How to clean dirt under the cuff in an LG washing machine?

How to clean dirt under the cuff in an LG washing machineA door seal is essential in a washing machine. It helps seal the door tightly and prevents water from spilling out of the drum during a wash cycle. However, it has a downside: dirt constantly accumulates under the seal, which can lead to mold growth. Cleaning under the seal in an LG washing machine is difficult, especially if the problem is severe. Therefore, the sooner you start cleaning, the more time and effort you'll save.

How to remove light stains?

The cuff itself is very soft and has numerous indentations and folds, making it easy to see the condition of the space underneath. If the dirt is limited to plaque, cleaning it from underneath the cuff is easy. All you need to do is:

  • rag;
  • dishwashing liquid.

Important! You can use absolutely any dishwashing detergent; you don't even need to buy anything. However, avoid harsh and untested chemicals at all costs. Some substances, like Domestos, can damage the seal so much that it will need to be replaced.

Now, lightly dampen a cloth and squeeze a small amount of the product onto it. Wipe under the seal wherever you can reach with the cloth until a good lather forms. If you have trouble getting into any openings, simply pour a generous amount of dishwashing liquid into them. Leave the cleaner in this state for half an hour.dishwashing liquid and a rag

After this, close the door, select a long cycle (Cotton, for example), remove the spin cycle, set the temperature to high (60°C, but 95°C is ideal), and start the wash. The stains under the cuff will be gone in one go.

Removing black mold

Dishwashing liquid, of course, won't cope with black mold, but even in this case, complex household chemicals are of no use. It has been experimentally proven that ordinary, inexpensive chlorine bleach "Belizna" can cope with harmful spores inside the cuff. You'll also need a rag, a brush or sponge, and an empty household container. What do you need to do?Use bleach against mold

  • Pour bleach into a container, dip a sponge or brush into the solution, and begin gently applying it to the cuff and all the folds underneath, paying particular attention to areas where there's black mold. Don't worry about overdoing it; bleach dries quickly, and too much won't damage your machine.
  • After this, leave the washing machine for about half an hour. Keep in mind that the black mold won't disappear the first time, but will only turn slightly white. After 30 minutes, repeat the process and leave the machine for another period of time.
  • Repeat the wiping process until the mold is completely gone. This may take about 15 sessions, which, with breaks, will take a full day.

After treatment, a small amount of mold may remain in the tightest folds and seams of the cuff. In this case, you can either remove the rubber seal and treat the problem areas with bleach again, leaving them for a longer period of time, say, overnight. Alternatively, you can leave the cuff in place, generously douse the entire area with bleach, and run a long wash cycle at high temperature. This will completely eliminate the chance of black mold.
