Error F27 in a Whirlpool washing machine

Error F27 in a Whirlpool washing machineThe reliability of Whirlpool washing machines has been proven over decades of reliable service. Owners of this brand's appliances describe them as durable and easy to use. However, any mechanism can fail. Smart units prompt owners to identify the specific malfunction interfering with operation. Knowing the cause of the malfunction, technicians can easily determine the correct action in a given situation, such as the F27 error.

What caused the F27 code?

If the "F27" icon appears on the control panel of your Whirlpool washing machine, it indicates a motor failure. Error F27 on the display means the motor is only rotating in one direction. The malfunction is caused by a burnt-out motor reverse relay in the control module.

Troubleshooting a unit on your own is difficult for an untrained person, even a novice technician. To fix the problem, you'll need professional help. To save money on electric motor repairs, the owner of the machine can remove the broken module from the washing machine body with his own hands. Whirlpool and take it to a repair shop.

Removing the control module

If the control panel displays error code F27, you can remove the circuit board and inspect it for mechanical damage, carbon deposits, or oxidation. To remove the component, follow these steps:dismantling the SM Whirlpool control module

  • disconnect the device from the power supply;
  • turn off the water supply hose;
  • on the back panel, unscrew the screws and lift the top cover (sliding it towards the front wall of the case);
  • remove the detergent dispenser by pressing the latch in the center of the rinse aid compartment;
  • Unscrew the screws located along the edges of the control panel. Lift the part;

Important! At this stage, it's a good idea to take photos of the washing machine's wiring and connectors.

  • disconnect the chips with a huge number of wires;
  • remove the block cover by unfastening the latch.

Error F27 does not mean the motor reverse relay is burned out. Damaged contacts or a damaged track may be the cause. Many people can fix this problem themselves with a soldering iron. If inspecting the faulty component is inconclusive and the cause of the failure cannot be determined, it's best to take the removed circuit board to a professional technician.

Is it possible to repair the control board myself?

professional repair of the control boardEven without specialized knowledge, minor control board malfunctions can be easily resolved. Most commonly, Whirlpool appliance owners encounter the following issues:

  • Sensor failure. This often occurs due to clogging of the mode control knob. Fixing this is easy: simply disassemble and clean the knob;
  • Mechanical cleaning also helps when carbon deposits appear on the network filter, as well as when the hatch lock breaks due to residue from detergents;
  • The starting failure can be corrected by disassembling the housing and tightening the pulley, and along with it the belt;
  • Burnt-out resistors also need to be replaced. A tester can be used to check their functionality. The resistance of first-order circuit boards should be 0 ohms with an overload of 2 A. The maximum permissible overload range for second-order circuit boards is 3–5 A. If the tester shows different values, the resistors should be resoldered.

Anyone with technical knowledge can reset the F27 error and fix the problem themselves. You can save money on relay repairs by removing the circuit board and having it repaired by a technician. However, if you lack the necessary skills, it's best to entrust the entire repair process to a professional.
