Gorenje washing machine error E5

Gorenje Washing Machine Error Code E5What does the E5 error code indicate in a Gorenje washing machine? This error code indicates a problem with the motor. To fix the problem, you'll need to replace the washing machine's motor. We'll show you how to do it yourself.

Checking the engine of the Gorenje washing machine

If you see the E5 error code on your washing machine's display, don't panic. Power down the appliance and disconnect it from all power sources. Next, you'll need to remove the motor from the housing and run a diagnostic.

Gorenje automatic washing machines are equipped with collector-type motors.

All Gorenje washing machines are collector-type. An integral part of the washing machine is the drive belt, which starts the rotation process. A rubber band connects the motor pulley to the drum.

As for the internal structure of the commutator motor, underneath the housing are a pair of brushes, a rotor, a stator, fins, and a winding. A Hall sensor, which monitors the motor speed, is located on top. There are two ways to test the motor's functionality, but first, the element must be removed from the washing machine. To do this:

  • de-energize the washing machine, disconnect the drain and fill hoses from the body;check the inlet hose and its connection point
  • Move the machine towards the center to access the rear of the housing;
  • unscrew the screws securing the back panel and remove the wall;remove the back panel of the case
  • remove the drive belt from the pulley;remove the drive belt
  • Take a photo of the wiring diagram to the motor;
  • Disconnect all wires from the engine;unscrew the screws and remove the engine
  • remove the bolts holding the engine;
  • While rocking the engine, pull it out of the washing machine housing.

What to do next? The first diagnostic method is to connect the stator and rotor winding wires and apply 220 volts to them. If the motor starts to rotate, the engine is functioning.

This diagnostic method has its disadvantages:

  • it is impossible to test the engine operation in different modes;connect the engine to the electrical network
  • The device, due to direct connection to the power grid, may overheat (to prevent this, it is better to include a ballast in the circuit in the form of a heating element).

Another way to check the motor winding is to test it with a multimeter. Set the device to resistance measurement mode. A zero or one on the device's screen indicates an open or short circuit.

This is the first stage of diagnostics. Next, it's necessary to check the other commutator components one by one, namely the brushes and fins. Electric brushes need to be replaced every 2-3 years – they are subject to wear and tear. We'll tell you how to tell if your graphite rods need replacing.

The graphite brushes need to be replaced.

Checking the brushes yourself is very simple. They are located on the sides of the motor housing. The rods smooth out the friction force generated by the motor, so they wear out fairly quickly. The procedure is as follows:

  • unscrew the fixing bolts;
  • compress the spring and remove the brushes;we install new brushes
  • disassemble the housing of each electric brush;
  • Assess the degree of wear of the graphite rods.

If the length of the carbon tips is less than one and a half centimeters, the brushes need to be replaced.

Replace the brushes in pairs, even if one graphite rod is worn and the other is not. Purchase components specific to your Gorenje washing machine model. Install the new components in reverse order.

Lamels are responsible for transmitting current to the rotor. They are fixed to the electric motor shaft. When the motor seizes, the lamels break and peel off. If the damage is minor, you may not need to replace the entire motor; simply repair the components using fine sandpaper and a lathe.

The repair will involve removing any delaminations and burrs from the slats. Care must be taken to avoid further damage to the slats. Severe damage will require replacement of the motor.

A washing machine's electric motor cannot function properly if there are problems with the winding. When attempting to accelerate, the motor will overheat. The temperature sensor, having detected an excessively high temperature, will urgently interrupt the system operation, and the control module will display an error code on the display. E5. If the problem is not corrected, the whole cycle will repeat until the thermistor fails.checking the engine with a multimeter

The engine is checked with a multimeter:

  • the tester is switched to resistance measurement mode;
  • the device probes are applied to the lamella;
  • The readings on the device screen are evaluated.

Normally, the motor winding should produce a resistance of 20 to 200 ohms. If the value is lower, there is a short circuit. If the value is higher, there is an open circuit.

The stator is also tested with a multimeter, but set to buzzer mode. The probes are applied to the stator winding one by one. If the tester is silent, everything is fine. A distinctive beeping sound indicates a break. In this case, repair is not possible; the motor will need to be replaced.
