Error F5 in the Atlant washing machine

Error F5 on SM AtlantWhy does my Atlant washing machine display error code F5 and stop washing clothes? People are increasingly turning to technicians directly and indirectly on various online forums with these and similar questions. What's the cause, and why is this particular malfunction receiving so much attention? Let's take a closer look at it in our publication.

This code is for cars without a display.

Before you begin deciphering the F5 code, you need to be absolutely certain that you're dealing with it. If you have an Atlant washing machine with a display, there's no need to worry about it, as the "home assistant" itself displays this error on the screen. But if you have a control panel with numerous lights and no display, how will you recognize this or that error?

Previously, and even now, quite a large number of washing machines of various brands without a display were and are being produced, and they all have a similar method of interacting with the user.

Error F5 on an Atlant car without a display

It's actually not that complicated. Look at the control panel of an Atlant washing machine without a display and find the bottom row of lights; there are only four of them. The machine communicates with the user through these lights. In our case, if the second and fourth lights are on, counting from left to right, then this is an error. F5. In addition to this code, the following errors may appear on the control panels of Atlant washing machines:

  • F2 – only the fourth light will be on;
  • F3 – the third and fourth LEDs will light up;
  • F4 – only the second LED will light up;
  • F6 – the second and third lights will light up;
  • F7 – this error will be indicated by the second, third and fourth LEDs lighting up;
  • F8 – the entire row is lit (four lights);
  • F9 – the first and last lights are on;
  • F10 – the sign is given by the first and third LEDs;
  • F12, F14 – errors are similar, therefore they are indicated in all cases by the first two lights;
  • F13 – lamps numbered one, two and four are on;
  • DOOR – the “door” code is indicated by LEDs one, three, four;
  • SEL – all lights will blink and go out.

Meaning and reasons for appearance

Well, we hope that now there won't be any problems recognizing codes on Atlant washing machines without a display. And now we'll move smoothly on to deciphering the F5 error code, which is the main reason for this article.

Error f5 on Atlant with display

So, the F5 error code can be briefly interpreted as a problem with the inlet valve. However, it's important to note that this error also occurs in cases of so-called self-draining, when water fills the machine but then immediately drains for some reason. Some technicians are unaware of this and begin intensively testing the inlet valve or even the control module, although the problem may lie elsewhere. If a washing machine displays the F5 error code, the following faults (besides a lack of water in the water supply) may be the cause:

  1. pinched inlet hose;
  2. clogged or faulty inlet valve;
  3. the electrical circuits between the control module and the intake valve are broken;
  4. the pressure switch and/or its electrical circuit are out of order;
  5. The control module is broken.

About troubleshooting

What can I do to get rid of the F5 error? First, I need to find the underlying problem, but as we established in the previous section, there can be quite a few. So, we have no choice but to start by checking all possible options, and, as usual, we'll start with the simplest.

Check that the water supply pressure is sufficient and that the taps are open, not only on the riser pipes but also on the tee valve, which is installed at the inlet of the Atlant washing machine, before the inlet hose. After confirming the water supply is normal, carefully inspect the inlet hose from the outside; it may be kinked or pinched by the Atlant washing machine body.

Some may think that what we are writing is elementary, but as practice shows, in about a third of cases the cause of the F5 error on the Atlant washing machine is such an elementary thing.

Now we need to turn off the water supply to our "home helper" and unscrew the inlet hose. At this point, we need to ensure the hose is completely clean inside, and also check the filter mesh on the inlet valve. This mesh is easy to find; it's located where the inlet hose connects to the washing machine.

We take out the washing machine filter mesh

If your Atlant washing machine still displays the F5 error code after cleaning the hose and filter, we'll need to get inside the machine. Unscrew and remove the top cover. In the upper left corner near the back wall, we'll find the inlet valve. First, check it and the hoses for blockages, then use a multimeter to check the valve itself and its electrical circuit for proper operation. It's quite possible that the valve itself is working, but the wiring is frayed or the contact is corroded.

It's a good idea to carefully inspect the wiring visually, as traces of carbon and oxidation are often visible to the naked eye. If the circuit between the intake valve and the control module is intact, and you're confident the valve itself is working properly, consider looking at components such as the water level sensor or pressure switch.

Let's make a quick note. If the Atlant washing machine doesn't fill with water at all, there's no point in checking the pressure switch. However, if water fills but immediately drains without staying in the tank, resulting in an F5 code, we should check the water level sensor first.

The pressure switch is located at the back of the washing machine, near the inlet valve, just under the top cover. First, we blow out and flush the pressure switch tubes, then use a multimeter to check its electrical wiring and the circuit connecting the water level sensor to the control module. If everything is OK, then everything points to problems with the control module.

At this point, you may be wondering: Is it worth repairing electronic modules yourself?In our opinion, the answer is obvious – don't! The only exception is for someone who is familiar with electronics firsthand, understands its intricacies, and easily reads schematics. For everyone else, we'll give you this free, but ultimately helpful, advice: consult an experienced technician!

To summarize, a washing machine from the well-known brand Atlant displays the F5 error code if, for some reason, it is unable to pump water into the wash tub. We've figured out why this happens and what to do to resolve the error. We hope this information is helpful. Good luck!
