Error F16 in the Atlant washing machine

Error F16 in the Atlant washing machineIf you notice the F16 error on your Atlant washing machine, you should immediately unplug the power cord. In every other case, this code can be cleared by simply rebooting the machine. Wait 20-30 minutes and then plug it back in. If this doesn't resolve the issue, it's not a temporary glitch, but a more serious problem. Let's figure out what to do next.

Checking NTC

What should you do if trying to restart the machine doesn't work? Experts advise against messing with the electronics right away. Error code F16 may indicate a breakdown of the temperature sensor or a loose connection. Therefore, it is recommended to check the thermistor first.

To diagnose a faulty thermostat, you need to access the sensor. It's located inside the heating element of the Atlant washing machine. On most models, the heating element is located at the back, at the bottom of the housing. The procedure is as follows:

  • de-energize the washing machine;
  • close the shut-off valve that regulates the water supply;
  • open the back wall of the washing machine;
  • disconnect the wiring from the heating element, remove the contacts from the sensor that lead to the external temperature controller;
  • remove the heating element from the housing by loosening the mounting screw;
  • remove the thermostat from the heating element.

To check the condition of the temperature sensor, you will need a multimeter.

The tester must be set to resistance measurement mode. Next, attach the device's probes to the thermostat contacts. At 20°C, the thermistor's resistance should be 6000 ohms. Next, place the temperature sensor in hot water and observe the change in the reading on the multimeter screen. The resistance should drop, and at 50°C, it should be around 1350 ohms.Checking the NTC temperature sensor

If the value on the appliance's display doesn't change or deviates significantly from the standard, the thermostat may be faulty. The temperature sensor can't be repaired; a new, working thermistor will need to be installed. Reassembly of the washing machine is then carried out in reverse order.

Electronic failure

If the F16 error on the display isn't caused by a temporary glitch or a faulty thermistor, you'll need to check the control module. In the worst-case scenario, you'll need to replace the processor and reflash the machine. But such drastic measures aren't always necessary.

Visual inspection of the module may not yield results, especially if the parts on it have not been subject to burnout. Possible causes of the error code F16 on the display indicates faulty soldering of diodes, resistors and other elements of the main control board. To perform diagnostics and repairs, you will need:

  • multimeter;
  • soldering iron;
  • rosin;
  • solder;
  • tin.

Without experience working with washing machine electronics and skills in using a soldering iron, it is better not to attempt to repair the control board yourself.

We'll tell you about some of the main washing machine components that you can repair yourself.

  • A capacitor is a component that stabilizes voltage. Its swelling is a clear sign of failure. If it's not clear visually whether the component is working or not, test it with a multimeter (1 indicates an open circuit, 0 indicates a short circuit). When installing a working capacitor, it's important to note its polarity.damaged control board component
  • Resistors are tested in two stages, taking into account the order. The first-priority components are 8-ohm resistors up to 2 amperes. Components rated at 10 ohms and up to 5 amperes are classified as second-priority. Replacement is required if the components fail to meet the specified ratings.
  • The thyristor block also often fails due to voltage surges. It should be checked only after the capacitor has been diagnosed. Set the multimeter to negative resistance and test the first-order diodes. The voltage reading on the tester screen should exceed 20 V.

Repairing the control board is a complex undertaking. Users who have no experience with electronics should avoid attempting to repair the washing machine themselves. It's best to hire a qualified technician for diagnostics.
