How to lift a dryer alone

How to lift a dryer aloneWhenever users discover that dryers are much lighter than washing machines, they often decide to transport them themselves. However, this entails additional problems both during movement and installation, so we don't recommend it. However, if you find yourself in a situation where help is unavailable, we'll share how to properly lift and move a dryer alone without causing harm to yourself or the dryer.

How heavy is the dryer?

Just because a dryer is lighter than a washing machine doesn't mean it weighs no more than a bag of cotton wool. In fact, they are quite heavy devices, and their weight can vary significantly depending on the specific model. These include:

  • LG (El Gee) DC90V9V9W – 55 kg;
  • Gorenje (Burning) DE82/G – 50 kg;
  • Electrolux ("Electrolux") EW9H1R88SC - 48 kg;
  • Samsung (“Samsung”) DV90T5240AT – 47 kg;
  • Bosch ("Bosch") WTM83261OE - 39 kg;
  • Hotpoint-Ariston (“Hotpoint Ariston”) NT CM10 7B RU – 34 kg.Candy CS C10DBGX-07 tumble dryer

Besides these brands, there are others that weigh as much as 60-70 kilograms. Based on this information, it can be concluded that lifting such equipment alone is not recommended. Not only is it heavy, but it's also bulky: there's no secure grip, and grasping the body with your hands is simply awkward. However, experienced owners find a way around this problem and manage to move devices over fairly long distances without assistance.

Before you begin transporting your dryer, make sure the area where you plan to install it is prepared – this will avoid having to lift the heavy equipment twice!

Don't forget to check that all wires and hoses are disconnected from the unit before moving it away from the wall. To safely lift and move the unit, you'll need some tools, which we'll discuss below. Make sure you have all the necessary equipment before you begin.

How to Move a Dryer Alone

There are a variety of convenient tools available for transporting a heavy tumble dryer. A wheelbarrow is the most effective. Because it's so popular, it's easy to find. If you don't have one, you can always borrow one from a neighbor. Let's explore how to use a wheelbarrow.

This device consists of a trough, a steel frame with handles, and wheels. However, when it comes to transporting the dryer, we won't need the trough. First, grab a screwdriver and unscrew the screws that hold it in place. Remove this element and set it aside. Then, carefully inspect the frame: if there are any burrs or protruding screws, apply tape to these areas. Follow these steps:tumble dryer cart

  • take cling film and wrap it around the body of the machine;
  • we place the device on the frame of the wheelbarrow (there is no need to lift it, just move the device on its side and roll the wheelbarrow under it);
  • We secure the dryer using belts or the same tape.

This way, we can transport your dryer over long distances without any inconvenience or unnecessary stress. But this isn't the only transportation method. For another method, you'll need special straps to secure the load. Here's how:

  • take two belts and wrap them vertically around the unit so that the top cover and tray are secured;
  • Using carabiners, we secure the straps so that they do not slip off;
  • we approach the dryer, stand with our back to it and put our hands under the straps, as if we were going to put on a backpack;
  • We carefully lift the device onto our back and carry it.car behind the back

A healthy and strong man can easily handle this kind of weight on his shoulders. Although this method is more dangerous, it allows the dryer to be raised high enough for subsequent installation—for example, stacked on top of a washing machine. When you place the dryer, be sure to check that it is level. Don't forget to also connect all the necessary wires and check that the equipment is working properly.

As we've learned today, dryers, like other large appliances, can be heavy and bulky, creating challenges when installing and moving them. This task can be accomplished independently, provided you follow proper preparation and use the correct equipment. Always remember safety and minimize the risk of injury. If you feel the dryer is too heavy, consider having another person help you move it or seeking professional assistance.
