Bosch dishwasher error E24

Bosch dishwasher error code E24Housewives are overjoyed with their dishwashers, as they now have more free time for themselves. However, when an error message appears on the display, such as E24, and the machine stops washing, panic sets in: what to do? But don't panic; it's better to focus your energy and knowledge on troubleshooting, and we'll do our best to help.

Error decoding

The explanation for all Bosch dishwasher errors is always included in the manual. However, the explanation alone may not be enough; you need to know how to fix it yourself. Or perhaps the machine is so faulty that only a technician can help. This is precisely the case with the E24 error.

Error code E24 means that there is a problem with the water drainage; the manufacturer indicates that the cause is a kinked or clogged drain hose. It would seem so simple: straighten the hose, clean it, and that's it. But that's not the case. Dishwasher users who encounter the E24 error claim that clogs have nothing to do with it.

They're probably right, because just think about how much of a kinked hose you can expect if the machine is installed correctly and you don't touch the hose. Secondly, the E24 error most often appears at the very beginning of the cycle, approximately 1.5-2 minutes after turning it on, when the dishwasher hasn't even had time to fill with water, let alone begin draining. Therefore, it's very strange that the instructions state that the E24 error indicates a faulty drain.

If we think logically, then in our opinion, in the case of the occurrence of error E24, the following reasons suggest themselves:

  • one of the sensors is faulty, we need to figure out which one;
  • drain pump malfunction;
  • An error occurred in the software of the control unit.

There are cases when error E 24 alternates with error E 22, how to fix it is described in the article Error E22 on a Bosch dishwasher.

Basic methods of elimination

Since the manufacturer identifies the E24 error as a problem with the water drainage, let's first figure out how to clear blockages in the drainage system.

We think you won't have any problems cleaning the drain filter, as it should be done regularly. The filter is located at the bottom of the dishwasher and is fairly easy to remove. Use a wire brush to clean the drain hose. You can also remove the plastic plug underneath the filter to access the drain pump gear. Inspect and remove any debris. Very often, seeds from fruits, such as lemon or orange, get clogged under the filter, which is what causes the error. E24.

Important! There may be a blockage in the connection between the dishwasher drain hose and the sewer outlet. This connection also needs to be cleared.

Let's inspect the pump

The pump itself can become clogged, causing it to stop draining and the E24 error to appear. To access the pump in a Bosch dishwasher, follow these steps:

  1. turn the car upside down;
  2. unscrew the back cover and side panels (if the machine is not built-in);
  3. unscrew the lower front bar, and under it another bar that holds the bottom of the case;
  4. remove the plastic holders on the sides of the machine;
  5. remove the bottom, after which access to the “insides” of the machine will open;
  6. The large plastic housing with outlets for the pipes is a flow-through heating element; there is a pump on the side of it. You need to turn the pump half a turn clockwise and pull it to the side;

    Don't forget to disconnect the wires and sensors from it first.

  7. Now inspect the impeller, there may be hair and threads wound around it, they need to be removed, it is best to pull out the shaft itself for this;

  8. After the entire procedure, reassemble the machine in reverse order and run the wash to check for the occurrence of error E 24.

Advice from forum members

All of the above troubleshooting methods for the E24 error may not help. After reviewing numerous forums on this topic, we decided to offer a few more troubleshooting tips. For some, the E24 error code in a Bosch dishwasher doesn't cause any problems, and blowing out the drain hose with a wet/dry vacuum cleaner resolves the issue.

One user, after a long struggle with a malfunction, found the cause in the drain pump. It turned out that when it was turned on, the impeller refused to rotate, resulting in no water being pumped. The problem was that the rotor was completely stuck to the bushing walls or rotated but with difficulty. To solve this problem, you need to clean the bushing walls, the rotor itself, and lubricate the inside of the bushing.

pump in a dishwasher

Some users report that the E24 error code in a Bosch dishwasher can be cleared by simply turning the machine on and off. However, we do not recommend this method for clearing the error code, nor will we describe it. We'll explain why: Resetting the E24 error will not eliminate the cause itself, but may only force the dishwasher to operate at maximum power, which will ultimately lead to even greater problems..

Error E24, which appears almost immediately after turning on the washing machine, can be resolved by opening the door. Here's what users suggest:

  • turn on the dishwasher;
  • wait about a minute while the pump is running;
  • we wait for a click and a noise reminiscent of water filling;
  • after about 30 seconds, open the dishwasher door;

    It is important to open the door at the right time.

  • We close the door and wait for the machine to finish the wash cycle.

dishwasher door magnet

According to users, the machine works fine, but constantly starting it this way is annoying. After such a diagnosis of error E 24, some solved the problem by replacing the magnet in the door sensor, which controls whether the door is closed or not.This may be true, although to be honest, I doubt it, since error E24 should be related to the drain, not the door.

But we did find a practical way to fix the E24 code in Bosch cars on forums. It's as follows:

  • it is necessary to open the right cover of the housing and remove the seal;
  • under the seal, you will see a plastic container with tubes at the bottom, as shown in the photo; these are where the blockage may be;
    clogged dishwasher
  • If the hoses are easily disconnected (this depends on the Bosch dishwasher model), then remove them and clean them with a wet vacuum cleaner, while simultaneously pouring water into the drain hose.

We hope this photo will at least help you understand where to look for the cause of the malfunction causing the E24 error. If none of these methods help, you'll need to find a highly qualified technician who can help you find the cause and fix the error. Incidentally, only a technician can check the controller's functionality; it might be the cause, as it's not recognizing the signals correctly.

In conclusion, it's worth noting that troubleshooting a Bosch dishwasher error on your own can be challenging. It's best to be patient and familiarize yourself with the dishwasher's internals. By disassembling it, you'll have a better chance of finding the cause of the E24 error. Good luck with your repair!

    I got this E24, it's been yelling all night like "I broke - fix me" until I solve the problem, we'll keep an eye on it.

    Damn, it's incredible, but the 30-second method worked! I'm so fed up with this Bosch... I didn't expect this from them!

      I've been using this method (30 sec.) for two years now! I'm fed up!!!

  3. Gravatar Yuri Yuri:

    The error made me nervous. I started with the stove... I flushed and cleaned all the pipes and outlets leading to the drain, including the inlet filters and sump. I added dishwasher cleaner. And lo and behold! Everything worked as before. You can't fool a Bosch; you need to clean it more often.

    Guys, it's simple. Buy some clog-busting solution and pour it into the machine. Then rinse it 3-4 times and the error will be gone.

  5. Gravatar Dmitry Dmitry:

    A regular plunger has helped so far. I've pulled a couple of peppercorns out of the filter. Next, I'm thinking of using a drain cleaner.

    Guys, you won't believe it. The machine worked for three years after installation. Today it gave me a 24-point error. I moved it away from the wall, and to my surprise, how did it even drain? The hose was severely kinked. We tried our best to push it as close to the wall as possible!

  7. Gravatar Ivan Ivan:

    I cleaned and washed the filter inside and everything worked perfectly 🙂

  8. Gravatar Master Master:

    And nothing about the fairly common cause of this error. The brain isn't receiving the "tank empty" signal. Where does it come from? Who knows, will know where to look next 🙂

  9. Gravatar Dmitry Dmitry:

    I got it right after installation. Everything is connected properly.
