Electrolux Washing Machine Error Code E20

Electrolux washing machine error E20One of the most common errors encountered when using an Electrolux washing machine is the E20 error. It's related to the wastewater drainage system. Let's look at why this error might occur and how to troubleshoot it.

What are the reasons for the error?

Error E20, which appears on the display of modern Electrolux washing machines, is also accompanied by a characteristic sound signal that is emitted twice. This error alerts the user that there is a problem with the drainage system. This means that the machine either does not drain the water at all and does not spin the laundry, or the water drains, but the program “freezes” because the electronic module does not receive a signal about the empty tank.

Please note: In some washing machine models, this error is indicated by the code E21 or C2.

The following may be malfunctions of the drainage system:

  • clogged drain hose or branch pipe;
  • clogged or broken drain pump;
  • malfunction of the level sensor or its wires;
  • breakdown of the electronic module (in very rare cases).

Troubleshooting

To resolve the E20 error, first disconnect the power to the machine. Now you can drain the water from the tank through the drain hose, unscrewing it from the drain outlet. Please note that if the water flows out easily, then either the sewer is clogged and the siphon will need to be cleaned, or there is a blockage in the pump. After draining the water from the machine, remove the laundry from the drum and then troubleshoot and fix the problem.

After checking the drain and ensuring there's no blockage, proceed to inspecting the drain pump and filter. Unscrew and remove the filter, then inspect and rinse it under running water. As for the pump, it can only be accessed through the rear panel of Electrolux machines. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. we unscrew the screws on the back cover that hold it in place;
  2. remove the unscrewed lid;
  3. we disconnect the electrical wires from the pump going to the pressure switch;
  4. unscrew the bolt from the bottom of the car that holds the pump;

  5. loosen the clamps on the drain hose and pipe;
  6. we take out the pump.

To clean the pump, you need to unscrew the cover and check the impeller. There may be hair, wool, or threads on it. Clean any debris and dry it carefully. You should also check the pump with a multimeter. To do this, attach the probes to the pump and check the winding resistance; it should be 200 ohms. If not, replace the drain pump with a new one.

When you disassemble the machine for the first time, take photos that will help you reassemble the machine correctly, without mixing anything up.

If the E20 error was caused by the pump, then after reinstalling it, run the machine in test mode and observe how it operates. If the pump is working properly, then proceed to checking the performance of the pressure switch and the wiring connecting the water level sensor to the pump and to the electronic board. Most often, the problem occurs with the wiring contacts, and not with the pressure switch itself. After all, when it malfunctions, codes E11, E32 usually appear on the display.

If the inspection of the pressure switch and wiring did not yield any results, and the E20 error still occurs, then it remains to be checked electronic moduleThis is a rather painstaking and serious job, which even experts are reluctant to undertake. Typically, the boards are not repaired, but replaced with new ones, which can be quite expensive. However, don't worry, this kind of error is extremely rare.

To summarize, when identifying the cause of the E20 error in your Electrolux washing machine, take your time. Begin the inspection step by step, from the simplest to the most complex. Don't disassemble the machine if you know you haven't cleaned the drain filter in two years; check it first, as that may be the cause. Furthermore, regular maintenance of your "home helper," using only automatic detergent, softening the water, and washing items in a laundry bag will help prevent clogged drains. Happy repairs!

    Thank you! Everything worked! The machine started working! Hooray!!! They found metal parts in the pump and filter. We didn't have to call a repairman.

    Could the electronics be malfunctioning? Everything was clean afterwards.

      I got a baby's handkerchief stuck in there. How did it get there? Carefully pull the lid out, it should come out.

      You'll have to disassemble the washing machine, remove the "snail" along with the pump, and unscrew the pump from it. Then, squeeze out the filter from the back. Most likely, you'll need a toothpick or a bra underwire.

    It gives an E20 error. Then we set it to drain, and it drains. Then we set it to spin, and it spins. This happens every time. Can you identify the problem right away?

    The same error occurred. Children's socks, caught in the heating element, sabotaged the process.
