Machine washing a swan down blanket

Machine washing a swan down blanketBedding made with faux swan down is durable, soft, practical, and easy to care for. Cleaning these duvets and pillows is easy, but a few important rules must be followed. Otherwise, the feathers will be damaged, deformed, and lose their original properties. You can machine wash, hand wash, or dry clean a swan down duvet. The first two options are more convenient and less expensive, so let's take a closer look at them.

Should you trust your blanket to the washing machine?

Washing down and feather duvets in a washing machine is simple, convenient, and completely safe. Many housewives mistakenly choose hand washing, fearing the mechanics of the machine. In fact, there's nothing to worry about with machine washing: you just need to set the right cycle, spin cycle, and temperature:

  • mode – “Down”, “Down blanket”, “Down jacket” or “Delicate wash”;
  • temperature – up to 30 degrees;select the Down Blanket mode
  • spin – up to 400 rpm.

Down duvets and pillows are washed on a delicate cycle at a temperature of up to 30 degrees.

It is important to choose your detergent carefully. It is not recommended to use regular powders, as aggressive and bleaching components can damage the down. It is better to add special gels for down products.

Traditional washing

You can take the traditional approach and hand-wash a down or feather duvet. The rules are the same: avoid high temperatures, spinning, harsh detergents, and vigorous rubbing. Powders, chlorine bleaches, and alkaline solutions are also prohibited, as they settle in the fibers, are not washed out, damage the fabric, discolor the fabric, and clump the filling.

If there are no strong stains on the bedspread, then proceed as follows:

  • fill the bath with cool water and add some salt;
  • soak the blanket for 30-40 minutes;
  • then squeeze it out carefully, without twisting, and dry.

You cannot wring out swan down blankets, as this will cause the product to irreversibly lose its original shape.

If there are stains or an unpleasant odor on the cover, change the water after soaking, lather up the gel, and wash the soiled areas. To remove stubborn dirt, lay the cover flat and scrub with a soapy sponge. The most difficult step is rinsing, which should be repeated at least three times.traditional washing of a swan's down blanket

Once the water runs completely clear, you can finish rinsing. Drain all the liquid from the bathtub, and leave the blanket in the bottom for another 30-40 minutes to allow the moisture to drain freely. Then, knead the blanket with your hands, gently squeeze it out, and set it out to dry.

Drying the product

Swan down and feathers dry quickly, but if dried improperly, the filling can become clumped, deformed, and lose its original properties. To prevent this, avoid using a clothesline and dry the blanket only horizontally. You can't dry a blanket on a line

You can lay the product on the grass, a table, or the floor. In any case, it is recommended to first cover the chosen surface with a dry terry towel, changing it when it gets wet.

A down blanket dries in 1.5-2 hours.

In the sun, a down blanket dries for about 1.5-2 hours. If it is not possible to take the blanket outside, then it is necessary to open the windows wide, providing free air conditioning. During drying, the filling is periodically fluffed and straightened, which will help speed up drying and prevent the down from clumping.
