Error E1 in Haier washing machine
Washing machine users often don't think about the meaning of a particular error code until they encounter it directly. For example, if a Haier washing machine refuses to wash and displays the E1 code, the problem lies in the door or the locking mechanism. Sometimes, pressing the door with your knee is enough to solve the problem, but sometimes this is clearly not enough. What should you do if you encounter difficulties?
We are looking for mechanical damage
There are countless reasons why a sunroof won't close or lock, ranging from simple negligence on the part of the owner (hanging heavy, wet items on the door, damaging the hinges) to a manufacturing defect. However, there are also far more mundane and pressing scenarios. Most often, the error code is displayed for the following reasons:
- after long-term regular use the door became warped;
- the locking tongue in the UBL, which is designed to secure the closed door, has shifted;
- any of the components of the door mechanism has worn out.
Identifying this type of malfunction is very easy. Simply test the machine outside of normal operation. If the hatch really does not close or does not lock in the closed position, then the problem is most likely either in the skewed fasteners or in the breakdown of the locking device. Sometimes this outcome is the result of improper installation, when the hinges fail due to imbalances in weight, load, and vibration. However, in most cases, the cause lies in improper use of the unit. Well, something still needs to be done.
- Inspect the drum and the machine body in the hatch area; foreign objects may be preventing the lock from closing.
- Check that the locking mechanism fits into the intended niche and that the locking element is not loose.
- Feel and assess the condition of the cuff and plastic covering. Any parts may have peeled or stretched.
The UBL also contains a plastic guide. Due to the low wear resistance of the material, it often becomes deformed during heavy use. A broken guide makes closing the hatch mechanically impossible, as it prevents the door from closing.
The problem is in the door lock or electronics
If the door closes without problems, but does not lock, and the machine stubbornly refuses to start working, and the display shows error E1, then the problem lies within the door locking device itself.
To start washing, the door locking system signals the machine that the door is sealed and there's no risk of flooding. Consequently, if the system malfunctions, it either doesn't lock the door at all or simply doesn't recognize that everything is locked and it's time to start washing. The lack of blocking is due to wear of the bimetallic plates. They are constantly exposed to current, which causes them to wear out, become deformed, etc. Since these elements are responsible for locking the hatch, they must be replaced immediately if necessary, otherwise repairs cannot be completed.
Please note! Sometimes small debris (lint, pieces of foreign objects, etc.) gets into the device. These can accumulate inside the component for a long time, or they can cause it to malfunction immediately. In any case, the component must be removed and cleaned.
Now let's look at cases where the problem lies in the washing machine's "brains," specifically, the electronic module. Usually, it's predictable: either the wiring has burned out or there's a software glitch. Diagnosing a problem with the control module is quite difficult; you'll need to run a multimeter through it and inspect the board for any scorch marks. Depending on the results, you'll either need to reflash the module, repair it, or replace it with a new one.
Without specialized skills and experience, don't even attempt DIY repairs to electronics. This type of work requires specialized expertise. If the problem is purely mechanical, you can try to fix it yourself to save time and money. However, remember that if you seriously damage the device with your actions, you will have to pay much more money than if you immediately call a technician for diagnostics and possible repairs.

It's possible that a hair tie or a cord from a child's clothing has gotten caught in the drain pump. This could also cause the E1 error to appear.
