Cleaning the drum in a Hisense washing machine
Modern Hisense automatic washing machines have a wide range of capabilities. Therefore, when purchasing a new washing machine, it's best to carefully examine its software. In addition to standard washing modes, there are also special washing algorithms. There are also useful additional options, one of which is "Drum Self-Cleaning."
Why run the drum clean feature in a washing machine? What does the washing machine do when this feature is activated? How long does the cycle last? Let's look into the details.
Features of the cleaning program
All users know that washing machines require maintenance: keeping the machine's body and interior clean, periodically cleaning the drain filter, wiping the door seal, etc. Dirty laundry is washed in a washing machine, so debris, hair, and threads are always left behind. Detergent particles also settle on the walls of the powder compartment and drum, and scale and limescale deposits can build up on some parts.
The self-cleaning mode helps to wash the machine from the inside, getting rid of debris, limescale, scale, and dirt deposits.
This option is available on almost all modern Hisense washing machines. When starting the self-cleaning mode, the washing machine drum must be empty, but detergent must be added. It is better to use special household chemicals for cleaning washing machines.
Self-cleaning takes approximately three hours. The cycle duration may vary slightly depending on the Hisense washing machine model, but on average it's 165 minutes. The cycle stages are:
- the pre-wash cycle starts, the machine stands for some time with a full tank of soap solution and “soaks”;
- the water is drained, after which the main wash begins, with water heating up to 90 degrees and drum rotation speed up to 150 revolutions per minute;
- A double rinse is performed – all dirt, plaque and debris are washed away from the “insides” of the machine and discharged into the sewer.
Hisense washing machine manufacturers recommend running a self-cleaning cycle every 3-4 weeks. This is sufficient to maintain the washing machine's performance. It's important to remember to rinse the machine's dust filter after this cycle. It collects some dirt, hair, and lint.
Let's start automatic cleaning
Activating the self-cleaning mode is very simple. The option is launched in the standard way – using the program selector. To clean your machine in automatic mode, follow these steps:
- check that the washing machine tank is empty;
- add detergent to the machine (some of it into the powder compartment for pre-wash, the rest into the tray for the main cycle);
- close the hatch door tightly;

- plug the washing machine into the power supply;
- press the washing machine network button;
- select the “Self-cleaning” option using the programmer;
- start the cycle with the "Start/Pause" button.
After this, you can leave your "home helper" and she'll get to work. It's best to check the machine periodically. The washing machine will beep when the cycle is complete.
Next, open the door and slightly open the detergent drawer. This is done to ventilate and dry your Hisense washing machine. It's important to clean the debris filter located in the lower corner of the machine.
If your machine model does not have a cleaning mode
Some Hisense models don't have a self-cleaning option. But that doesn't mean you can't clean the inside of the machine. You can select a suitable program, which will have the same cycle stages as the self-wash mode, from standard algorithms.
You can always replace the self-cleaning mode with the standard program available on all Hisense washing machines – “Cotton 90”.
The key is that the program you're running has the same steps. These include pre-wash, main wash, and double rinse. Therefore, the "Cotton 90" cycle is perfectly suitable. How to activate the self-wash cycle in this case:
- make sure there is no laundry in the drum;
- add detergent to both compartments of the powder dispenser (for pre-wash and main wash);

- turn on the washing machine;
- Use the program selector to select “Cotton”;
- use the “Temperature” button to increase the water heating temperature to 90°C;
- Use a special button to turn off the spin cycle – you won’t need it;
- connect the “Pre-wash” function to the cycle;
- Start the washing machine using the “Start” button.
The washing machine will run for the same amount of time as when the "Drum Self-Cleaning" option is enabled. The cycle stages, and therefore the cleaning effect, will be the same. It is recommended to use specialized household cleaning products to combat limescale and scale deposits. This will result in more noticeable results.
