How to use and where to pour bleach in a washing machine
It's often necessary to use different bleaches when washing clothes. There are bleaches based on active oxygen and chlorine. The latter are cheaper, but also more aggressive, so housewives use them to restore the whiteness of grayed clothes. The bleaching process is quite labor-intensive, so the question arises: how to do it in an automatic washing machine? We'll try to answer this question.
Can bleach be used?
Bleach, also known as "whiteness," is a strong chemical that can attack not only stains but also metal parts and rubber. This is why chlorine-based bleach, regardless of manufacturer, is sold in plastic containers. A logical question arises: can you use this product in a washing machine? Will it damage the drum or the rubber hoses and fittings?
The answer to this question should first be sought in the instructions for your specific washing machine. If chlorine-based detergents are prohibited, the manufacturer will definitely state this to absolve themselves of any liability. Of course, in most cases, adding bleach to the washing machine is prohibited.
If the manufacturer allows the use of chlorine bleach, then most likely the hoses in such a machine are plastic, and the drum is made of durable material.
Pay attention to the detergent drawer. If it has a special fourth compartment for bleach, this also means it's safe to use.
However, it's worth noting that automatic whitening shouldn't be used frequently. Use this method only as a last resort. A chlorine-based product can not only bleach clothes and get rid of germs, but also clean the machine from unpleasant odors.
Instructions for use
How do you use bleach correctly? The instructions on the bottle will tell you. Here are the general guidelines:
- Inspect the clothing and remove any metal parts if possible. If they can't be removed, you'll have to
Use a different bleach, but not chlorine. Chlorine can darken the metal; - wet the items with cold water and place them in the drum;
- If you have a small amount of items, use half a glass of the product, otherwise, fill a glass if necessary. pour in the powder;
- It is best to pour "Whiteness" into a cuvette;
When pouring the detergent into the drum, dilute it with plenty of water. This is to avoid burning the fabric. - Run the program at a temperature no higher than 45 degrees Celsius. You can set the "Stain Removal" function if you're bleaching and washing immediately. If you don't need to wash, you can simply set the rinse cycle.
Do not use the Silk or Wool modes!
- Rinse the items several times.
Where to pour
Now let's take a closer look at where to pour chlorine bleach into your washing machine. As we've already mentioned, there should be a special compartment for this. You can see such a compartment, number 4, in the picture below.

The bleach compartment must be inserted into compartment number 1, which is designated for prewash. This can only be done with the drawer fully open. This removable container eliminates the need for a prewash. Furthermore, there is a marking on the container that should be used to ensure that no excess bleach is added.
As you can see, starting the bleaching process in your washing machine is not difficult. The most important thing is to make sure it won't harm your appliance.
