Error E10 in a Zanussi washing machine
Error E10 may appear on your washing machine's display at any stage of the wash cycle. After diagnosing the problem, the system immediately disables your Zanussi washing machine. We'll explain what this error code means and how to restore your machine's functionality below.
What caused this code?
The decoding of codes provided in the equipment instructions will help you understand the causes of the malfunction. The manufacturer interprets the error E10 as "no or insufficient water volume in the tank." Without the required amount of liquid, the system cannot start or continue washing. Various sensors detect a discrepancy between the water volume in the drum and the required level. The E10 error in Zanussi washing machines can be triggered by:
- lack of water in the house's utility networks;
- failure of the inlet hose;
- clogging of inlet filters;
- breakdown of the inlet valve;
- malfunction in the washing machine electronics;
- self-draining of water from the system.
Self-draining means spontaneous leakage of liquid from the tank.
Although the smart device's memory stores various error codes that can indicate a specific problem, some Zanussi washing machine models simply use the generic E10 code. To troubleshoot the problem and repair the washing machine, you'll need to rule out possible causes one by one.
You can repair the unit yourself, as fixing the error is usually quite simple. However, if the problem is more serious—for example, the electronics have failed or a leak has occurred due to a cracked tank—it's best to contact a service center.
We remove the code ourselves
What should you do first? It's important to identify the underlying causes of insufficient water in the drum for washing. If your Zanussi washing machine displays a code a few minutes after starting a program, there's likely a water shortage. It's possible that the water supply has been shut off by utilities. The E10 error can also occur due to low water pressure in the water supply system. You can eliminate this by opening the cold water tap and ensuring that the water flow is sufficient.
Next, inspect the inlet hose for cracks. If the hose's surface is intact, unscrew it from the washing machine and check for any blockages. Often, a filter element is installed at the inlet of the inlet hose to prevent various impurities from entering the system. Over time, the filter becomes clogged and can no longer provide normal flow. Cleaning the filter element or replacing it with a new one can help resolve the E10 code.
A shut-off valve is installed where the inlet hose connects to the water supply. Make sure it's open and doesn't obstruct the water flow.
Failure to drain wastewater from the tank can also cause the E10 error to appear on the display. It's easy to check whether the drain is working properly: simply disconnect the drain hose from the drain pipe and insert the end into a bathtub, sink, or toilet. This will show you whether the system is draining the wastewater or if something is slowing it down.
Check that the drain hose is positioned correctly; the middle part of the sleeve should extend 55-60 cm from the floor level, forming a “knee”.
If these steps fail to resolve the error, the inlet valve or pressure switch is likely faulty. Repairing this yourself will be quite difficult. It's best to call an experienced washing machine technician to diagnose and repair the problem, who will quickly resolve the issue.
We will check and replace the fill valve.
The error code may be displayed on the digital screen due to a failure of the element responsible for collecting water from the centralized supply system. If the inlet valve breaks, the washing machine will simply stop filling the tank with water and display an error message. E10. The algorithm of actions for diagnosing the valve will be as follows:
- remove the top cover of the Zanussi washing machine;
- Remove the inlet valve from the washing machine, attach the inlet hose to it, and open the water shutoff valve. No leaks should be observed during this procedure.
- Apply 220 volts to each section of the element separately. The valve section receiving the current will be the one that will operate. Water should flow from the corresponding tube.
If any of the fill valve coils fail to operate during testing, the element must be replaced.
A multimeter can be used to test the fill valve. The tester's probes are placed against the coils to measure their resistance. If the device displays a value of 2-4 kOhm, the coil is fully functional.
Theoretically, the inlet valve cannot be repaired. Experts, if they discover a fault, recommend replacing the part entirely rather than repairing it. Moreover, the part is relatively inexpensive. However, if you're more eager to save money and have a similar valve from another washing machine, you can try replacing the faulty coil by removing it from another component. Be prepared for the possibility that your efforts may be in vain; the valve may not be repaired, and ultimately, you'll have to go to the store.
So, after purchasing a new inlet valve for your Zanussi washing machine, you need to install it in place of the faulty one and make all the connections. The procedure for replacing the element is as follows:
- de-energize the equipment by unplugging the power cord from the outlet;
- remove the top cover of the housing by unscrewing the mounting bolts;
- Disconnect the supply wiring and hoses from the inlet valve. The pipes are usually secured to the sensor with clamps, which can be reused. Sometimes the clamps are designed for single use, so you'll need to purchase new clamps in advance.
Carefully remember the wiring and hose connection diagram; even better, take a photo of the picture.
- Remove the valve from the washing machine body. Depending on the mounting method, simply unscrew the bolts holding it in place or bend back the latches;
- install the new fill valve in place and secure it in the housing;
- Using the photo as a guide, connect the wires and hoses.
After that, all that's left to do is replace the top cover of the machine. Now you can test your Zanussi washing machine. Plug it in and run a wash cycle. If the inlet valve is indeed faulty, the E10 error should clear.
