First start of the Samsung washing machine
Experts unanimously agree that after installation and connection to the utilities, a washing machine should be run empty, without laundry. This will remove all production debris without soiling the laundry, and it will also benefit the machine itself. However, the initial startup is not meant to be done on your own: there are clear instructions that must be followed strictly if you want everything to run smoothly. Let's look at how to run a Samsung washing machine for the first time.
Is the machine ready to run?
The first thing a new washing machine owner needs to do is figure out how to use it. Open the manual, look at the symbols on the control panel, and figure out which buttons do what. Next, make sure the machine is ready for its first wash. Follow this four-step checklist to find out.
- Secure fastenings. Typically, if the machine is installed professionally, there are no problems with the fastenings. However, if the user does it themselves, they may, for example, not tighten the hose clamps tight enough, which will lead to leaks during the initial start-up.
- Transport bolts. These fasteners hold the tank in place during transport to ensure the shock-absorbing system remains intact. Washing with transport bolts in place is a real test for the machine, as this process can cause serious damage to the interior of the unit. Therefore, before the first use, be sure to replace the bolts with the included plastic plugs.

- Drum contents. Some removable parts may be placed inside the drum before transport. Of course, they must be removed before the first wash.
- Packaging. Before transporting, the store takes great care to protect the washing machine, covering it with tape or duct tape in certain places, padding it with cotton wool or foam, and even securing it with plastic ties in some places. All of this will need to be removed before the test wash.
Important! Damage caused by shipping bolts is not covered by warranty.
If you've taken care of all the details, you can run the pre-wash cycle. Remember, this isn't a full cycle; it's sometimes called a test cycle. We'll explain why it's needed and how it's performed below.
Pre-start of the machine
Of course, starting a washing machine for the first time doesn't seem all that difficult. Just plug it in, open the water tap, load the laundry, start the program, and you're done! But the technical cycle has a number of subtleties.
A preliminary run necessarily involves washing in an empty drum. An "empty" cycle solves two problems simultaneously:
- washing away the remains of industrial lubricant from the inside of the washing machine and, as a result, eliminating the unpleasant industrial odor that comes from the lubricant;

- Check the unit's functionality with minimal risk. Check how the water is drawn in, how noisy it is, whether there are excessive vibrations or unusual sounds, etc.
Do not place laundry in the drum for a test wash, as the traces of the manufacturing lubricant and its odor may be transferred to the items, making it extremely difficult to remove: the lubricant is quite greasy and permanently embeds itself in the fabric fibers. But keep in mind that even though the cycle is carried out without laundry, the presence of detergent is required! It will effectively remove dirt and odors from the drum.
If you encounter any problems during the test run, whether technical issues (leaks, breakdowns, etc.) or problems with the unit's electronics (error codes, software glitches, etc.), immediately call a service center technician to your home. Most Samsung washing machines come with a one-year warranty.
Studying the settings and starting the machine normally
Selecting a program during a test run isn't crucial. But when you're ready to wash a full load of laundry, choosing the right program is key. After all, an incorrectly set temperature or too-strong spin cycle can damage your laundry. On modern Samsung washing machines, choosing a program is a real challenge, given their extensive functionality.
The manufacturer's user manual always describes all the available modes, their main features, and the symbols on the control panel. So, be sure to read the user manual and determine the correct program based on the information provided.
The color of the laundry and the fabric it's made from are fundamental factors when choosing a washing program. Generally, the algorithm for starting the first wash looks like this:
- plug the power plug into the power outlet;
- open the water tap;
- Sort the laundry and load it into the drum, keeping in mind the maximum load capacity. Do not load more than the maximum capacity or less than the minimum capacity.
- slam the hatch door;

- add detergent;
- Set the program that suits you and adjust the parameters if necessary (on Samsung washing machines, you can adjust the temperature, spin, and cycle length within specified ranges);
- Start the mode and wait for it to finish.
You won't forget about the end of your wash cycle, as Samsung washing machines notify users with a beep when the cycle is complete. However, don't rush to remove the laundry from the drum. The locking device keeps the door locked for another 2-3 minutes after the end of the wash cycle.
Where should I pour powder and conditioner?
On the left side of the body is a powder drawer, also known as a dispenser. This is where you pour in/add conditioner, detergent, etc. To access the dispenser, simply pull it toward you.
To use the detergent correctly, consider several nuances:
- use only detergents that are suitable for your type and color of laundry;
- Consider the type of detergent depending on the type of washing (for automatic machines, for semi-automatic machines, for hand washing);
- For correct dosing, use a measuring cup;

- The dispenser has three compartments, each for a specific type of detergent. It's important to choose the right compartment. In Samsung washing machines, the left compartment holds the main detergent, the center compartment holds fabric softeners, bleaches, and rinse aids, and the right compartment is for pre-soak.
Please note! As an alternative to detergent, the household chemical market offers multi-component capsules, granules, tablets, or laundry wipes. These are placed directly into the drum rather than in the dispenser, but are quite expensive.
Take into account the basic recommendations
There are simple rules that can significantly extend the life of your washing machine. For high-quality washing without problems or breakdowns, follow these simple recommendations:
- Make it a rule to look at the instructions more often;
- don't neglect water softeners;
- Do not change programs during the washing process;

- after the cycle is complete, leave the hatch door slightly open;
- Do not use the top wall of the washing machine as a surface for heavy items.
Don't be afraid of your first wash in a Samsung washing machine. If you follow all the recommendations, follow the instructions, and pay close attention, the process will be trouble-free.
