LG washing machine drum cleaning function
People often don't even realize the usefulness of their washing machine's features, using only two or three basic programs. But when it's time to clean the machine and the drum becomes coated with grime, LG washing machine users remember the "Drum Clean" feature. The question arises: how to activate this feature correctly and how does it work?
Description of this function
"Drum Clean" in LG machines is a program designed to remove sand, debris, limescale, and fabric fibers from the drum during washing. Essentially, the drum clean is similar to a dry run before the first wash. It works in stages:
- First, the pre-wash mode, the so-called pre-cleaning, is started.
- Then the main cleaning begins, during which the washing machine drum rotates at 50-150 rpm, and the water is heated to 60 degrees.
- After cleaning, there is a double rinse and spin at maximum speed.
The total execution time for this program is 1 hour 35 minutes.
This feature is very useful; you can run the machine once or twice a month to prevent clogging. However, we recommend clearing the drain filter of debris before cleaning.
Instructions for switching on
The "Drum Clean" program is quite easy to start. It was specifically programmed for this purpose, allowing you to activate it with the press of a single button. So, to clean the drum, you need to:
- check if there are any items, linen or foreign objects in the washing machine drum,
if there are any, take everything out; - close the drum door;
- turn on the washing machine and open the water supply tap;
- Press the Start button to turn on the machine;
- hold down the buttons marked "asterisk" for 3 seconds;
- press the "Start" button;
- wait until the end of the program, open the door to dry the drum.
Important! LG washing machines do not recommend using laundry detergent or descaling agents for cleaning. This may cause excessive foaming and freezing of the machine.
Machine models with "drum cleaning"
Not all LG washing machines have a "drum clean" feature. This feature doesn't affect the price of the machine. Here are some examples of budget washing machines with this feature:
- LG F1048ND is a narrow model with 9 built-in washing programs and 22 additional options, including automatic drum cleaning.
- The LG F1280ND5 is also a narrow washing machine with a choice of 14 programs and 22 additional functions. The machine has a stylish silver design.
- The LG F1280NDS is another narrow washing machine that, in addition to standard washing modes, has a steam wash option and a hypoallergenic wash option.

These Russian-assembled LG machines cost between $200 and $250.
Here are some examples of washing machine models in the mid-price range:
- The LG FH 2A8HDS4 is a slim, silver model with a capacity of up to 7 kg. It features a wide range of programs and an inverter motor. It costs around $350.
- The LG F-14U2TDH1N is a full-size washing machine with not only a drum cleaning function, but also a drying function for up to 5 kg. The drum holds up to 8 kg of dry laundry during washing. It's worth noting the presence of Smart diagnostics. Price per unit is $450.
So, the drum cleaning function allows you to remove soap scum, mold, and even some limescale from the drum walls. It's best to use this function a couple of times a month, and your LG washing machine's drum will sparkle clean. Now all you need to do is figure out how to activate it, and this article will help you with that. Good luck!

There's an error in the article. The LG washing machine manual mentions using a descaling agent.
Our LG says not to use.
Washing machine LG INVERTER DIRECT 8 KG F128, everything worked as described above!
And our instructions recommend using a descaling agent... it even says Calgon. Also LG.
It says that funds should not be used in this mode.
And I use citric acid.
Never use citric acid! The technician came and gave us a stern talking to.
Yeah, they're all spinning it because the acid costs $0.18. And Calgon costs a lot more.
And the master told me that I need to use citric acid.
When he was shaking his head, how did he explain it?
Unlike soda ash, citric acid has a very destructive effect on silumin, which is used to make many budget/near-budget parts.
Calgon is the same as soda ash.
I cleaned the drum. Afterward, I opened the door and saw that the drum had turned white! Why is this and how can I get it back to its former shine?
