Adjusting the door of an LG washing machine

Adjusting the door of an LG washing machineOver the long term, washing machines inevitably experience minor problems that need to be addressed promptly. One such issue is a loose door. If the door isn't adjusted promptly, sooner or later it will either fall off completely or stop sealing the drum, leading to leaks.

We remove the play

Play is a gap that occurs when the door is actively used where it attaches to the body. To eliminate this gap, remove the door and inspect the problem. Generally speaking, adjusting the door on an LG washing machine is a simple matter.

  • Take a medium sized Phillips screwdriver.remove the CM door
  • Open the hatch door all the way.
  • Unscrew the two screws located in the hinge area.
  • Now close the door halfway.
  • Pull it towards you and up a little, it should come off.

Now, take a look at the hinges: they have small plastic parts that look like spools on them. Inspect them for wear. This is usually the main reason why play develops in the hatch door hinge.

Important! Finding these parts in a store to replace worn-out ones with new ones is extremely difficult. Therefore, for many years, the practice has been to replace the bushings with regular FUM tape.

This is done extremely simply. Take a roll of ribbon and wind it around each loop by eye: not too thick, but not too thin either. Then replace the door, but don't screw it in right away. Try opening and closing the hatch. If the gap is still visible, remove the door and add more FUM, then check again. If the layer is too thick, simply scrape off the excess.

The downside of this repair method

Of course, it's hard to believe that ordinary fluoroplastic film can replace full-fledged plastic bushings on hinges. However, don't jump to conclusions. The point is that you can't let play develop without a solution, and getting hold of reels, especially in an emergency, is truly a daunting task. FUM tape, on the other hand, can be purchased at any hardware store, and you can perform the repair yourself for next to nothing, in 5-10 minutes.

However, the tape's durability leaves much to be desired. There's a good chance the loops will reopen within a couple of months.

In this case, simply repeat all the steps and renew the FUM on the hinges. This is much more cost-effective and time-efficient than regularly calling a technician and paying them for the work and ordering a hard-to-find consumable.

You can also combine this with removing the play in another way that's beneficial for your washing machine. The space under the hinges often accumulates various contaminants, especially rust. Naturally, this area is very difficult to clean when the door is in place and everything is clogged. But when you wind the tape on the hinges, you can, at the same time, unscrew a couple more screws, take the hinges out of the niche, and remove harmful dirt. After all, the more carefully you treat your washing machine, the longer it will serve you.
