How to cancel a wash cycle in a Samsung washing machine

If necessary, you can force a Samsung washing machine to cancel the wash cycle and stop it at any point. The only problem is that if you force a stop, the machine won't unlock the door but will instead freeze, awaiting further action. What to do next depends on the task at hand. But to do so, you'll need to consider all possible options, including instructions and recommendations.

Step-by-step instructions

If you need to quickly get things out of the washing machine, one stop will not be enough. After canceling the wash, you need to drain the water, unlock the door and only then enter the drum. In step-by-step instructions it looks like this:

• find the “Start/Stop” button on the dashboard;
• after waiting for it to stop, press the “Drain” button;
• wait 1-2 minutes, which is necessary for the drum to empty;
• At the end of the program, open the hatch and take out the laundry.

On a Samsung washing machine, the automatic door lock is released 3-4 minutes after the end of the drain program.

Some Samsung models don't have a dedicated "Drain" button. In this case, you need to first turn on "Spin," and after 1-2 minutes, adjust the setting to "No Spin." There's no contradiction—the Korean model will "understand" that the drum only needs to be emptied.

If you selected a program by mistake and now need to switch to a different mode, it's much easier. Simply hold down the "Start/Stop" button and then press the appropriate button. There's no need to drain the water—the system will automatically perform all the necessary steps.

Problems arise when the "Start/Stop" button doesn't work. In this case, it's necessary to determine the cause of the "sticking." First, check to see if the child lock is enabled. A locked dashboard will not respond to user commands. Disabling this feature varies: the combination depends on the model (there's a smiling lock icon on the module next to the locking buttons). Typically, you need to simultaneously press and hold the "Temperature" and "Rinse" or "Rinse" and "Spin" buttons.

Do not open the hatch if the water has not been drained from the drum!

If the panel lock is disabled and the buttons don't work, there's likely a problem with the control board. This problem can't be fixed with a full tank, so unplug the washer and wait 4-5 minutes for the door to unlock automatically. After the door lock is activated, you'll need to drain the water from the drum manually. To do this, locate the access hatch in the lower right corner of the housing, pry it open with a flat-head screwdriver, and remove the waste filter. Be prepared for wastewater to pour out.

Emergency situations

Emergency situations often force you to cancel a washing machine's cycle. For example, the machine stops washing during a sudden power outage. In this case, you just have to wait—modern Samsung machines can remember the stoppage and resume the cycle at the set point when the power comes back on.

Unplugging a running washing machine is only permitted in extreme cases – the system reacts sharply to voltage surges!

If the machine freezes and does not respond to user commands, it is better to unplug the unit from the outlet and try again after 15-20 minutes. Restarting the system resets the wash, after which you can restore control. If the device freezes again, you should end the cycle and call a service center specialist.

In situations where you must urgently leave the apartment, it's also recommended to force the cycle to end. Leaving washing machines running unattended is extremely dangerous – they could catch fire or leak. Therefore, before leaving, press "Start/Stop" and wait 5-10 minutes for the machine to come to a complete stop.
