Cleaning the Bosch Dishwasher Filter
After each cycle, dirt remains in the dishwasher. Food debris settles at the bottom of the wash chamber, clogging the dust filter. If you don't clean your dishwasher regularly, it will perform worse and may even fail completely.
We'll explain how to clean the filter in a Bosch dishwasher. We'll explain where the element is located and how often it should be cleaned. We'll also explain how to properly care for the dishwasher's working chamber.
We find and wash the filter element
Where is the unit that needs to be cleaned? All dishwashers have a waste filter. Bosch is located at the bottom of the bunker. Next to it is a rocker arm that sprays water. Finding the elements is easy: just open the dishwasher door, remove all the dish baskets, and look inside.
Before you begin cleaning the debris filter, disconnect the power from the Bosch dishwasher by unplugging the power cord from the outlet.
The further algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- Use a dry cloth to remove any remaining water from the bottom of the washing chamber;

- Turn the debris filter plug counterclockwise;
- carefully lift the filter cover;
- wash the part in warm water with the addition of dishwashing detergent (this will help get rid of grease deposits and unpleasant odors);
- Use a damp cloth to remove any dirt from the hole.
Avoid soaking plastic parts in water that's too hot, as this can cause them to warp. After cleaning, replace the filter. If you use your dishwasher daily, it's recommended to perform this procedure every two weeks.
Wash the filter regularly
As mentioned earlier, the dust filter must be cleaned regularly. If you use the dishwasher daily, clean it at least once every two weeks. Otherwise, the filter assembly will quickly become clogged, and the dishwasher will not function properly.
A clogged waste filter can impede water drainage from the bin. If the clog is severe, waste water may not be directed into the drain at all, but instead drain out the dishwasher door. Therefore, cleaning the element is essential.
To reduce residue in your machine after washing, be sure to scrape off any food debris from your dishes. Don't forget to remove toothpicks from plates and tea bags from mugs. Otherwise, the filter will clog even faster.
Food debris that accumulates in the filter is a breeding ground for bacteria. If the filter isn't cleaned, an unpleasant odor will soon begin to emanate from the bin. This problem is much more difficult to resolve. That's why regular cleaning is so important.
Caring for the washing chamber
The dishwasher compartment also needs to be cleaned periodically. Food residues and grease settle on the walls of the washing chamber. Also, limescale deposits form inside due to the tap water being too hard.
To clean the dishwasher's washing chamber, you can use special household chemicals or resort to "folk remedies."
If you don't have a special cleaning solution, you can use household cleaning products. You can clean the dishwasher compartment:
- a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and soda;
- a combination of vinegar and baking soda;
- citric acid.
In the first case, you'll need to mix 230 grams of baking soda and two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. Form the resulting paste into a ball and place it on the bottom of the dishwasher. Then run a high-temperature cycle (without dishes in the racks). This will remove any residue from the walls of the dishwasher.
In the second case, pour a glass of vinegar into the main compartment of the dishwasher's dispenser. Sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher's chamber. Then, start a long, high-temperature wash cycle. Once the water inside the dishwasher has heated up, pause the cycle; this can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on how dirty the container is. Once the timer has elapsed, resume the cycle.
If using citric acid, pour about 200 grams of the powder into the bottom of the hopper, removing the dish racks first. Then, start the daily wash program. Halfway through the cycle, pause the program and resume it after half an hour. Avoid using citric acid too frequently, as it can damage the rubber seals.
As for specialized cleaning products for dishwashers, they are available in stores. There are even formulations recommended by the manufacturer, Bosch. Use the products according to the instructions on the packaging.
