How to clean the filter in a Bosch washing machine

Cleaning the Bosch SM filterThe washing machine manual requires the user to clean the dust filter periodically, but how do you clean the filter in a Bosch washing machine? The procedure is simple, but there are some nuances that can be confusing for a novice user. We've decided to provide step-by-step instructions that will explain in detail where to find the dust filter, how to remove and clean it, and how to replace it. If you've been using a Bosch washing machine for a while, this article will be helpful.

Filter location

If you look closely at the front of your Bosch washing machine, you'll immediately notice the drain filter. In the vast majority of cases, it's located at the front, in the lower right corner of the machine. Older Bosch washing machines had a filter that protruded from the front, but now they all have a filter cover. Depending on the model of your front-loading Bosch washing machine, the filter may be located:

  • behind the rectangular hatch in the lower right corner of the body on the front wall of the machine, the hatch cover can be picked up with a fingernail, after which it will open easily;

  • behind the round hatch in the lower right corner of the machine body on the front wall, the hatch can be opened by lightly pressing on it;

  • Behind the narrow bottom panel, which is located under the front wall of the machine's body, the panel is secured with three plastic latches. These need to be released one by one.

Front-loading models also have a drain filter. It's located at the front of the machine in the lower left corner. They're hidden behind a round or square door and are removed in the same way as filters in front-loading machines.

Some rare Bosch washing machine models, produced before 2005, do not have waste filters at all. They simply weren't designed for this. In such machines, the swivel can become clogged, and cleaning it requires removing the lower decorative panel, the drain pan, and the hose. There are other ways to access the clogged swivel, but it's difficult.

Cleaning

Now that you've found the waste filter, it's time to start cleaning. First, tilt the washing machine back slightly so you can place a flat container underneath the front of the machine to catch the waste that will flow out of the filter housing.

  1. We put a small basin underneath.
  2. We open the lid that hides the filter.
  3. On the right, we see the filter itself; on the left, a short drain hose. We pull the hose out a few centimeters, remove the plug, and drain the dirty water into a basin.
  4. Now you can remove the filter. We need to unscrew the plug by turning it counterclockwise a few turns.

  5. The remaining water will flow into the basin through the hole that has formed, and you should inspect the inner surfaces of the niche and the filter itself for dirt and small foreign objects that may have accidentally fallen in there.
  6. Wipe the filter and seat with a cloth.
  7. We insert the filter back into the niche and screw it all the way clockwise.
  8. We close the hatch, take out the basin and place the machine in a stable position.

What if the filter doesn't unscrew?

On most Bosch washing machine models, the filter can be removed without any difficulty. However, there are cases where the filter simply won't come out, appearing firmly stuck in place and requiring a heavy tool to remove.

There's no point in breaking the machine by poking at the front filter. If it won't come out, try to partially remove the "capricious" part. disassembling a Bosch washing machine, namely, by removing its front panel. By removing the front panel of the housing, we gain access to the drain assembly: two pipes, the base of the drain hose, the pump, and the volute, which houses the "capricious" debris filter. First, disconnect the power to the washing machine, loosen the clamps on the pipes, remove the pipes, and remove the volute along with the filter and pump. Next, proceed as follows.

  1. We turn the removed snail with the fitting facing upwards.
  2. Move the pump clockwise until it stops.
  3. We squeeze out the stopper whisker.
  4. Turn the pump clockwise again and remove it.
  5. Having gained access to the internal cavity of the snail, we clean it and reassemble the block.

In this case, we were able to clean the filter without removing the part itself. To avoid having to disassemble the machine for repeated cleaning, soak the filter assembly and the filter in a lubricant like WD-40. This will oxidize the filter threads, making it easy to remove.
