Error H32 in a Bosch washing machine
Error code H32, also known as E32 in some Bosch washing machine models, is considered one of the most common malfunctions encountered by users. However, the problem's prevalence doesn't necessarily mean it can be fixed, as homeowners often simply don't know what error code H32 means in a Bosch washing machine. Let's explore this situation and explain how to resolve it yourself, without the help of a service technician.
What does the code indicate?
Any malfunction of the "home assistant" ruins the user's life, as it either completely blocks the normal operation of the device or degrades the quality of the wash. Breaking H32 indicates that the automatic diagnostic system has detected excessive drum rocking during the spin cycle. After detecting an imbalance, the washing machine urgently drains all water and stops operation to prevent damage to the spider, tub, and other key system components. Thus, the H32 error message on the display also informs you that the risk of further damage to the washing machine has been minimized.
Every new Bosch laundry machine comes with built-in drum imbalance protection, which is especially essential during spin cycles at maximum RPM. This feature instantly detects any drum imbalance, stops the cycle, and displays an error code on the display.
If the error isn't corrected promptly and the drum remains unbalanced, the control board may also fail, which is nearly impossible to repair. This is why it's so important to prevent excessive drum rocking, which is often caused by simply overloading or underloading laundry.
What to do when the code appears?
Don't rush to call a repair service immediately after your appliance displays the H32 error code. It's quite possible you can fix the problem yourself, saving your family money. What should you do in this situation?
- First, you can try opening the door, breaking up the large clump of laundry, and then draining all the water and starting the spin cycle again. This usually helps correct the problem when the washing machine allows you to open the door.
- If you accidentally overloaded the drum with dirty laundry, exceeding the maximum load, open the door, remove a few items, and then restart the spin cycle. If you overloaded the drum with dirty laundry, do the opposite—add more clothes.

- Finally, the breakdown could have been caused by improper installation. Common mistakes made by newbies may have been made during installation. Any washing machine should stand on a solid, level surface, such as concrete or tile, and be leveled with a spirit level. If the machine is unstable, it will experience increased vibration during operation, especially during the spin cycle. Therefore, avoid installing your "home helper" on linoleum, carpet, or wood flooring.
It is important not only to install the washing machine level, but also to place the drain hose at a height of 60-90 centimeters from the floor to avoid possible problems with draining waste liquid into the sewer.
If the problem persists, it's likely not user error but a malfunction. Most problems can be fixed yourself, but for the rest, you'll need to call a repair technician.
What problem causes H32?
We've already established that error code H32 can be caused by installation errors, as well as by a malfunction of a key system component. Let's take a closer look at each of these causes.
- Forgotten shipping bolts. These are only necessary when transporting the washing machine from the store to your home, as they secure the drum in place to prevent it from warping during transit. After installation, the bolts must be removed and plastic plugs installed in their place. If this is not done, and any working cycle is started with the transport bolts installed, the electric motor will try to set the static drum in motion, thus causing strong vibration inside the system and damage to various components.
Starting a working cycle with the transport bolts installed is considered a gross violation of the operating rules and therefore voids the warranty.
- Damaged bearings. To fix this problem, it's best to call a technician, as replacing the faulty component will require almost complete disassembly of the machine.

- Damper system failure. Since the washing machine's drum is suspended, it is supported by springs and shock absorbers, which cushion the effects of centrifugal force and suppress strong vibrations, especially during the spin cycle. If the damper system has failed due to mechanical damage or normal wear and tear from heavy use, it will no longer effectively dampen vibrations, causing imbalances. In this case, you can remove the top panel of the washing machine yourself, press on the drum, and assess its behavior. If it bounces back and immediately snaps back into place, everything is fine, but if it begins to rock erratically, repairs are needed.
- Counterweight failure. Concrete blocks in household appliances are installed at the top, bottom, and sides of the housing to dampen drum vibration, adding weight and stability to the appliance. If a block is damaged, this can also contribute to imbalance. If the counterweight is deformed, it can be repaired with adhesive, tightened bolts, or replaced with solid concrete blocks.

- A faulty CM control board. A faulty electronic module can cause many errors, not just H. It's nearly impossible to check and repair the damage yourself, as this requires extensive experience and specialized equipment. Therefore, it's best to avoid attempting to work on the board and immediately call a service center technician.
As you can see, not all causes of the H32 code are related to damage, so it's best not to rush to call a repair service, but first try to fix the problem yourself.
