LG Washing Machine OE Error

OE washing machine errorThe OE error on an LG washing machine usually occurs at the most inopportune moment, mid-cycle. The drum is full of laundry and soapy water, the machine freezes, and the display shows two incomprehensible letters "OE." In this article, we'll decipher the OE error code, determine the causes, and outline solutions.

Why does the OE error occur in an LG washing machine?

The OE error in an LG washing machine occurs when the program starts the drain pump to remove water, but water nevertheless remains in the tank. In short, experts define this error as: “water does not drain from the machine’s tank.” The error doesn't occur immediately after the pump fails to pump out water. The system has a timeout that allows the draining process to be repeated up to 5-7 times. After 5 minutes, if water still remains in the tank, the system stops the machine and displays an OE error.

Why doesn't the pump drain water from the LG washing machine's drum? Why does the system error code OE occur? Washing machine manufacturer specialists have identified several common causes for this error.

  • OE washing machine errorA serious blockage has formed somewhere in the drainage system (filter, hoses).
  • The sewer system (sink trap, sewer pipe) is heavily clogged.
  • The drain pump is broken.
  • The water level sensor is faulty.
  • The electrical controller is faulty.

If there's a problem with the electronic controller, it may manifest itself in more than just the OE system error. Be careful and observe the machine's behavior when setting different wash modes.

Please note! Before you rush to troubleshoot your washing machine, first check the drain pipes for blockages. Turn off the hot and cold water taps completely and observe how quickly the water drains.

Finding the source of the error: the procedure

Where to start searching for the source of the OE error, what to do specifically? First of all, You need to remove dirt and foreign objects from the most accessible areas of the washing machine. – the first thing in line is the dust filter. Many people know how to clean this filter, especially those who read the instructions before using their washing machine. But if you don't know anything about cleaning the filter, read this article about How to clean the filter.

If the LG washing machine filter is clean and the OE error reappears after restarting the machine, the filter isn't the culprit, and you need to continue searching. If the water still won't drain, the blockage may be somewhere between the sink trap and the washing machine filter. Checking the drain hose and the connection to the trap is crucial.

Please note! If your LG washing machine's drain hose isn't connected to a trap, but is inserted directly into the sewer pipe, check the connection between the pipe and the hose. Clogs often form there.

Disconnect the hose and rinse it with water. If there's a significant buildup of dirt inside the hose, you can use a long steel wire with a hook on the end. If the hose appears clean, continue your search. Experts recommend listening to the drain pump, as the pump in LG washing machines is quite noisy. If the pump is silent or makes strange noises, the problem is most likely with the pump.

A faulty water level sensor or electronic controller can also cause the OE error. Read about how to check and repair the water level sensor in this article. Regarding a possible malfunction of the electrical controller, in this case you will have to contact a specialist. Since It is strongly recommended not to test the electronics of a washing machine yourself..

The cause of the OE error has been identified: how to fix it?

OE washing machine errorHow can I fix the OE error in my LG washing machine? Everything depends on the cause of the OE error and whether it can be fixed on my own. Experts offer some general advice on how to troubleshoot the causes of the OE error code. We'll outline those tips below.

  1. Thoroughly clean the drain pump filter, remembering to remove all foreign objects from it.
  2. Disconnect and clean the drain hose. It's best to use a strong stream of hot water.
  3. Clean the trap and the connection between the drain hose and the trap. This will require disassembling the trap and cleaning all its parts.
  4. Using a voltmeter, check the voltage going to the pressure switch and drain pump sensors. One of the sensors may need to be replaced.
  5. Disconnect the sensors from the pressure switch and drain pump one by one, then turn on the washing machine. Restarting the system with the sensors connected may resolve the issue.

To summarize, if your washing machine suddenly stops working and displays an OE error, don't panic. Learn the error code and begin troubleshooting. In about half of the cases, the problem can be resolved on your own in 10-15 minutes. Good luck!

The machine washes, but when it's time to drain the water, the pump hums quietly and the water doesn't drain, and there's water under the machine.

Same here, I can't find it either.

Apparently it's an epidemic. It seems new, and it's not even been around for two years, but the same problem has arisen.

My LG washer throws an error code mid-cycle, but it works fine after a reboot. I checked the drain and it's clean, as is the tube leading to the water sensor.

Good day everyone. The problem is the same: it washes perfectly. But at the end of the cycle, it doesn't drain the water. At first, it was giving an OE error, only on longer cycles. The shorter cycles washed perfectly.
Afterwards, the OE error message stopped appearing. It would appear to freeze in all modes. The timer on the display would also freeze. And the sound would be barely audible. I had to pause the program, turn on the drain, and then select rinse. That's how I finished the wash.
We've now found the switch. When the wash cycle is finished, it refuses to drain. I try to hit the right side wall with my palm, but only in one spot. That is, the top corner closest to me. And it starts draining and finishes the wash perfectly. Does anyone know why? Thanks in advance.

Oh, thanks, that helped! I was getting fed up with the washing machine.

  9. Gravatar Alexey Alexey:

It washes fine. But when it's time to drain the water, it freezes. Time stands still, only a quiet, dull sound plays. Until you lightly tap the right side wall, specifically the top, nearest goal. If anyone knows the cause, thanks in advance.

There's a problem with the pressure switch, the level sensor. It's located on the top right, closer to the front. I tap it and it trips.

  10. Gravatar Sanya Sanya:

Place the washing machine on its side, with the pump in the corner.

Thanks for the info. I took out the pump, disconnected the electrical part from the mechanical part, took it apart, and cleaned the ignition coil. There was a lot of dirt inside. I cleaned it out and reinstalled it. Everything worked!

I'll add that I had a rubber band wrapped around the pump impeller, which prevented the pump from spinning, and an OE error appeared.
Access is simple: open the drain hose cover. There's one bolt there. Unscrew and remove the cover (it's on clips). The hose is attached to the housing with three bolts, and the pump is also attached to the back of the housing with three bolts. Don't forget to drain the water first.

  12. Gravatar Hope Hope:

The washing machine failed. It wouldn't drain during the rinse cycle. I opened the filter, flooded the entire kitchen, and two washers came out with the water. Hooray, the machine started working again. Now I'll check the pockets more thoroughly. Thanks for your help!

  13. Gravatar Alina Alina:

The cause turned out to be a clogged filter. Thanks for the info.

  14. Gravatar Julia Julia:

Hello. Thank you, step 1 helped. Although I clean the filter often, there was so much dirt here. It hadn't thrown an error yet, so I restarted it and tried a different program. And again, during the rinse and spin cycles, it just hummed, as if it was filling or draining water. But neither happened. I was scared, wondering what part I'd have to replace. And that meant more money.
    Thank you, it worked out.
