couple of months. We'll also provide an overview of the most reliable models available on the home appliance market.
What does reliability mean?
When searching for a reliable model, consumers examine the characteristics of dishwashers. Many people define reliability as build quality, component quality, and country of manufacture. Some judge reliability by price, while others base their choice on reviews and the number of service calls. Let's take a closer look at these factors, presenting a list of criteria for assessing reliability.
- The material of the parts. This is one of the first criteria to consider when choosing a dishwasher in the store, as you can see and even touch the interior of the machine. In the most reliable dishwashers, the baskets for dishes and cutlery are made of stainless steel or steel with plastic elements. The same applies to the spray arm and coarse filter.
- Country of manufacture. It's no secret that the most reliable dishwashers are made in Germany and Italy. This is why Bosch, Siemens, and Electrolux dishwashers are so popular among consumers. Dishwashers from Italy and Spain are also known for their reliability.
- Price. The most reliable dishwashers can, without exaggeration, be considered premium; these dishwashers are assembled exclusively from high-quality components. Following the dollar's surge in 2014-2015, prices for European appliances roughly doubled. Therefore, the most reliable dishwashers will cost at least $1,000. People are often unwilling to pay more, even when it comes to product quality. Manufacturers trying to keep prices in the mid-range cut corners on the quality of spare parts, which makes the reliability of such equipment questionable.
Please note! We're talking about the most reliable models. There are some decent mid-priced dishwashers that can last for decades, but that's a matter of luck, and they're hardly the most reliable.
- Availability of a protection system. Reliable dishwashers should have high-quality magnetic leak protection, such as Aqua Stop or Waterproof.
High-quality dishwashers from Germany
German appliances are the most popular on the Russian market; German quality is undeniable. What brands are dishwashers available on the Russian market?
- Bosch dishwashers are the best-selling brand, offering models in both the mid-range and high-end segments. When choosing a Bosch dishwasher, be careful, as there are machines manufactured in Poland, Italy, China, and other countries, but the most reliable ones are assembled only in Germany.
- The second most popular brand is Siemens, whose dishwashers also attract consumers with their price and design.

- The leader in household appliance sales in Europe is the large company AEG, which has gained popularity thanks to the quality and reliability of the equipment it produces. AEG dishwashers are available on the Russian market, but their price often puts off consumers. But the most reliable cars are worth paying a hefty price for.
- Another equally well-known German home appliance manufacturer is Mile. Most of the dishwashers sold by Mile are premium-class appliances, the quality of which is unquestionable, as they undergo numerous quality tests before hitting the market.
A British study of dishwasher users yielded some surprising results. The test showed that only 6% of German dishwasher users sought repairs, while Indesit dishwashers were more likely to break down, as evidenced by customer service calls.
It's no coincidence that 78% of Bosch, Siemens, and Miele dishwasher owners would recommend purchasing dishwashers from these brands. Heating elements are the most common malfunctions in these machines, and we discussed replacing them in the article. Replacing the heating element in a dishwasher.
Which dishwasher models from these brands can be considered reliable? We conducted a brief review and comparison of dishwashers based on their characteristics, and here are the results.
The Miele G 6410 SCi is a semi-integrated model with a standard width of 60 cm. This dishwasher is not only the most reliable but also the most energy-efficient. The control panel and dishwasher tub are made of stainless steel. A 14-place setting load uses approximately 7 liters of water. The 3-D spoon and fork tray is adjustable in width, height, and depth.

