How to clean the filter in a Zanussi washing machine
Cleaning your washing machine's filter promptly can prevent many problems. Even a small clump of hair can clog a pipe or hose, block the impeller, or cause the pump to malfunction. All of this will quickly affect the machine's operation—an error message will appear on the display, the machine will stop draining, or the machine will not start the wash.
Preventing a malfunction or fixing an existing problem is easy – just find the part in question and clean it of debris. For Zanussi owners, all the instructions are provided below.
Why clean?
To prevent many breakdowns, it's essential to regularly clean the debris filter of accumulated dirt. Zanussi strongly recommends this procedure every three months, and if you wash wool or colorfast items, an unscheduled cleaning is required. More serious indications for an unscheduled cleaning of the drain system include the following:
- no drainage, full water tank at the end of the wash cycle or wet laundry;
- a corresponding error appeared on the screen;
- The washed laundry has an unpleasant musty smell.
Restarting the machine will not solve the above problems. Moreover, if you continue to use a dirty machine, it is easy to get the rubber gasket stuck to the snail and make it difficult to replace the filter. Moreover, it is not at all difficult to unscrew the part and clean it.
Where is the filter on front loading machines?
First, let's figure out where the drain filter is located on a Zanussi washing machine. If you have a front-loading model, just look at the bottom of the front panel. There's a long panel there, called the service hatch. Opening it is easy.
- We pry up one of the edges with a screwdriver.
- We press the latches.
- We remove the door.

Caution! Always follow safety precautions and disconnect the unit from the power supply, water supply, and sewerage system before performing any repairs.
It's best to stop here. If you start unscrewing the filter itself, water will pour out of the hole, and flooding is inevitable. We'll discuss further steps, preparations, and safety precautions below.
Where is the filter on a top loading appliance?
Removing the drain filter is also easy for owners of top-loading models. Simply lift the hatch cover, open the drum, and locate the plastic box hidden behind the door at the bottom of the tank. Insert your finger into the recess and release the latch. All that's left to do is pull the desired part out of the hole.
When searching for a filter, avoid rotating the drum with the flaps open. This will cause damage that will be difficult to fix yourself.
Description of the cleaning process
The filter cleaning process also varies depending on the machine type. For top-loading Zanussi models, the procedure requires no preparation: simply remove the dust container as described above, empty its contents, and rinse under high pressure.
With front-facing machines, things are more complicated. Owners will need to do the following:
- tilt the machine body slightly backwards;
- Place a container under the drain hole to collect water and cover the surrounding area with rags;
Important! It is not recommended to clean the filter immediately after the cycle ends, as the water will not have time to cool and could cause serious burns!
- remove water through the emergency drain hose located next to the filter (usually bright red or orange);
- unscrew the filter plug by turning the body of the part to the left by half a turn;
- If you can’t remove it by hand, you need to treat the surfaces and joints with WD-40 universal cleaner.
After successful removal, we proceed to the direct cleaning of the filter. First, we remove all the dirt from the body, and then we wipe off scale and rust from the walls and fins. For heavy soiling, it's recommended to soak the part in water with citric acid added at a ratio of 100 g per 1 liter. While you're at it, it's also recommended to inspect other components of the drainage system and remove debris from the volute, pump impeller, pipes, and hoses. Finally, screw the filter back in and close the access hatch.

How do you clean the filter on a zwq61225wi? That's the mystery!
My top loading Zanussi doesn't seem to have a filter.
It is in the body of the pump for pumping out water from the tank; you need to call a specialist and disassemble the body.
Which way do you turn this filter cover to open it?
