What to do if there is a lot of foam in the washing machine?

a lot of foam in the drumWhen we start a wash cycle on a washing machine, we usually retreat to another room to do our own personal chores. Few people watch the entire wash, rinse, and spin cycle, with the possible exception of small children and cats. So, imagine this: you return to the washing machine a short time later and see foam pouring out. Foam clouds are everywhere: around the machine body, in the drum, and even on the floor. What to do in this situation, and the causes of this phenomenon, we will discuss in this article.

The reasons for this phenomenon

If you notice that your washing machine is covered in clouds of foam, there is no time to discuss the reasons. You must immediately disconnect your "home assistant" from the power supply to prevent a short circuit in the electrical system or electronics. If this happens, the machine will require expensive repairs. After unplugging the washing machine, remove any foam from the control panel by thoroughly wiping the dials and buttons with a dry cloth. If the drum is open, remove the items and run the rinse cycle to flush out any foam.foam in the washing machine

If the door won't open, interrupt the wash cycle and run the rinse cycle again, but without spinning. Repeat this several times until the foam is removed. Then, with a sigh of relief, begin to investigate the cause of the problem.

There are very few reasons why a washing machine can accumulate a lot of foam, but that doesn't mean you can be careless about this problem, as it could very well lead your "home helper" to the landfill.

  • Low-quality powder (manufactured with violations of technology or counterfeit).
  • Hand washing powder was used by mistake.
  • Significant overdose of powder.
  • We washed bulky items with a lot of powder.
  • When washing is done in high quality soft water.

Please note: The powder dissolves better and lathers better in softened water.

Another possible scenario is that there may be a small amount of foam, but it spills out along with the water and around the washing machine body. This situation is a clear indication of a serious problem, which could be caused by a leak in the hose, pipes, tank, or pump, or by a leak in the rubber seals, especially the door seal. It's all about the powder

Anyone can stumble upon low-quality detergent. Before you know it, your washing machine is sudsing, and you're unsure what to do. What's the matter?

Many users swear that they buy only the most well-known and proven brands of powders for their "home helper," while some people even use washing gels. However, when you buy a pack of washing powder at a store with a well-known label for an automatic washing machine, you cannot look inside and check the chemical composition of the contents. Moreover, even after unsuccessful use of cleaning chemicals, you will have little to prove and, ultimately, there will be no one to compensate for the damage.

Bringing counterfeit household chemical manufacturers to justice involves a complex legal process, and recovery of damages through civil proceedings is unlikely.

powder dosageThis is what unscrupulous detergent manufacturers, as well as counterfeiters, take advantage of. At best, they buy the cheapest detergent wholesale and then pour it into packages labeled as expensive detergents. At worst, they take industrial components and mix them haphazardly, making the powder not only dangerous for the washing machine but also for humans. Therefore, when foam starts pouring out of your beloved washing machine, it's no surprise that low-quality detergent is to blame.

If we were talking only about counterfeit powder, we could end the story within this point, but here everything is more complicated. Often the user himself is to blame for the fact that his machine began to spew out a lot of foam. The simplest example is when a user, blindly or in a hurry, confuses a pack of hand washing powder with a pack of machine washing powder.

In this situation, if the detergent dose is small and the wash cycle is not intensive, nothing critical will happen; a little more foam will simply form in the drum. However, if the dose is large, so much foam may form that it can cause damage to the washing machine.

Why only hand-washing detergent? Putting too much machine-washing detergent in the detergent drawer can have a similar effect – lots of foam and lots of problems!

Special things or water

Sometimes, even though you've used the correct detergent and poured it into the correct compartment of the washing machine's detergent drawer, you're still getting an unusual amount of foam. Why does this happen? There are three possible causes:

  1. the drum is filled to capacity with bulky, light items;
  2. you moved the car to a new location where the water is softer;
  3. You simply installed a filter to purify and soften the water.

If you're used to using the same amount of detergent when washing clothes in hard water, it's not surprising that using the same amount of detergent when washing in soft water can result in a more than a little foamy. The same thing would happen if you used the same amount of detergent when washing tulle as you would when washing cotton shirts. Be careful!

How to prevent foamy clouds?

washing bulky itemsTo summarize the above, we will briefly note what needs to be done in order to avoid periodically contemplating beautiful, but dangerous for the car foamy clouds.

  • There is no need to use hand washing powder if you are going to wash your clothes in a washing machine.
  • Try to use a high-quality powder; if in doubt, test it before washing by pouring a teaspoon of the product into the washing machine's drawer and running a program with several rags in the drum.
  • Don't put too much powder into the machine. Experts even recommend slightly reducing the dosage of detergent, but certainly not exceeding it – be economical.
  • If you wash items in soft water, use half as much detergent as the manufacturer recommends.
  • Washing bulky items? Use 1/3 of the recommended amount of detergent, and the wash will go smoothly.

So, we've covered all the main reasons why your washing machine might suddenly start foaming. Follow the guidelines above, and this problem will never happen again!

    Thank you, I fixed my washing machine with your help. It was clogged with foam from the baby wash gel that had stained my clothes. I set it to rinse without detergent (at least I had the sense to do that), and the drum clogged with foam, and the machine eventually shut off and wouldn't turn back on.
