Bosch dishwasher error E22
Bosch dishwashers are quite reliable and rarely break down, especially if they're European-made. However, sometimes they do: the appliance stops working, and a system error code appears on the display. The problem is that the dishwasher's control unit stores a number of error codes, and the first thing the user needs to do is decipher the code that appears before taking action. For the purposes of this article, we'll focus on error code E22, which we'll discuss in more detail.
Circumstances of occurrence of the system error
In most cases, the E22 error code appears on Bosch dishwashers just before the end of the wash cycle. With just 5-7 minutes remaining, the machine first pauses the program or cycle, then freezes and displays the E22 error code. Sometimes after turning off the dishwasher brand Bosch and turning it on again, it is possible to resume its normal operation, but after 2-3 programs it freezes again and the error pops up on the display again. Sometimes it's different.
- System error e22 on a Bosch dishwasher appears at the beginning of the program or in the middle.
- Then the user, trying to solve the problem on his own, turns off the dishwasher, waits for a while, then turns it on and starts the washing program again.
- The machine starts washing dishes, but after 10-15 minutes it freezes and displays another system error e24.
- In the future, if you restart the Bosch dishwasher multiple times, these two system errors may appear alternately or only the E22 error.
Important! Avoid suddenly turning off your Bosch dishwasher repeatedly, as this could damage the control unit, leading to costly repairs.
Decoding the error and possible reasons for its occurrence
According to the data recorded in the instructions for several dozen models of Bosch dishwashers, Error E22 stands for "filters are clogged or contaminated."This means that food residue washed off the dishes has clogged the filter mesh at the bottom of the dishwasher or gotten into the waste filter, preventing proper drainage. This is usually where the devil is (as they say, the devil is in the details). The user reads the instructions, removes the dish racks, checks the mesh—it's clean, and unscrews the filter—there's no sign of any dirt there either.
The user is left wondering how the error can be explained as clogged filters, even though the filters are clean. What's going on? In about half of the cases, getting to the root of the E22 error requires digging deeper into the Bosch dishwasher, as dirt has accumulated deep within the appliance. We'll cover troubleshooting steps in more detail later.
If error e22 alternates with error e24, the cause may be more complex. In about 20% of cases, technicians report that the E22 error alternates with the E24 error when the drain hose becomes clogged, but more often, this cascade of errors is caused by a pump issue. The pump in Bosch dishwashers is much weaker than in washing machines; however, it can still perform such a trick that you'll spend a long time trying to figure out what's wrong with your "home helper."
Errors E22 and E24, which paralyze the operation of a Bosch dishwasher, can be caused by a thread or a piece of green onion caught between the impeller and the pump bushing. The cause is trivial, and the problem can be fixed in ten minutes, if you know how.
Please note: If errors E22 and E24 appear alternately when resetting your Bosch dishwasher, the problem may be that the drain pump impeller is not rotating.
We eliminate the causes of the error
Apparently, there are quite a few reasons why the E22 error occurs in a Bosch dishwasher, and without delving into the machine's internals, it's impossible to pinpoint the cause. Let's stop beating around the bush and begin step-by-step checking the dishwasher components that could potentially trigger this system error.
- First, disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply and turn off the water supply tap.
- We open the door and take out the dish baskets and cutlery trays.
- We take out the plastic sprinkler from the bottom of the bunker.
- We unscrew the debris filter and clean it.
- We remove the filter mesh and clean it.
- We unscrew the mounting bolts and pull out the pipe; we also need to check it for blockages.
- We turn the dishwasher upside down, unscrew the plastic tray holders and begin to pull the tray with the units upward.
- In the center of the tray is a large plastic unit with outlets for the pipes. It contains a heating element, which would be a good idea to check at the same time. You can read about how to do this in the article. replacing the dishwasher heating element.
- There is a pump installed on the side of the heating block; it needs to be unscrewed, after removing the wires.
- Check the impeller for proper rotation and for any foreign objects. If the impeller is difficult to rotate, remove the rotor from the hub and inspect it.

- We install the pump in place, after which we check the drain hose for blockages.
- After this, the dishwasher can be reassembled; if you clean all the above-mentioned elements, the E22 error will disappear.
To summarize, as you can see, fixing the cause of the E22 error isn't all that difficult; identifying it correctly is much more challenging. But don't worry; even in the worst-case scenario, you can fix the problem yourself in no more than 30 minutes. Just read this article carefully and follow the expert advice. And, of course, don't neglect to read the instructions.

Thanks for the article! What should I do if my dishwasher is built-in?
I have an embedded machine and it gives the same error, what should I do about it?
It doesn't matter whether it's embedded or not. The algorithm is the same everywhere.
Thanks for the tip
Thank you!!!
Thanks for the advice :) I didn't have to turn it over. I just cleaned the filter.
