Miele dishwasher error code F11
An F11 error is generated by a Miele dishwasher that is overfilled with water. What could have triggered this code? What is blocking the drain drain? What can be done to fix the problem? Let's explore the details.
Possible malfunctions
Why doesn't my Miele dishwasher drain waste water? The problem could be either a blockage or a breakdown of some internal component of the dishwasher. You can find out what is causing the error code by running a dishwasher diagnostic.
A Miele dishwasher may display error code F11 for the following reasons:
- a kink in the drain hose (in this case, the problem is solved very simply - just straighten the hose and start the cycle again);

- a clogged drain hose (sometimes a "garbage plug" forms in the corrugated pipe). It is necessary to disconnect the drain hose, clean it, and replace it);
- Clogged debris filter (the unit collects dirt, food particles, and bones. All of this clogs the holes in the filter element, preventing water from draining from the washing chamber);
Be sure to clean the dishwasher's debris filter after each use.
- blockage of other elements of the drainage system (we are talking about internal pipes and the drain pump);

- failure of the drain pump (a burnt-out pump cannot pump waste water into the sewer);
- failure of the pressure switch (a faulty water level sensor may transmit false information to the module, causing the Miele dishwasher to display error F11);
- damage to the control module (the unit coordinates the operation of all dishwasher components, and if it breaks down, any error codes may be displayed on the display).
It's recommended to proceed from the simplest to the most complex diagnostics. First, examine components that can be accessed without disassembling the dishwasher. If the fault cannot be found, a full, in-depth inspection of the Miele dishwasher will be required.
Cleaning the system, checking the pump
First, you need to eliminate a blockage in the drain pipe or trap. Therefore, if the dishwasher isn't draining, disconnect the drain hose from the connection point and place it in an empty bucket. If liquid starts to flow, there's an external blockage and the riser or elbow needs to be cleaned.
If water doesn't flow, there's a blockage inside the appliance. First, clean the Miele dishwasher's debris filter:
- unplug the dishwasher;
- open the dishwasher door slightly;
- manually scoop out water from the hopper;

- take out the dish baskets;
- unscrew the filter cap (it is located at the bottom of the washing chamber);
- remove the filter glass and the mesh itself;
- wash the elements in warm water, clean them with a toothbrush if necessary;
- remove the pump cover and use your finger to spin the impeller (be careful, as there may be not only pieces of food inside, but also fragments);

- close the drain pump;
- Assemble the filter unit in reverse order.
Then run a test cycle. If the dishwasher still doesn't drain, you'll need to investigate further for the cause of the F11 error. Next, check the drain pump. The procedure is as follows:
- disassemble the filter unit by removing its components;
- lay the dishwasher on its side;
- Unscrew the bolts holding the machine tray;

- remove the bottom of the dishwasher (you need to act carefully here – the Aquastop system float may be attached to the tray);
- disconnect the float sensor;

- unscrew the screws securing the pump;
- Disconnect all hoses and wires from the drain pump;
- check if the impeller rotates (if not, the part will have to be replaced);
- remove the pump from the dishwasher body.
Next, check the pump with a multimeter. Normally, the pump's resistance should be around 200 ohms. Place the tester's probes against the component's contacts and measure the readings.
A burnt-out drain pump cannot be repaired and will need to be replaced.
If the pump was faulty, replacing it will clear the error. Install the new pump in the reverse order. Finally, run a test wash cycle.
Pressure switch, electronic module
The level sensor may also be the reason why the waste liquid does not drain from the machine. An incorrectly functioning pressure switch transmits distorted readings about the amount of water in the chamber to the control module. Thinking that the bin is empty, the electronic unit will not start the drain pump, so the dishwasher will remain overflowing.
Replacing the pressure switch will help resolve the error. This part is purchased specifically for your Miele dishwasher model. Sometimes the water level sensor tube becomes clogged, and cleaning it can solve the problem.
Finally, the electronic module itself can trigger the F11 error. The control board controls all the dishwasher's components. A faulty module can display any error code.
Power surges, moisture on the board, firmware errors, or worn-out semiconductors can all damage the control module. It's best to entrust diagnostics and repair to a qualified technician, as this work requires specialized knowledge and experience.
