How to turn off the spin cycle in an Indesit washing machine
Sometimes users need to disable the spin function in their Indesit washing machine. For example, when washing delicate fabrics prone to shrinkage. It's easy to do. We'll explain how to start a cycle without this function.
How is the shutdown performed?
Of course, before using any automatic washing machine, it's best to read the instructions. The user manual answers all your questions, from installation details to safety precautions. So, if you haven't lost the manufacturer's manual, reread it.
The spin function on Indesit washing machines can be turned off very easily. The control panel of automatic washing machines has a separate control knob, which can be used to set the desired spin speed or turn off the function altogether. The handle is indicated by a symbol of a crossed-out spiral.
On some Indesit models, the spin cycle is disabled with a special button. It's also marked with a diagonally crossed spiral. This option is typically found on automatic machines with a display.
To run a cycle without spinning, set the appropriate washing program, and then use the button or rotary knob to turn off the unnecessary function.
The machine will then begin washing. After the rinse cycle, the machine will drain the water and indicate the end of the cycle. When unloading the laundry, be aware that a lot of water will drip off the items.
Why do this at all?
The option to disable the spin cycle when starting the washing machine allows users to follow the recommendations provided on garment care labels. This helps preserve the garment's original appearance and prevent deformation and fading. This is especially useful for materials that are not suited for intense mechanical stress.
Fabrics that are best washed without spinning include:
- silk;
- cashmere;
- wool;
- acrylic;
- viscose;
- membrane.

It's also recommended to turn off the spin cycle when washing items with complex embellishments, such as those embellished with rhinestones, beads, lace, unusual buttons, studs, fringe, and so on. Sewn-on details can easily peel off the fabric at high speeds, and delicate lace can tear. Avoid spinning delicate curtains like voile, organza, and the like.
Washing without spinning or at minimum speed also helps extend the life of the washing machine. In this situation, the tub, drum, and bearing assembly are not subject to increased stress, and therefore are less susceptible to wear. Therefore, disabling this function also has a beneficial effect on the machine itself.
Some users disable the spin cycle to reduce washing time. Machines typically spin clothes for about 15 minutes. So if you're in a hurry and can't wait, simply disable the function.
Other icons on the Indesit washing machine panel
In addition to the crossed-out spiral, there are many other icons on the control panel of Indesit washing machines. The symbols are deciphered directly on the dashboard, so users usually don't have any difficulty interpreting the images. If you have any doubts, consult the washing machine instructions – all the symbols are described there.
Indesit washing machine dashboards feature icons indicating washing programs and various additional functions. We'll describe the symbols found on most modern models.
- A T-shirt with the letter P. This indicates the "Cotton with Soak" cycle. The water temperature is 90°C. The spin speed is set to maximum by default.
- A T-shirt with the number 90. This is another variation of the Cotton program. The main difference is that it's washed in a more intensive cycle. The water temperature is 90°C.
- White T-shirt with the number 60. Standard "Cotton" cycle. Suitable for washing normally soiled cotton and linen items. Water is heated to 60°C.
On Indesit washing machines released more than five years ago, the Cotton cycle is indicated by a cotton flower symbol, while on more modern models it is indicated by a white T-shirt.
- A T-shirt with a shower head. This refers to the "Gentle Wash" cycle. The water temperature is 40°C.
- A 60 or 40 symbol indicates the "Synthetics" cycle, with a water temperature of 40°C or 60°C. This cycle is designed for washing synthetic and blended fabrics. The default spin speed is maximum. The cycle lasts approximately 80 minutes.
- A ball of thread. Standard program designation: "Wool." Wash in cool water; spin is not included by default. For the care of wool and cashmere items.
- Women's T-shirt. This design conceals the "Silk" cycle. The water is heated to 30°C, and the drum rotates smoothly. This cycle is suitable for washing delicate fabrics, underwear, and sheer curtains.
- Folded Trousers. This is the special "Jeans" program. The wash is performed in water heated to 40°C at reduced drum speed.

- Clock. Express mode symbol. This program is perfect for when clothes need a little refreshment. The cycle lasts 15 minutes, and the water is heated to 30°C. The load should be no more than 1/4 of the maximum load.
- Sportswear and ball. This image represents the "Sport Intensive" cycle. Suitable for heavily soiled laundry.
- The Double Dumbbell Wash program is another program for washing sportswear, but the drum spins less vigorously than the previous program.
- Sneakers. A separate cycle for washing athletic shoes. The water temperature is raised to 30°C, and a maximum of two pairs can be loaded into the drum at a time. The cycle lasts 50 minutes.
- Curtain. A special program for washing curtains and drapes. Spinning is performed at a low speed.
- A crescent moon in a black circle. "Night Wash" cycle. This cycle is quieter than standard programs.
- Droplets and two waves underneath them. This is the "Rinse" option. The short cycle is used for clean laundry, often as an additional procedure after the main cycle.
- Spiral. Symbol of spinning.
- Two wavy lines with a drop of water underneath. This icon indicates the "Drain without spin" mode. The machine will simply drain the water from the tank and indicate the end of the cycle.
- Small iron. This refers to the additional "Easy Ironing" option. When activated, the drum rotates more smoothly, resulting in virtually wrinkle-free laundry.
- Stopwatch. The button with this symbol is used to delay the start of a cycle. The timer can be set for a specific time, depending on your Indesit washing machine model.
- A T-shirt with a stain. This is the name of the "Stain Removal" option. It's very similar to the "Soak" mode. It's suitable for heavily soiled items.
Some Indesit models also feature a "50% load" button. Press it when loading a small amount of laundry into the drum. The machine then optimizes water and kilowatt consumption.
Most Indesit washing machines have a dedicated button on the control panel for adjusting the cycle temperature. It's indicated by a standard thermometer. The temperature can be lowered, or increased on some programs.
If your washing machine has a drying option, there will be a corresponding icon on the dashboard. It's usually a symbol resembling the sun, a circle with rays radiating outward.
Modern Indesit automatic washing machines offer a wide range of features. Therefore, to take full advantage of your "home assistant," be sure to read the instructions for your machine.