For a hefty price of $1,300, the manufacturer offers 9 standard wash modes and additional features:
- EcoFeedback – which means that the dishwasher automatically monitors energy and water consumption;
- FlexiTimer with eco-start allows the user to program the machine to start at a specific time, for example, when electricity rates are reduced;
- PerfectGlassCare – this function allows you to adjust the water hardness parameters if the factory settings are not suitable, and this can only be determined by testing the hardness of the water flowing from your tap using a special test strip;
- The SensorDry sensor drying system, combined with the turbo drying function, will ensure that your dishes are perfectly dried, regardless of the ambient temperature outside the dishwasher;
- AutoOpen – a function that automatically opens the door after washing, which ensures better drying of dishes.
The Waterproof leak-proof system and child lock provide protection for the dishwasher. The machine comes with a special test strip to determine water hardness. This model is not without its drawbacks: it lacks a compartment for using 3-in-1 tablets, which will greatly affect the consumer's choice, and there is no automatic detection of water hardness.
The AEG F 99970 VI dishwasher reviewed here is equipped with an inverter motor. A 15-person set of dishes can be washed in 225 minutes on the standard cycle, which is somewhat alarming, as many consumers aren't prepared to wait more than three hours for their dishes to be washed. However, in this case, you can choose a quick or automatic cycle, as there are six programs available.

The machine operates very quietly, with a stated noise level of 44 dB. This model can use both regular detergents and 3-in-1 tablets. Salt and rinse aid indicators make operation easy. The dishwasher uses condensation drying. If we compare it with the previous model, then in some characteristics the model is not inferior, and even wins, and the price is half as low, $650, which is good news.
The BOSCH SMS 53N18 is a stand-alone dishwasher. This German-made model has received numerous positive reviews from users. Simply select one of five wash programs to ensure the dishwasher will clean your dishes perfectly. While it won't remove years of carbon deposits from pans and baking sheets, and even that can only be washed by hand, a simple home test shows that it handles ordinary stains.

This Bosch machine is both leak-proof and child-proof. It uses no more than 10 liters of water per wash cycle, which is quite economical for a machine of this class. The average price for this model, according to the review, is $630.
The Siemens SN 66T096 is a built-in dishwasher equipped with the latest features. A water purity sensor reduces water consumption per wash cycle to 10 liters, which is very effective for a 13-placeholder load. The dishwasher operates quite quietly, with a noise level of 42 dB. A soft-opening door, interior lighting, an audible end-of-wash signal, and a tablet compartment make it ergonomic and stylish. The presence of positive reviews only confirms the reliability of this dishwasher, which was included in the review, the average price of which is $810.

Reliable dishwashers from other manufacturers
The Italian-made Electrolux ESL 6380 RO dishwasher has earned attention and is featured in our review. This dishwasher boasts excellent features, and users have given it positive reviews. It has a large 12-person load capacity. You can choose from six wash programs to clean everything from dishes to delicate glasses and pans, all while maintaining high-quality, quiet operation. For features and reliable build quality, expect to pay around $550.

The Smeg STA6539L3 is a premium-class dishwasher, also assembled in Italy, whose reliability has long been known in Europe. It only recently hit the Russian market, and now it's featured in our review of reliable machines. This dishwasher boasts impressive specifications, including a noise level of 39 dB, which is confirmed by a control test measuring the actual noise level using a device.
The Smeg STA6539L3 dishwasher is not only reliable but also economical. Thanks to built-in sensors that detect water purity and hardness, it automatically adjusts the washing time and amount of detergent, reducing water consumption to 9 liters and energy consumption to 0.81 kWh.

The cycle ends with the door opening automatically. Indicators will prompt you to add salt and rinse aid. All you have to do is load your dirty dishes and select one of 10 wash modes; the dishwasher, which will cost you around $900, will handle the rest.
So, choosing a reliable dishwasher is quite a challenge. Don't skimp on build quality; high-quality dishwashers from Europe are unlikely to cost less than $600, and this is largely due to the dollar. Of course, defective models do exist even among premium machines, but this is extremely rare, as service center technicians confirm. We hope our review will help you choose, if not a specific dishwasher model, then at least a brand.

The Germans are certainly good at it. But if you're lucky enough to get your hands on an Italian Hotpoint, you definitely won't regret it.
And the prices. We bought an Electrolux in 2013, and it worked for seven years. Then the heating element broke and the electronics started glitching. It cost $200, which I think is a lot for seven years of use. Repairs are expensive. We want to buy a new one for no more than $200.
