Why is my dishwasher squeaking?
Sometimes users encounter a similar problem: after turning on the dishwasher, it performs a quick test of all systems, but does not start a program, instead emitting a characteristic beep. The beeping sound is repeated several times. What could be the causes of this behavior from your "home helper"? Where should you begin troubleshooting? Let's explore the nuances.
Does a squeak always indicate a breakdown?
Users are concerned about why their dishwasher is beeping. The beeping sound doesn't always indicate a malfunction. In some cases, it indicates a standard issue requiring human intervention. It's important to examine all possible causes and rule them out one by one.
A continuous beeping sound from your dishwasher may indicate:
- clogged waste filter;
- control module failure;
- activation of the leak protection system;

- heating element failure;
- the need to reflash the software;
- clogging of pipes;
- malfunction of the drain or circulation pump;
- bearing damage;
- lack of water in house communications.
A dishwasher often beeps when the dispenser is empty. Adding salt and rinse aid to the tank can solve the problem.
Experts recommend working from the simple to the complex, eliminating one cause after another. Trivial problems are ruled out first, and only then are the dishwasher components diagnosed. We'll explain what to do in such a situation.
There is no water supply to the PMM
A dishwasher doesn't always beep to indicate a problem. Sometimes the alarm indicates a water supply outage. Perhaps there's a water outage in your home, and that's why the machine can't start a cycle.
If you're turning off the shutoff valve on a pipe, make sure the valve is in the correct position. You may have simply forgotten to turn on the water supply.
PMMs equipped with a display not only beep, but also display the corresponding error code on the screen.
To figure out what fault your washing machine is indicating, consult the manual. Each error code is described there. By deciphering the error displayed on the dishwasher display, you can find out the cause of the unpleasant sound.
If you hear your dishwasher beeping immediately after starting, the first thing you should check is:
- is there water in the pipes;
- Is the dishwasher chamber overloaded with extra dishes?
- Is the device level?
Also, check underneath the machine; it may beep to indicate a leak. If the floor is dry, check to see if the dishwasher's salt and rinse aid reservoir is empty or if the waste filter is clogged.
The filter element is clogged with dirt, there are no funds
The dust filter in dishwashers often becomes clogged. It accumulates food particles, small debris, and grease. Experts recommend cleaning the dishwasher's filter element at least once every 2 months.
If you've noticed that your dishwasher is filling slowly with water, it's time to check the filter. You can find it by disconnecting the inlet hose. The filter is located at the inlet of the inlet valve.
Rinse the filter mesh under running warm water. If necessary, clean the holes with a brush. If dirt persists, soak the part in a citric acid solution for a couple of hours and then wipe with a sponge. Then reassemble all dishwasher components.
Be sure to check the salt and rinse aid reservoir. Sometimes the machine acts up because there's nothing in the reservoir. Fill the reservoir with special detergents; this will stop the sensors from reacting to the empty reservoir.
The door lock did not work
The dishwasher door is equipped with a door interlock. Information about its activation is transmitted to the main control module. Only after ensuring the system is sealed does the "brain" initiate the cycle.
If the door isn't locked, the machine won't fill with water. The control module, realizing the seal has been compromised, will interrupt the cycle. After a few minutes, the machine will beep, alerting the user of the malfunction.
In this situation, you can repair it yourself. Simply disconnect the power to the machine, unscrew the front panel, and remove the broken lock. The new lock is installed in the old unit's place.
The leak protection has been activated
Many dishwashers are equipped with the Aquastop system. This leakage protection feature is found on modern models from most manufacturers, including Siemens, Bosch, Hotpoint-Ariston, Candy, and Electrolux. When activated, the machine may beep.
Inspect the dishwasher's inlet hose. It has a block that acts as a safety mechanism. If there's a leak, the sensor changes color and turns red. If the machine is leaking from below, the Aquastop sensor, located in the tray, will be activated. Check for water; if there is, you've found the cause of the loud squeaking noise.
We continue to search for the problem
Try to analyze how the dishwasher was beeping and displaying an error. If water has filled the system but nothing happens, the circulation pump or heating element may be faulty. To check the components, you'll need to partially disassemble the dishwasher.
Both the pump and the heating element can be replaced yourself. Open the manual, find the location of the parts, and remove the faulty component. Then, install the new part. If the problem is in the control module, it's best to call a specialist for repairs.
