Error F02 in an Indesit washing machine
Error codes on an Indesit washing machine indicate the component within the machine that is malfunctioning. It's impossible to say with absolute certainty what exactly might be wrong just by looking at the error code. Even experienced technicians can't figure this out, let alone the average user who doesn't even know what the code means. Let's look at the F02 error code on Indesit washing machines and find out how to fix it.
Error description
In short, error code f02 means that the circuit in the tachometer sensor is broken, preventing the electric motor from working. This typically manifests itself like this: you load laundry into the drum, turn on the washing machine, it fills with water, tries to spin the drum several times, but fails—the drum stops spinning. After 2-3 attempts, the code appears on the display.
The F02 code isn't the only one that indicates this problem. Older units don't even have a display to indicate the error. In these machines, the problem is indicated by indicators on the control panel or a rotating programmer.
If you notice the "quick wash" light on or the extra rinse light flashing, keep in mind that this is error f02.
Reasons for occurrence
The appearance of this error can be caused by various reasons, we will list them:
- malfunction of the tachometer sensor responsible for engine speed;
- jamming of the washing machine motor rotor;
- faulty contacts of connector J9 on the board;
- engine failure, which happens quite rarely, and in such a situation it appears more often error F01;
- control module failure.
Troubleshooting
To eliminate the cause of the F02 error on an Indesit washing machine, you will have to carry out a step-by-step search for this cause. But first, try rebooting the machine’s “brain” by disconnecting it from the network for 20 minutes.
If a malfunction is confirmed, begin searching in the following order:
- Disconnect the machine from the water supply and sewer system and turn it over so that it's facing away from you. The washing machine should be positioned so that you can easily disassemble it;
- Open the rear service hatch or the housing cover of the machine to see the drive mechanism;
- remove the drive belt from the drum pulley with one hand, while simultaneously turning the pulley itself with the other hand;
- Unscrew the bolts holding the engine;

- disconnect all wires from the engine;
- carefully pull it off the mountings and remove it from the car;
- Now remove the speed sensor from the engine and check its functionality using a multimeter in resistance mode; it should normally be 115-170 Ohms;

To check the tachometer sensor, it is not at all necessary to remove the engine from the car.
- Next, check the rotation of the engine rotor to make sure nothing is jammed;
- If everything is in order, proceed to checking the terminals and electrical wires running from the engine to the control board.
Once you've finished with the motor, you need to locate the module. It's located at the rear of the washing machine, to the right of the drum, but this isn't the case for all models.

Disconnect all connectors from the board and remove it. We recommend taking a photo of the wire locations. Next, check the tightness of the contacts on the J9 control board connector. If they are loose, replace them with new ones. Measure the resistance between the first and second contacts.

If you encounter a problem with the control module, it's best to entrust it to a professional. However, if it's a matter of principle, repair the board yourself and gain experience. You might find a like-minded person on the forum who can tell you what needs to be re-soldered for your specific washing machine model. Don't despair. If that's all but impossible, replace the entire module, but be sure to buy one that's already programmed, otherwise you'll run into firmware issues.
In general, the F02 error on an Indesit washing machine can be resolved, but not in all cases. Whether or not to take your machine to a repairman is up to you.
