Laundry bleaching agents
Every housewife has bleaching gels or powders on her shelf. However, finding gentle bleaching agents for laundry can be challenging. They need to be both gentle and effective, yet also non-damaging. Which bleaches do the professionals recommend?
Liquid oxygen bleaches
Today, stores offer a wide variety of modern bleaches that gently care for fabrics and remove tough stains. Chlorine-based laundry bleaches are becoming a thing of the past. Housewives are increasingly choosing oxygen-based gels, as they are safer and more effective. What chlorine-free oxygen-containing detergents can be used to wash white fabrics?
- BOS, a universal liquid bleach with oxygen. It's chlorine-free, meaning it won't damage clothes, yet it gently whitens and removes stains. Suitable for all fabrics, including silk and wool. 1.2 liters of oxygen-based bleach costs $1.32.
- Clean Home oxygen-based bleach and stain remover is slightly more expensive, costing $1.85 per liter. It's suitable for all types of fabric—cotton, wool, silk, and synthetics. This all-purpose liquid can also be used for washing colored laundry to remove stubborn stains. The same manufacturer also offers a special product for children's clothes at a similar price.
Important! Carefully read the instructions for use of any product containing active oxygen before using it, especially if you plan to wash delicate fabrics.
- Chistin Omega is an oxygen-based liquid bleach. It's designed for synthetics and cotton and can be used on both white and colored clothing. The price is quite reasonable: $0.98 for a 950 ml bottle.
- Ushasty Nyan bleach is designed specifically for children's clothes, but can also be added to the main wash cycle if desired. It removes even the most stubborn stains, including food and juice stains. It's only suitable for white and light-colored fabrics, and like the gels listed above, it's chlorine-free. A 750 ml container of bleach costs approximately $1.20.

- Big Wash, an oxygen-based bleaching agent. It is designed only for washing white and light-colored clothes of any fabric. Active oxygen effectively removes stains. The bleach costs $1.57 per liter.
- LION Bright Strong oxygen-based bleach is made in Japan. This product effectively combats even the most stubborn stains. It can be used on both white and colored fabrics; it's equally effective. This imported oxygen-based bleach costs $3.80 for 510 ml.
There are also non-oxygen bleaches that don't contain chlorine. For example, Synergetic, a universal liquid bleach from a Russian manufacturer, is another option. It's suitable for all types of fabric, including baby clothes. It rinses completely, leaves no marks, and effectively whitens. One liter of the product costs $1.44.
The method for using oxygen-containing products is roughly the same. Apply it to particularly dirty areas and let it sit for 10-20 minutes, then wash the laundry as usual. Alternatively, add bleach directly to the washing machine's detergent drawer in addition to the main product.
Powder bleaches
Of course, liquid oxygen-based bleaches rinse out better from fabric. This makes them much less likely to leave marks on clothing and cause allergies. However, chlorine-free powder bleaches can also be used for effective bleaching. Which ones are most popular with consumers, and what fabrics are they suitable for?
- Beckmann Super is a concentrated oxygen-based bleaching powder made in Germany. It is intended only for light-colored and white fabrics; it should not be used on colored clothing. It can only be used as an additive to the main laundry detergent, not directly on the fabric. The bleach costs $1.40 for two sachets (each sachet is sufficient for one wash).
- BOS Plus Maximum oxygen-containing laundry detergent is made in Russia. It is designed for washing synthetics, cotton, wool, and silk, as well as colored and white items. It quickly and effectively removes even the most stubborn stains, including coffee, tea, blood, and more. It enhances the performance of regular laundry detergent, preserving the color and appearance of fabrics. The product costs $0.63 per 300 grams.
Please note: Bleach is added directly to the detergent dispenser along with the washing powder.
- Clean Home Express Effect Powder Bleach and Stain Remover. This oxygen-based product is suitable for washing both white and colored fabrics and effectively removes heavy stains. It can be used in both machine and hand washing. Price: $3.45 per kg.

- Ecover is a chlorine-free, eco-friendly bleach with active oxygen, made in Belgium. It can be used for washing both colored and white laundry, and is suitable for children's clothing. It is highly eco-friendly, biodegradable and leaves no residue on clothing. It costs $3.49 for 400 grams.
- Ushasty Nyan, an oxygen-containing dry bleach for baby clothes, is designed to remove stubborn stains from light-colored fabrics and enhances the effectiveness of regular laundry detergent. It's also hypoallergenic, making it suitable for washing newborns. It costs $1.14 for 500 grams.
- SARMA Active is a bleach for light-colored fabrics. It can be used for hand and machine washing of cotton and synthetic items. The manufacturer claims that the product allows you to save up to 50% of washing powder. It also has an antibacterial effect. The bleach costs $0.86 per 500 grams.
Oxygen-based bleaches can work even in cold water. In contrast, chlorine-based powders are more effective at higher temperatures. Although they are less gentle on fabrics, they also provide disinfection, so chlorine-based products may be preferable in some situations. In other cases, oxygen-based bleaches are the best choice, including for colored clothing.
Be sure to choose a product that is approved for bleaching the specific material. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging carefully. Also, check the label on the garment itself to see if it can be bleached. Improper use can permanently damage the item.
