Error 5 in Haier washing machine
For a Haier washing machine to display the "ERR5" or simply "5" error, it's enough to forget to open the water supply. The washing machine also reacts in the same way to a temporary water outage throughout the house. Therefore, most homeowners don't worry about the warning on the display and don't bother troubleshooting. But sometimes the "5" error indicates problems that won't go away without inspection and repair. What are these problems, and how can they be resolved?
The flow filter is clogged
Error 5 most often indicates a clogged flow filter. This is a round plastic mesh that sits directly between the machine's inlet valve and the inlet hose. When filtering tap water, the mesh takes the full brunt of the impact, so scale, small debris, and other particles and inclusions found in the pipes settle in the small holes. Once dirt has clogged most of the part, the washing machine can't start the suction. The only way to fix this is to clean the plastic part.
Error "5" on Haier washing machines indicates problems with filling the tank with water.
Anyone can handle this task, as you won't need to disassemble the machine, repair complex mechanisms, or even dig out the user manual. Simply grab a pair of pliers and follow the simple steps.
- Turn off the machine from the power supply and turn off the water supply tap.

- Disconnect the inlet hose from the machine body using your hands or pliers. Be aware that water will always remain in the rubber seal; it's best to pour it into a suitable container or sink rather than onto the floor.
- Once you've accessed the filter, grip the plastic part with pliers and gently pull it toward you. It won't take much effort—the mesh will easily slide out of its housing.
- Rinse the removed mesh under a strong stream of water. For a thorough cleaning, soak the filter for 30-50 minutes in a citric acid solution (1 teaspoon of powder per cup of liquid). Avoid boiling water, as plastic can easily deform and deteriorate at high temperatures. To avoid buying a new part, use only warm water. Cold water is not recommended, as the citric acid dissolves poorly in it.
- Using pliers, return the mesh to its place until it stops.
- Screw on the inlet hose and open the water supply tap.
- Make sure that there is no water leakage at the joint.
At the end, be sure to check whether the problem has been resolved. To do this, connect the washing machine to the power outlet and run any cycle. If the error does not appear and water starts flowing into the drum, then the job was successful.
Let's check the filling valve
One of the causes of the "ERR5" error is a faulty electromagnetic inlet valve. It's located under the top cover of the machine and controls the water supply. If it malfunctions, the machine won't accept the system's command to start the cycle, and the wash cycle won't begin. To fix this, remove the "box" and check it for damage and functionality.
Finding the valve is easy. Simply remove the housing cover and, near the back wall near the inlet hose on one side and the pipes leading to the dispensary on the other, you'll see a black or white plastic "box." Then, follow these steps:
To avoid errors during reassembly, it is recommended to take a photo of all connectors and connections with a camera.
- Inspect the valve body for damage, chips, or burn marks. If no visual issues are found, inspect it.
- we disconnect the connected pipes by loosening the metal clamps with pliers;
- we release the connected wiring;
- We unscrew the bolts holding the part and take out the valve.
Now it's time to confirm the fault. The easiest way to diagnose it is to lift the appliance under a sink or basin, connect the inlet hose, and open the water supply valve. A functioning element should stop the flow. If a leak is noticeable, the valve will need to be replaced. There are other ways to diagnose the valve.
- Apply 220 volts to the valve coil. If the device operates and allows water to flow, everything is fine. However, be careful and cautious, as water and electricity should not come into contact.
- Connect the device to a multimeter. Set the tester to "Resistance" mode and connect the probes to the windings one by one, monitoring the readings. If the display shows 3 kOhm, the part is fully functional.
A faulty valve can't be repaired by yourself. The part is not repairable, so you'll have to replace the old "box" with a new one. To do this, purchase a suitable one from a specialist store and install it according to the previously described diagram, but in reverse order. Secure the valve with the retaining bolt, connect the wiring to the connectors, reinstall the hoses, and secure everything with clamps. Finally, replace the top cover of the washing machine and run a test wash.
Inspecting the wiring
If everything is OK with the flow filter and water inlet valve, then we next check the internal wiring. It is rare, but it happens that the wires between the control board, pressure switch and the existing system break, and the machine loses “connection” between the elements. As a rule, washing machines in private homes where wild rodents live are at risk.
If you are unable to determine the cause of the error yourself, you will need to call a service technician.

The instructions for checking are simple. Simply remove the top cover of the washing machine and visually inspect the condition of each wire. First, check the integrity of the insulation, and finally, check the quality of the contact connections. It's also recommended to clean the pressure switch tube.
Error code "5" on Haier washing machines indicates problems with the water intake. Therefore, we first check the hoses, valves, filters, and wiring.
