How to turn off an Indesit washing machine
Sometimes a user needs to unplug an Indesit washing machine while it's in the middle of a cycle. For example, in the event of a leak. Simply unplugging the power cord is a bad idea, as it can damage the appliance. Let's look at how to de-energize a running washing machine and the proper procedure.
Basic methods for safely stopping the SM
There are various reasons why you need to urgently unplug your Indesit washing machine: from a forgotten wallet in your jeans to a huge puddle spreading underneath the appliance. In any situation, it's important to disconnect your "home helper" as safely as possible. Indesit offers users three options.
You can pause the wash cycle for a short period of time. This is possible during the first few minutes after the cycle starts, while there's no water in the drum. This method is useful if you need to remove a wallet, keys, or other item from the drum. Follow these steps:
- press the "Start/Pause" button;
- Turn the program selector to the "Stop" position.

After this, the indicator on the control panel will flash, and water will stop filling. After another minute, the washing machine door will unlock. You can then open the door and remove any foreign object from the drum. Modern Indesit machines remember the point at which the user paused the cycle and resume the program from where they left off.
The second option is to turn off the washing machine. If the drum is already full, pausing the cycle won't work. Before opening the washing machine door, the user will need to drain the water from the drum by selecting the appropriate mode or using the emergency drain.
In this case, press the "Start/Pause" button, then select the "Drain" mode using the dial. If you plan to drain the water through the debris filter, then after the cycle stops, press and hold the power button on the washing machine. This will turn off the machine. Only then can you unplug the power cord.
And finally, you can turn off the machine in an emergency by simulating a power outage. Pulling the washing machine's power cord out of the socket to de-energize the machine is only permitted in extreme cases. Such an intrusion into the intellect is fraught with problems - it can lead to the breakdown of the control unit.
Indesit washing machine software is sensitive to power surges, so a sudden change can damage the control board.
If you need to turn off the machine during a wash cycle, follow these steps: First, press the "Start/Pause" button, then the power button. Unplug the power cord last.
The door remained locked.
Forced shutdowns of washing machines don't always go smoothly. Sometimes, after the appliance has completely stopped, the user is unable to open the drum door. The door lock fails to engage, leaving the washing machine locked.
You can fix the blocker yourself, without the help of a professional. The procedure is as follows:
- prepare a rope, slightly longer than the diameter of the hatch;
- tuck the cord into the gap between the door and the body of the washing machine, where the UBL is located;
- Pull the rope taut so that it puts pressure on the lock and move it up and down.

Once the lock clicks, you can open the washing machine door. If this method doesn't work for you, another option is available. Use a thin spatula, insert it into the gap between the door and the machine body, and press down on the locking tab. Be careful not to scratch the washing machine.
If you can't open the door with either a rope or a putty knife, there's a third option. In this case, you'll need to:
- de-energize the washing machine;
- unscrew the two screws holding the top cover of the case;

- remove the “top” of the machine (to do this, you need to push the panel away from you and lift it up);
- take a thin slotted screwdriver and push it through the top of the machine to the hatch locking device;

- find the lock tongue and move it to the side.
When the plate on the lock is displaced, you will hear a click. This indicates the door lock has been successfully disengaged. Before opening the door, make sure there is no water in the tank. If there is, be sure to drain it.
Getting rid of water
In general, you need to drain the water from the drum before trying to open the door. If you are unable to start the “Drain” or “Drain+Spin” program, you will have to empty the tank manually. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- unplug the washing machine;
- turn off the valve responsible for the water supply;
- find the dust filter (it is located in the lower right corner of the case, behind the narrow technical panel);
- Tilt the machine back slightly and place a low but capacious container underneath it to collect water;
- cover the floor around the washing machine with rags;

- first unscrew the trash filter half a turn;
- After collecting some of the water, remove the filter completely.
If the machine washed items on a high-temperature program, you should wait 30-40 minutes before unscrewing the filter - during this time the water will cool down.
Immediately rinse the debris filter and clean the hole where it fits. After that, you can screw the coil back in place. It's important to install the plug evenly to prevent future leaks.
Another way to empty the drum is to drain the water through the drain hose. If you place the hose below the tank level, the liquid will drain by gravity. Disconnect the drain hose from the trap or drain pipe and direct its end into a prepared basin.
There's nothing wrong with shutting down your washing machine in an emergency. The key is to stay calm and act collectedly. First, turn off the machine using the button, then unplug the power cord. Next, drain the water from the drum, and finally, try opening the washing machine.
