Can you machine wash a pregnancy pillow with balls?

A pregnancy pillow is a true lifesaver for expectant mothers, and it's also useful after childbirth during breastfeeding. However, long-term use is only possible with proper care. Sooner or later, you'll need to wash your pregnancy pillow with balls. Now's the time to find out how—by hand or in a washing machine.

Features of automatic pillow washing

According to the manufacturers, pillows filled with holofiber can be washed in a washing machine without any problems. Consumers have their own opinion: according to reviews from housewives, repeated cleanings in the washing machine left their marks, and the product lost its shape and color. But we are talking about frequent washings, and one-time spinning in the drum does not lead to deformation.

As a rule, expectant and nursing mothers don't overindulge in coffee near their pillow, so weekly washing is unlikely to be necessary. In this case, you can use a washing machine. Just follow a few rules:

• Before washing, examine the manufacturer's label and check the cleaning conditions;
• turn on the “Delicate” or “Manual” program;
• set the temperature no higher than 40 degrees;
• place the pillow in a special protective bag so that if the “shell” is damaged, the balls do not fill the drum (you can use a regular duvet cover);
• use liquid detergent or a gel capsule (dry powder granules may not dissolve completely and remain in the material, causing allergic reactions later);
• cancel the spin cycle (the pillow will not withstand the high-speed rotation of the drum);
• Dry the roller naturally in a horizontal position, shaking and turning it over periodically.

The pillow with holofiber balls can be washed on a delicate cycle at a temperature of up to 40 degrees and with minimal spinning.

If the stain is not removed using the above parameters, you'll have to take a different approach. Carefully rip the seam open by 5-10 cm and remove the balls. Then, wash the shell and filling separately, without worrying about high temperatures or concentrated detergents. Once everything is washed and dry, return the hollow fiber to its place, distribute it evenly, and sew it back up.

Traditional care of the product

The beauty of hollowfiber is that it doesn't accumulate dust or attract bacteria. Therefore, the pregnancy pillow doesn't require frequent, high-temperature machine washing. Furthermore, hand washing is sufficient to refresh the cushion.

Washing a pillow yourself isn't difficult. Here's how:

• we select a container proportionate to the pillow;
• fill the container with water heated to 30-40 degrees;
• add washing gel and lather (regular shampoo will do instead of detergent);
• soak for 40 minutes;
• gently press down, removing dirt.

There's no need to vigorously rub the pillow—just dip it in the soapy solution a few times. Once the stain is removed, you can proceed to rinsing. Never wring the pillow, as vigorous wringing will inevitably cause deformation. Dry it in the open air or in a ventilated area, turning it over periodically. Ideally, wrap the pillow in terry towels to absorb the moisture, then lay it out on a drying rack until completely dry.

To ensure your pillow lasts longer, it's important to take good care of it. This primarily concerns proper care, which will protect not only the pillow itself but also the health of the expectant mother. These considerations should be taken immediately after purchasing the pillow.

It's not recommended to use a newly purchased pillow. It's best to first wash the pillowcase using any convenient method: machine wash or hand wash. Ideally, use water heated to a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), as most materials, especially natural ones, don't tolerate high temperatures.

The next step is to fluff up the purchased pillow. If the product is filled with ecofiber, then without long-term whipping it will not be possible to achieve the expected softness, fluffiness and comfort U-shaped. The only exception are bolsters filled with polystyrene beads, which require little maintenance. Even after intense compression, polystyrene quickly regains its shape, becoming "battle-ready."

It's important to remember that pillows shrink with prolonged use and machine washing. However, shrinkage isn't a reason to throw away the pillow and buy a new one. It's cheaper to buy some hollow fiber and add some beads to the old filling. A pregnancy pillow can and should be washed. The key is to do it correctly.
