Error A5 on an Indesit dishwasher
If your Indesit dishwasher displays error code A5, please be patient. This code indicates a faulty circulation pump or pressure switch. A damaged main control module may also be the cause. We'll explain how to begin troubleshooting and how to fix the problem.
Checking the pressure switch
Modern Indesit dishwashers automatically notify users of system problems. Each error code displayed on the display corresponds to a specific malfunction. A5 informs about malfunctions in the circulation pump or water level sensor. It’s easier to check the pressure switch – this is where the diagnostics begin.
To access the pressure switch, you will need to remove the Indesit dishwasher tray.
The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- unplug the dishwasher;
- close the shut-off valve;
- disconnect the machine from the water supply and sewerage system;
- open the dishwasher door and remove the dish baskets;

- remove the debris filter and wipe all the water from the hole with a dry cloth;

- lay the dishwasher on its back;
- Having dealt with the clamps, remove the dishwasher tray;
- disconnect the float sensor wiring and the bolt securing the element;
- find the pressure switch - it is a small plastic box with a tube connected to it;

- Use pliers to disconnect the pressure switch pipe.
First, diagnose the mechanical part of the pressure switch. To do this, blow into the sensor nozzle and listen. If you hear clicking sounds, the switch is working and the device itself is working properly.
The level sensor's electronics are tested with a multimeter. The tester's probes should be placed against the pressure switch contacts. Next, check the readings on the ohmmeter screen – if they approach zero, the device is working properly.
Also check the pressure sensing tube for blockages. Cleaning it can sometimes restore the pressure switch's functionality. If a problem is identified, replace the water level sensor.
Installing the pressure switch is done in reverse order. Once assembly is complete, run a test cycle and observe the Indesit dishwasher. If the dishwasher fills with water normally and no longer displays the A5 error, the repair is complete.
Testing the circulation pump
The recirculation pump acts as the dishwasher's motor. It forces water into the drum through the heating element and impellers. If it malfunctions, the Indesit dishwasher will not start and display the A5 error code.
You'll need to check the circulation pump for functionality. To do this:
- de-energize the dishwasher;
- disconnect the machine from communications;
- remove the dish baskets and waste filter from the bin;
- lay the machine on its side, remove the tray;
- disconnect the float sensor connectors;

- find the pump and deal with the clamps that secure it;
- Remove the circulation pump from the dishwasher.
To diagnose the element, you'll need a multimeter. Here's what to do:
- switch the tester to resistance measurement mode;
- Install terminals at the ends of the wires and check the resistance produced by the pump winding (it should exceed 100 Ohms).
The mechanical part is also checked. Insert a screwdriver into the opening of the circulation pump axle and check to see if the motor is seizing. It should rotate freely.
If the cyclic pump burns out, the only way to reset the error is to replace the element. In this case, the unit cannot be repaired. If the problem is due to worn bushings or the impeller, these parts can be replaced individually.
The electronics need to be checked
The worst-case scenario is when the A5 error is caused by a faulty control module. The electronic control unit controls all components of the Indesit dishwasher and is responsible for transmitting commands to the appliance's components. Therefore, a faulty board can cause any code on the display.
It's practically impossible to repair an electronic module yourself without the knowledge and experience; you'll have to contact a professional.
What should I do to check the control module? First, I need to inspect the part. To do this:
- Unplug the Indesit dishwasher;
- open the dishwasher door;
- unscrew the screws on the door;
- remove the top of the door;
- Find the control board.
Next, inspect the block. The control module may have traces of carbon deposits, rust, swollen areas, or oxidized contacts. These defects are visible to the naked eye.
Problems with the electronic unit can't always be identified by eye. More in-depth diagnostics are often required, with each semiconductor tested with a multimeter. It's recommended to entrust this work to a technician. The specialist will identify the problem and, if possible, repair the control board. If the part cannot be repaired, a new module is installed.
