How to wash a camel blanket in a washing machine
Housewives often face the question of how to wash certain household items. Caring for a camel blanket can undoubtedly be challenging. This household item is highly prized for its naturalness, lightweightness, hypoallergenicity, and softness. Therefore, it's crucial to wash a camel wool blanket correctly to preserve the quality of the material. Let's explore the best ways to clean the fabric so it lasts for years to come.
Machine wash your blanket correctly
The washing machine has long been an indispensable household assistant. Modern machines efficiently clean not only everyday clothes but also downy items, shoes, outerwear, soft toys, and more. But can you use a washing machine to clean a camel blanket? Why not, if the machine has a special mode that allows for the procedure.
Remember that the blanket will become much heavier after absorbing water, so avoid this washing option if your washing machine allows you to load less than 5.5 kg of dry laundry into the drum.
How to properly machine wash a camel blanket? Follow a few basic guidelines.
- It is best to run the "Wool" program, its parameters are specially selected for gentle cleaning of wool items. The delicate “Hand Wash” cycle is also suitable; it involves optimal heating of the water to a temperature of 30°C and spinning at low speeds.
- Pay special attention to the drum speed during the spin cycle. It shouldn't exceed 400 rpm, and it's best to turn this function off completely to avoid distorting the blanket.
- It is advisable to purchase a powder, rinse aid or gel specifically for cleaning woolen items.
By choosing the right washing program, you can easily wash a camel blanket in a washing machine, preserving its quality. By selecting a special cycle and turning off the spin cycle, you can safely clean the wool and save time by delegating the task to your "home helper."
An important rule for drying a blanket: it is better to avoid direct sunlight on camel wool and leave the product in a dark place until it is completely dry.
It is safer to wash it in the traditional way
Some housewives still prefer to wash woolen items the old-fashioned way, by hand. This method is quite labor-intensive, but it certainly won't ruin an expensive camel wool blanket. At first glance, hand washing large items doesn't seem like a difficult or challenging task. However, be prepared for the blanket to become very heavy after absorbing water. Furthermore, it won't be possible to wring or squeeze it thoroughly.
For washing you will need:
- a spacious basin or bath;
- Washing powder or gel for cleaning wool fibers. If you can't find a special product, use baby soap;
- table, useful for proper drying of the product.
Before washing, vacuum the blanket to remove any debris and large dust particles. The manual cleaning process is as follows:
- Fill a bathtub or basin with water (about a third of the volume), the temperature should not exceed 30 degrees. It is very important to follow the temperature recommendations, as hot water can easily deform the product.;
- add the required amount of washing powder to the water;
- immerse the product in the bath and leave it in water for one hour;
- very carefully wash away any dirt on the fabric;
- Run your fists over the blanket, trying not to crush or twist the wool fibers;
- It would be a good idea to stand on the blanket with your feet and stamp on it to ensure more effective washing.
After these steps, you can begin rinsing the camel blanket. Pour out the dirty water and fill it with clean water (no hotter than 30 degrees Celsius). Use your fists to rinse away the soapy solution from the surface, then drain and fill the blanket again. Repeat the rinsing process 3-4 times. You can add a softening conditioner to the water during the final rinse.
Using gentle pressure from your palms, wring out the blanket. Place a stool in the bathtub and rest the blanket on it to allow the water to drain well. Once the excess liquid has drained, spread the blanket out on the countertop and let it dry completely. It's important to allow all excess water to drain, otherwise, drying on the countertop may cause the blanket to become damp and develop an unpleasant odor.
