Resetting an Electrolux Washing Machine

An Electrolux washing machine, like any other appliance, can occasionally "freeze," meaning it stops working for no apparent reason, sometimes mid-program. As a result, there's no way to stop this intermittent state other than resetting the Electrolux washing machine. Is there a special key or button combination for resetting the program, and how to reset it properly? Let's find out.

Is it possible to reset an Electrolux washing machine?

A quick look at the manual for any Electrolux washing machine reveals that the reset option is not addressed. There's no dedicated key or key combination for restarting the machine. Instead, you'll need to use the standard procedure: hold down the on/off button, wait for the machine to turn off, and then turn it back on. Most system errors are resolved at this stage. If this approach does not help, you should reboot the machine by removing the plug from the socket for a quarter of an hour. Then you just need to reconnect the washing machine to the network and start it.

If the second method doesn't help, it's a malfunction, not a simple system failure. The error code system on washing machines can help diagnose the problem. Modern models display symbolic combinations on the display, while older models display specific, patterned indicator flashes on the control panel. Until the problem is fixed, the machine won't work.

Errors that cause Electrolux washing machines to freeze

Electrolux washing machines are quite smart and, in most cases, display the correct error code. All you have to do is decipher it correctly and troubleshoot the problem. In 90% of cases, this method resolves the freezing issue. So, what error codes might you encounter with Electrolux washing machines?

• E01/EA1; E02/EA2/E04/EA4; EA5. Any of the above combinations on your display indicates that the machine is unable to rotate the drum. In the first case, this may be due to a broken or slipped drive belt; this can be resolved by checking and tightening or replacing the belt. In the second case, the cause is a faulty sensor or drum parking device; therefore, it is necessary to check the problem. Finally, EA5 indicates a malfunction of the electronic control unit, which also needs to be checked.
• E03. The water isn't heating. This could be due to either a faulty heating element or a faulty relay. First, check the relay and replace it if necessary. If the relay is working properly, the heating element itself needs to be replaced.
• EA6. In this case, the machine cannot start the wash cycle for some reason (no drum rotation data is received for 30 seconds). The door lid may not be fully closed; you can try opening and closing the door and restarting the program. Sometimes the drive belt may be the culprit, which again needs to be either tightened or replaced. This error can also be caused by a malfunction in the drum positioning system. Inspection and replacement of the device can resolve the issue.

Please note: Electrolux top-loading washing machines are particularly susceptible to the EA6 error.

• E10. The drum doesn't fill with water within the set time. Either there's no water in the water supply or the pressure is insufficient. In this case, check whether there's water in the water supply and ensure the water supply valve is open. Sometimes a clogged drain can be the cause, in which case it needs to be thoroughly cleaned. You should also check the triac and the inlet valve, as a faulty one can also cause this problem. If one or both components are truly defective, they will need to be replaced.
• E11. The drum is still not filling with water, or it is filling but the water level is insufficient. Possible causes include: a faulty water inlet valve, a faulty control unit that is not signaling water to enter the drum, a clog in the pipes, or low water pressure in the water supply system. Possible solutions: check the water pressure in the network, check for a clog in the pipes and, if so, clear it, and check that the solenoid valve is working properly. If none of these steps help, the control unit may need to be repaired or replaced.
• E13. Water detected in the washing machine tray. There can be only one reason - damage to the CM body. The solution is also the only one - call a specialist to inspect the case and possibly make repairs.
• E20/E21/C2 for some models. The washing machine either doesn't drain at all after a wash, or drains only incompletely. Possible causes: a malfunctioning drain pump, a clogged drain system, or a faulty control module. Possible solutions: check the drain pump for proper operation (the impeller should rotate freely), thoroughly inspect the drain hose to eliminate any blockage, and repair or replace the control module if the previous steps don't help.
• E23. Water drain error. This is most often caused by a burnt-out triac on the electronic board. In this case, replacing the triac is the only solution.
• E24. This is also a water drainage problem, related to a poor connection between the pump and the pump's triac. You can check the wiring and replace the faulty sections or the entire wiring.
• E31. According to the manual, this error can occur at any stage of the washing machine's operation. Attempting to open the door will fail. Possible causes include: the door isn't closed securely, the button on the control panel is stuck, the contact between the locking device and the circuit board is broken, or the electronic controller is malfunctioning. Possible solutions: check that no foreign objects are interfering with the door's closing and ensure that the buttons operate correctly. It's also important to ensure that the room humidity level isn't too high, which could cause contact failure.

If none of the above helps resolve the problem with your washing machine freezing, there may be a more serious issue that only a qualified technician can identify.
