Error FA in Haier washing machine

Error FA in Haier washing machineA rather unusual error code (FA) appears on the Haier washing machine display a few minutes after starting a cycle. The code indicates that the washing machine is unable to determine how much water is in the drum. This is most often caused by a damaged pressure switch or a communication problem between the water level sensor and the control module. Let's figure out what to do in this situation.

Where can I find the specified sensor?

If your Haier washing machine is relatively new and still under warranty, don't attempt to fix it yourself. The warranty period will be voided if you attempt to disassemble the machine. Therefore, if you notice the FA error on the display, invite a service center specialist for a free diagnosis and repair.

If your washing machine's warranty has long expired, you can repair your "home helper" yourself. First, inspect the pressure switch. The procedure is as follows:

  • unplug the washing machine;
  • close the shut-off valve responsible for supplying water to the washing machine;
  • move the machine away from the wall;remove the top cover of the case
  • remove the top cover of the Haier case;
  • find the pressure switch;We find the pressure switch under the housing cover
  • disconnect the wiring from the level sensor;
  • unscrew the pressure switch fixing bolt;Changing the pressure switch yourself
  • After loosening the clamp, remove the sensor from the washing machine housing.

Most often, the pressure switch is a round white or black part with a pressure tube and wiring connected to it.

The mechanical part of the pressure switch is tested with a tube whose diameter matches the level sensor's nozzle. Connect it to the device and blow into it. If the component clicks, everything is OK. Silence indicates a malfunction.

If there are no clicks, then the relay does not respond to the pressure created in the system. A broken pressure switch will have to be replaced; it cannot be repaired. A new level sensor is purchased for a specific Haier washing machine model.

A few words about the structure of this element

To find the pressure switch, simply remove the top panel of the housing. The level sensor vaguely resembles a washer. It has a ribbed plastic housing. The part is usually white or black. Wires are connected to it on one end, and a thin tube on the other.

In fact, the pressure switch doesn't measure the amount of water in the tank. It detects the pressure in the system. The more liquid the washer draws, the greater the air pressure passing through the sensor's nozzle.How does a pressure switch work?

Air passing through the pressure switch presses on the membrane, causing the contacts to close. This sends a signal to the control module to stop filling the tank with water. The microprocessor responds to this command and closes the inlet valve.

If the pressure switch is broken, the wash cycle will not start. The control module will not receive a signal that there is sufficient water in the drum and will not activate the other components. Therefore, if you notice an FA error on the display, it is necessary to immediately check the level sensor.

Sometimes the cause is not a broken pressure switch, but rather loose contacts or a clogged tube.

Let's test the pressure switch coil

Replacing the pressure switch isn't always necessary. If the contacts are loose, simply reconnecting them will suffice. If the problem is a clogged fitting, cleaning the tube will help.

The pressure switch coil is diagnosed using a multimeter. The tester must be set to ohmmeter mode. Then:

  • study the electrical circuit of the water level sensor;
  • attach the multimeter probes to the pressure switch terminals;
  • create pressure in the nozzle, ensuring that the membrane is affected;
  • look at the multimeter readings.checking the pressure switch with a multimeter

When the membrane is triggered, the reading on the multimeter screen should change. If this doesn't happen and the resistance remains the same, the pressure switch will need to be replaced. The cause is not always a damaged coil - even a small crack in the tube will allow some air to escape, meaning the pressure required by the relay will not be achieved.

Experts recommend purchasing only genuine Haier parts. A new pressure switch is selected for a specific washing machine model. You can also take the old pressure switch to the store and ask the salesperson to find an alternative.

Replacing the level sensor is done in reverse order. The mounting surface must be cleaned of any dirt. Then, install the new pressure switch, secure it with a bolt, and connect the wiring and pressure line to it. Then, reassemble the washing machine body and run a test cycle. If the wash cycle begins and the FA error no longer appears, the repair is complete.
