Electrolux Washing Machine Error Code E52

Nowadays, household appliances have become so complex and multifunctional that it's simply impossible to remember all the possible errors a faulty device might generate. That's why it's so important to keep the manual handy. Error E52 in an Electrolux washing machine informs the user that there's a problem with the tachogenerator circuit. This typically means the control module isn't receiving current motor speed data, so it shuts down the motor immediately. How can this be fixed at home?

First, let's find the tachometer sensor.

If the E52 error code appears on the display, then you will have to partially disassemble your “home assistant” yourself. In Electrolux brand washing machines with a commutator motor, the tachogenerator is located on the rotating shaft of the electric motor. So, first of all, you need to remove some parts from the washing machine to gain free access to the sensor. What should you do?

• Unscrew all fasteners from the rear panel of the CM case.
• Remove it and set it aside temporarily.
• Remove the drive belt to expose the tachometer.

Before any repairs to household appliances, be sure to disconnect them from the power supply and water supply.

The tachometer neuter looks like a small iron ring on the shaft. Carefully remove the entire motor, as it's difficult to detach the sensor from the motor without removing the entire assembly. If you're unsure about removing the motor yourself, consider contacting a service center to avoid further damaging the washing machine.

Is the sensor burned out?

If you decide to carry out the repair yourself, you should first take a few photos of the wiring to provide a reference for the connections you'll need during reassembly. After that, you can begin disassembling.

• For convenience, approach the machine from the back.
• Remove all bolts securing the electric motor.
• Remove the wiring from the part to be removed.
• Rock the motor gently, then pull it towards you to remove it from its mounting location.

Keep in mind that the engine is very heavy, so prepare to remove it so as not to accidentally drop it and damage the entire unit.

Once the engine is removed, you will need to carefully examine the tachometer, wiring, and mountings. Sometimes, due to strong vibration during spinning, the contacts come loose and the fasteners become weak. If this is indeed the problem, then it’s very easy to fix – you just need to tighten the terminals more firmly and securely fasten the clamps.

If everything appears to be in order visually, a multimeter should be used for a detailed diagnosis. First, activate the tester in resistance measurement mode, connect the device's probes to the contacts, and evaluate the results. If the multimeter shows a reading of 60-70 ohms, the unit is normal.

You can also measure the current generated by the tachogenerator. To do this, set the tester to voltage mode, connect the probes to the contacts, and try to accelerate the motor by hand. The sensor is working properly if the multimeter shows a value of approximately 0.2 volts.

How to replace a faulty part?

When the E52 error code appears on your washing machine's display, you should be prepared to replace the tachogenerator. It can't be repaired; you can only purchase a new one and install it in its place. To do this, simply disconnect the damaged unit, which is easy to do since all the connectors are easily detached and located in the same location as the other connectors on the electric motor.

To remove it, you only need a thin, flat-head screwdriver. Once the tachometer is removed, remove the top cover—it may be held in place with either small screws or latches.

Now all that's left is to install the new sensor on the motor and then reassemble the CM according to our instructions. Don't forget to take photos of the process to avoid confusion. Be sure to check the tachogenerator and all connections with a multimeter to ensure the replacement was successful.
