How to use a Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine
Proper operation is the key to a long life for any electrical appliance. If you use your Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine according to all the manufacturer's recommendations, it will serve you faithfully for many years. Let's look at how to install the machine, how to start it for the first time, and what washing algorithms are included in the memory of Ariston models.
Selecting the right program
After purchasing a washing machine, users are eager to try out their new "home assistant." However, there's no need to rush – the machine should sit at room temperature for a couple of hours straight from the store. Next, be sure to remove the shipping screws securing the drum and seal the resulting openings with plugs.
After this, the machine must be leveled and connected to the water supply, sewerage system, and electrical outlet. The washing machine's outlet must be moisture-resistant and grounded. Using an extension cord is prohibited.
Now you can move on to testing the washing machine. The first time you start the washing machine, it is done without laundry in the drum, but with cleaning agent. During the test cycle, the unit will be flushed from the inside.
The machine is now ready to wash your laundry. Hotpoint-Ariston models are programmed with a variety of algorithms for caring for different types of fabrics. The control panel of this Italian brand's washing machines is littered with icons, washing mode names, and graphic symbols for additional functions.
A detailed description of each washing program and all additional functions can be found in the equipment instructions.
To learn how to read the dashboard information, be sure to read the user manual. The instructions explain each symbol on the control panel. We'll explain the algorithms used on most Hotpoint-Ariston washing machines.
- Cotton. Standard algorithm for everyday use. Water temperature can be adjusted from 40°C to 90°C, depending on the type of items loaded into the drum. Cycle duration varies from 85 to 164 minutes, depending on the set wash temperature.
- Synthetics. Another universal mode designed for synthetic and blended items. Water temperature ranges from 40 to 60 degrees. Program duration is 75-85 minutes.
- Mix 30. This cycle is suitable for washing lightly soiled items. The cycle lasts 30 minutes and the water temperature is 30°C. Suitable for various fabric types.
- Mix 15. A program for refreshing almost clean laundry in cold water. Cycle duration: 15 minutes.
- Quick Wash 30 (60). These cycles are for lightly soiled laundry. The cycle runs for 30 or 60 minutes. The spin speed can be adjusted.
- Antibacterial. This algorithm is available for heavily soiled cotton items (lasting 165 minutes and heating water to 90°C) and for colored items (lasting 80 minutes and heating water to 60°C). Spinning is performed at maximum speed, but can be disabled.
- Night mode. When activated, the machine operates virtually silently. The cycle lasts almost 5 hours.
- Children's clothes. This cycle is designed for washing items made of various materials. Water is heated to 40°C. The cycle lasts 2 hours.
- Silk. Delicate cycle with water heated to 30°C. Suitable for washing delicate, sensitive fabrics. The cycle lasts 55 minutes.
- Wool. Special care cycle for wool garments. Wash in cold water, spin at minimum speed. Cycle duration: 55 minutes.

Hotpoint-Ariston machines also feature various auxiliary functions, such as:
- "My program";
- "Extra rinse";
- "Soak";
- "Drain";
- "Self-cleaning";
- "Delayed start" and others.
Before starting the cycle, be sure to sort your laundry. Check the label on each item—it tells you what fabric it's made of and what temperature it can be washed at. It also tells you which wash cycle to use.
For example, a wool sweater shouldn't be washed on the "Cotton" cycle. This material won't withstand high temperatures and will inevitably become misshapen. The ideal cycle in this case is "Wool."
Let's start washing
Before using your washing machine, be sure to read the instructions for the machine. They'll explain in detail how to properly start the wash cycle. The procedure is as follows:
- Plug the power cord into the socket (the cord must be connected directly, the use of an extension cord is prohibited);
- Load a batch of laundry into the drum and close the door tightly;
- Pour powder or gel into the detergent drawer;

- use the programmer to set the desired washing mode;
- adjust cycle settings if necessary (water temperature, spin speed);
- enable additional features if required;
- Press the Start/Pause button.
It is important not to exceed the maximum permissible load weight of laundry set by the manufacturer.
After pressing the "Start" button, the washing machine will begin filling with water. The machine will run for the specified time, determined by the program settings. The machine will sound a signal when the cycle is complete.
We clean internal parts automatically
Proper operation requires periodic maintenance of the washing machine. Simply wiping the body after each use and airing it out isn't enough. The manufacturer recommends cleaning the washing machine's debris filter and descaling its internal parts every 2-3 months.
Debris accumulates inside a washing machine for various reasons. The main ones are:
- poor quality of tap water;
- lint and threads separated from the laundry during the washing process;
- foreign objects (pieces of paper, rubber bands, checks) forgotten in the pockets of things;
- poor quality detergents.
All debris settles on the internal parts of the machine. Tap water that is too hard promotes scale buildup. Some Hotpoint-Ariston washing machines feature a self-cleaning mode. To activate the self-cleaning mode, follow these steps:
- make sure that the washing machine drum is empty;
- connect the machine to the power supply;
- open the detergent drawer and pour in a special cleaning agent (preferably a multifunctional one that can not only clean the inside of the washing machine, but also deal with scale, mold, and mildew);
- press the “Quick wash” and “Extra rinse” buttons (the display should show the following symbols: AUE→UEO→EOC).
If everything is done correctly, the washing machine will make a distinctive sound, lock the door, and begin filling with water. During the self-cleaning process:
- limescale is removed;
- pipes are cleaned;
- the drum is disinfected;
- The fight against mold and other harmful microorganisms is carried out.
It is recommended to run the “Self-Cleaning” mode once every 3 months – this is enough to maintain the cleanliness of the washing equipment.
This mode extends the life of your automatic washing machine and directly impacts its performance. If the inside of the washing machine is free of dirt, your laundry will be perfectly clean after washing. The debris filter is also manually cleaned.
Basic rules for operating the machine
There are several basic rules that are important to follow if you don't want to buy a new washing machine in 2-3 years because the old one will break down. We'll explain what these recommendations are.
- Place the washing machine only on a flat, solid surface.
- Do not exceed the maximum load capacity specified by the manufacturer.
- Buy only high-quality laundry detergents and follow the dosage instructions.
- Turn the program selector strictly clockwise (it also turns in the other direction, but this is not good for the equipment).
- Don't forget to clean the debris filter approximately every 2-3 months.

- After each use, leave the powder container and hatch door slightly open for ventilation.
- Always sort your laundry before washing and check the pockets of your clothes.
- If your clothes have zippers, buttons, or rivets, be sure to fasten them before loading them into the machine.
- Wipe the drum seal to remove moisture after each use of the washing machine – this will prevent the formation of mold.
- Wash underwear in special bags.
- It is advisable not to wash clothes with numerous decorative elements in a washing machine.
- If your water is hard, use special rinses and softeners to prevent scale formation.
During operation, your Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine may display an error code corresponding to a specific problem. In this case, you should immediately identify the error and take all possible measures to resolve the issue. You can find out what fault the machine is indicating by consulting the manual.
