Error F10 on an Ariston washing machine
A modern washing machine is a complex piece of equipment, and as we know, the more complex the device, the higher the risk of failure. Microprocessor technology used in the washing machine's control unit allows for instant diagnostics and displays a message on the control panel indicating the specific component that has failed. We'll now examine the F10 error code on an Ariston machine. With some knowledge, you can determine the cause of the code and eliminate it.
The nuances of error manifestation
The Hotpoint Ariston washing machine simply stops normal operation. After filling with water, it spins the drum briefly and then drains the water. The F10 error message appears on the display the entire time. However, sometimes the system displays an error for no apparent reason. If the machine doesn't have a display, the F10 error message on the Ariston model will appear as follows.
- For example, the Ariston Margherita has two indicator lights—one for power and one for sunroof opening. The power indicator will flash 10 times in a row, repeating the flashing sequence every 5-10 seconds. The door alarm light will remain on continuously. The washing algorithm selection handle will begin to rotate clockwise and make a constant clicking sound.
- On AVL and other washing machines with wash cycle progress indicators, the delay and quick wash buttons will flash, and most often the key button will flash.
- On the Ariston Low-End washing machine, the spin and cycle end indicators will flash. Additionally, all horizontally mounted buttons may light up.
- On Hotpoint-Ariston Aqualtis type machines, the presence of this fault will be signalled by the wash temperature indicators at 30 and 50 degrees.
What is this code?
Detecting the F10 code indicates an error with the water level indicator. What should you do if you see the F10 code? The indicator is installed in the pressure switch. For some reason, it doesn't generate a real signal about the volume of water pumped in, meaning the tank isn't completely full, but it's not empty either. A malfunction in the indicator causes the washing machine to stop, drain, and the F10 indicator lights up on the monitor.
In other words, this error indicates a serious problem with the machine's pressure switch. However, this will prevent you from fixing it yourself. A message indicating this error can be generated for a number of reasons.
- Malfunction in the control and display unit. The first time the error occurs, you can turn the machine off for 5-10 seconds and then turn it back on. There's likely a problem with the control unit and it will resolve after a reboot. If this occurs frequently, there's a possibility that the room where the unit is installed has high humidity.
- An error indication may appear if the connecting the drain to the sewerThis is typical for new Ariston machines. This means the drain hose is below the tank level (500 mm) or exceeds the recommended length. To prevent this error, the connection must be made in strict accordance with the requirements of the operating documentation. But it will be better if the connection is performed by specialists from a service company.
- Low water pressure. This may be the cause of this error. If water is flowing poorly into your home, you should check the inlet valve. If even opening the valve fully doesn't solve the problem, you should contact your property management company.
Incidentally, low water pressure can be caused by a clogged inlet filter. To fix this, clean the filter.
- The contacts in the pressure switch circuit are faulty. This means you need to manually check all the contacts between the sensor and the control unit and clean them if necessary.
Checking the level sensor
To check the operation of the level sensor, disconnect the hose. Then, turn off the power to the machine. Removing the top cover of the washing machine will give you access to the pressure switch.
The hose is attached to the water level sensor with a clamp. You can use regular pliers to loosen it. Instead of the standard hose, connect a small piece of another hose, which should have been prepared in advance. After securing it, you can gently blow into it.
You will hear clicking sounds when the contacts are activated. The number of clicks will depend on the number of water levels available for the wash program.
In addition to checking the sensor's operation, you'll need to inspect the connected tubes and clean all electrical contacts, if necessary. If the relay contacts are stuck, installing a new one is the best solution. Generally speaking, it's best to have repairs of both individual components and the entire machine performed by a specialized workshop.
