Error E03 in a Hansa washing machine

Error E03 in a Hansa washing machineBasic Hansa washing machine models feature a fairly straightforward and transparent self-diagnostic system, so understanding it isn't particularly difficult. The key is to approach the process carefully and avoid accidentally confusing error codes. For example, error E03 in a Hansa washing machine indicates either insufficient maintenance or a serious malfunction. How can you figure out what's going on?

What is this code about?

Literally every washing machine function has its own error code, which identifies a problem with that function. Regarding the aforementioned E03 error, it indicates a drainage problem. There are two possible scenarios:

  • the drain pump itself was damaged, and water actually remained in the machine after washing;
  • The water level sensor failed, meaning that the water actually left the tank, but the washing machine didn't notice because the sensor didn't send a signal.

In the latter case, the machine simply freezes, as the wash cycle officially ends only when the drum is empty. Due to a faulty pressure switch, this is impossible, so the display shows the coveted combination of letters and numbers.

Sometimes, the drain hose or other components of the drainage system simply become clogged, preventing water from flowing through. In this case, simply cleaning them will resolve the issue.

Do we check everything in order of priority?

Since a clog is the easiest cause to fix, we should start there. First, inspect the drain filter. It's located at the bottom of the machine, in a special compartment covered by a small door. Open it, and you'll see a small round cover. Turn it counterclockwise and pull it out gently. This is the filter, and you've just removed it!

Caution: Water will inevitably spill out when removing the filter, so place something like a towel or large napkin underneath it beforehand.

It's difficult to tell by eye whether a filter is clogged. Therefore, rinse it with tap water and check how dirty it is. If the water is relatively clear, then the filter is also clean.removing blockage from the washing machine filter

Next up is the drain hose, which can also become clogged with debris. This component connects the washing machine to the sewer line. To clean it:

  • loosen the clamp that secures the hose to the sewer;
  • Prepare a large container (a basin or a bucket) into which the waste water will be drained.

Immediately after this, transfer the hose to a bucket and drain the remaining water. Now remove the drain filter if you haven't already. Disconnect the pump from the housing by unscrewing the screw holding it in place. Turn the machine on its side so you can reach the bottom, and begin inspecting it.

  • remove the drain pump from the bottom;
  • loosen the hose;
  • remove it and rinse it thoroughly under running water.

After completing these steps, you can reinstall the washing machine and check to see if your efforts were in vain. What should you do if they were?Let's check the pressure switch for Hans

In any case, the worst is over. Even if the annoying error persists after turning on the test mode and the washing program still doesn't start, don't despair. Try checking the pressure switch. It's much easier to access—just unscrew two screws on the top cover and remove it. On the side, you'll see a round object with a hose and wires running down—this is the water control sensor.

As a rule, the wiring, hoses, and other components of the pressure switch can fail. Therefore, don't rush to replace the component itself. If, after diagnostics, you find no visible problems, the problem is most likely in the electronic module. Repairing the E03 yourself is very difficult in this case, but with time and determination, it's certainly possible. However, in some cases, with careful and responsible handling, even users without any special skills can fix the E03 error themselves, so don't panic!
