Error E41 in Electrolux washing machine

Error E41 in Electrolux washing machineIf you see the E41 error code on your Electrolux washing machine along with "Err," don't immediately blame the control board. This code often indicates a problem with the door lock, which is much cheaper than replacing the control module. However, before making a diagnosis and prescribing a treatment, it's worth running a comprehensive diagnostic of the washing machine. Detailed instructions are below.

Problems with the hatch lock

The system often displays error code E41, detecting a problem with the hatch lock. Visually, the door closes and latches without issue, but the seal is still broken, and the hatch lock does not engage. The situation cannot be resolved by pressing harder – it is necessary to check the condition of the unit contacts with a multimeter.

Error code E41 on Electrolux washing machines most often indicates a faulty door locking device.

Electrolux washing machine locking systemYou'll need a working multimeter with an extended range and a wiring diagram for the door locking system on your model. The latter is important, as each Electrolux washing machine has a unique locking mechanism. Having a visual example makes it easier to disconnect the connector and identify the pin assignments. Here's what to do next.

  1. We set the tester to the resistance measurement mode.
  2. We connect one probe to the neutral contact of the UBL, and the second to the phase.
  3. We evaluate the number displayed on the display. If the multimeter shows a three-digit number, the locking mechanism is fine.

But that's not all. We change the position of the second probe, moving it from the live to the common contact. Again, look at the device's screen and evaluate the result. If the tester displays "0" or "1," then the door lock is definitely damaged and the fault has been identified. If the display shows a different number, then the lock is locking correctly, and we need to continue investigating the cause of the E41 error code.

The thyristor controlling the UBL burned out.

We check and repair the control boardThe second possible cause of the E41 error is a burned-out triac or a faulty control board. This means the door lock is working properly, but the system isn't receiving a signal about the lockout. To repair a damaged module, the circuit will have to be removed and inspected.To do this you need to:

  • remove the detergent dispenser by shaking the tray and pulling it firmly towards you;
  • find 2 bolts in the hole next to the cuvette compartment and unscrew them;
  • remove 4 more screws located on the end of the panel under the top cover of the machine;
  • take the panel with your hands and carefully move it upwards;
  • pry up the latches with a flat-head screwdriver;
  • disassemble the panel housing and remove the control board.

When removing the control board from the Electrolux washing machine, you should secure all disconnected wires to the chamber to avoid mixing up the connections during reassembly.

Once you have the board in your hands, carefully inspect its surface for defects, burn marks, or mechanical damage. If there are no visible causes for concern, you'll need to use a multimeter again and test each triac for breakdown. The following instructions will help you understand how to test the module.

  1. We switch the tester to the sound dialing mode.
  2. Touch the probes to contacts A1 and A2 and look at the display. If "1" or "OL" is displayed, the triac is working properly. If the display is close to zero, the problem must be corrected by replacing the part.
  3. If there's no contact between the terminals, we check the control electrode. Direct the device's ends toward the power terminals and the main electrode. Values of 80-200 are nothing to worry about.
  4. We close the main electrode, and after a couple of seconds, remove the current, observing the state of the triac. If the switch doesn't close, a full repair and replacement is required.

However, it's best not to experiment with the board and entrust the E41 error to a service center. Remember, the module is fragile and expensive, so without experience and practice, it's easy to make the problem worse.
