Error 5 in the Hotpoint Ariston dishwasher
Ariston dishwasher users sometimes encounter a frustrating error code 5. At first glance, this error seems simple, and in about a third of cases, it is. However, sometimes this seemingly familiar error can have a completely unexpected cause. Without further ado, let's explore this fascinating error code 5 in Ariston dishwashers.
Why does the number five pop up?
When the dishwasher displays code 5 and stops working, technicians recommend taking a closer look at the machine itself. Be sure to listen to see if the water is draining or not. Check the control panel to see if any indicator lights are on. In the classic case of error 5, in addition to the code that appears on the screen, the ON/OFF light starts flashing. What are the reasons for this behavior of the dishwasher, what malfunctions cause it?
- First, the most common cause is blockages. The debris filter, drain hose, or salt reservoir could be clogged.
- Secondly, error 5 can appear due to a broken pressure switch.
- Thirdly, in rarer cases, this error appears due to a communication failure between the machine's components and the control module.
In even rarer cases, such an error can be caused by an unsoldered track on the control board, but in that case, the machine would have started acting up immediately after purchase.
Now that we've identified the potential problems, let's begin checking your dishwasher. You might even be able to fix it yourself without calling a technician.
We clear blockages
Moving from simple to complex, let's start checking for blockages. Quite often, people violate instructions. use regular dishwasher saltThis isn't a good thing, as table salt quickly clogs the container, and water stops circulating in the dishwasher system. But we'll start our inspection not with the salt reservoir, but with the debris filter and drain hose—we need to be consistent.
- Open the dishwasher door completely.
- We roll out and put aside the lower basket.
- Using a cloth, remove water from the bottom of the washing chamber.
- If the sprinkler is in the way, then remove it too.
- We remove the debris filter together with the coarse mesh and wash it thoroughly with detergent.
- We check that there is no debris under the filter, and then put the filter elements back in place.
- We check the drain hose, having first unscrewed it from the siphon.
- We check the operation of the dishwasher.
If the dreaded error code persists, then a clogged waste filter or hose can be ruled out as the cause. Let's check the salt reservoir. Unscrew the reservoir cap and use a rubber bulb to pump out the water and salt solution. Add clean water and swirl it around to dissolve any remaining salt. Then, pump out the water again, add a little clean water, and add high-quality dishwasher salt. If the error returns after checking the dishwasher's operation, continue your investigation.
Checking the pressure switch
It's time to pay attention to the pressure switch on your Ariston dishwasher. In 90% of cases, it's working properly, but dirt or machine oil has gotten into the tube, preventing the appliance from functioning properly.
Our task is to check the tube and the pressure switch itself for blockages and breakdowns. We also shouldn't forget about the power supply wiring, as it can also be malfunctioning. How to check andReplacing the pressure switch in a dishwasher Ariston is described in the article of the same name, which was previously published on our website. We won't repeat ourselves, but rather move on.
We check the wiring from the control board
How can you fix and, more importantly, find the cause of error 5 if there are no blockages, the pressure switch is fully functional, and so is its power supply wiring? You need to use logic here, as there are no simple solutions left. Some people try to check the inlet valve, thinking it's the problem, but we recommend a visual inspection of the control board. Pay special attention to the contacts. If you see signs of oxidation, be sure to clean the contacts. If you discover any more significant defects, contact a professional.
Trying to repair the control module yourself isn't a good idea. You'll likely lose an expensive part, and a replacement can cost up to $180. You might as well buy a new machine. So, without hesitation, contact a service center and wait for the technicians to come and inspect your "home assistant."
So, what should you do if your Ariston dishwasher displays error 5? You need to start a step-by-step inspection of the machine for blockages and malfunctions. We've tried to briefly describe how to do this, and we hope you'll be successful. Happy repair!

Great article, thank you.
I read every article online about this error. And I solved the error 5 issue very easily! I poured a kettle of just-boiled water into the bottom of the machine and voila, everything works as before. So, before you take it apart, try…
Great. It helped. This option is simply irreplaceable for women.
Thank you, wizard. I thought I was in trouble. Nope. Got off lightly. I have an Ariston dishwasher, and I was thinking of replacing the aquastop, pressure switch, or circulation pump. A hot water kettle solved all the problems. Thanks again.
Thanks for the advice. It worked!
You're a genius 🙂 I was also struggling with this error 5 for several days and couldn't fix it. I read your comment, decided to give it a try, and miraculously, everything worked! Works perfectly! Thank you so much for the helpful advice!
What's the trick to adding boiling water when fixing error 5?
Hello. Could you please help? My LSF857 washer is showing error A5. It fills with water, displays A5, starts draining, and the pump runs until I turn it off. The pressure switch clicks and rings. I've completely disassembled the washer and cleaned everything I could. I re-soldered all the contacts on the board and cleaned all the connectors. After reassembling, I washed it twice without any errors, but then the error message appeared again. Sometimes, after a few restarts, it starts working again. What else could be the problem?
Hello, Alexey. I have the exact same problem as you. Let me know if you figured it out.
I have the same thing 🙁 What should I do about it?
I'm not sure, but maybe this article will help: https://guide.washerhouse.com/en/oshibka-5-v-posudomoechnoj-mashine-xotpoint-ariston/
I was having the same problem today. While removing the lower hatch, I disconnected the wires from a switch with some kind of float, but I still don't understand what it does. But after turning it on with the wires from this switch open, the car started draining everything. Once I shorted the wires together, the car started working normally.
I noticed that error 5 appeared when using fine salt. I won't say the manufacturer, but when the technician arrived, he pronounced the verdict: buy a new one! There was nothing to be done, so we tried to fix it ourselves. We ended up sucking out the salt with an aquarium hose with a bulb nozzle, adding water until it was all gone. We restarted the machine, and it worked. I spent a week in agony, imagining myself standing by the sink on New Year's. Try our solution and use coarse salt. Good luck to everyone! Happy New Year!
I replaced the heating element because its hose, which is soldered into the housing, had broken. I turn on the machine. It fills and drains water. Error 5. It turned out to be simple. The drain hose was lower than the machine's housing, and the water was draining from the heating element's housing. Therefore, it had nothing to heat. I noticed this by accident. I filled the kettle with hot water. And all the water drained right away. It's that simple. And I wanted to remove the heating element again, ring it, etc.
The boiling water trick really works! It was a miracle.
The hot water advice works. Error 5 appeared after a long period of non-use. The filters were clean. Apparently, the hot water dissolved the blockage somewhere inside, and the machine started working again.
Well, the kettle is certainly good, but it didn't help me—the blockage was downstream. The drain is attached to the small sink's trap, and after plunging it with hot water, the problem disappeared. However, I need to add some chemicals to prevent the problem from recurring. 🙂
