How to clean a tumble dryer

How to clean a tumble dryerRegularly cleaning your dryer is the best way to keep it in good condition. The simple truth is: the better you care for your dryer, the longer it will last. This applies even to premium models, which are capable of many things, but they can't yet clean themselves from various types of dirt. So, you'll need to help them with this process. Today, we'll look at how to properly clean your dryer and get rid of unpleasant odors.

What and how to clean?

If you have a condensation dryer and the condensate collection container isn't connected to the drain hose, you'll need to empty it manually after each cycle. Otherwise, the accumulated liquid will lead to bacteria buildup, unpleasant odors, and further disrupt the drying process. After removing the liquid, it's a good idea to rinse the container itself. Follow these steps:

  • remove the container collecting condensate;
  • get rid of the water that has accumulated in it;
  • rinse the container under running water;
  • Dry thoroughly and return to its original place.Why is there so much dust in the dryer?

This will ensure it stays clean and functions properly. Equally important is the fact that every dryer accumulates lint over time. Wool, cotton, and synthetic fibers easily clog vents, fill the air ducts, and accumulate under the drive belt and around other components. To prevent this, it's important to regularly clean the duct system and the lint filter. It's recommended to do this manually, as a vacuum cleaner can damage the components with its powerful suction.

If the contamination is severe, rinse the filter under water and then dry it thoroughly before putting it back in place!

Cleaning your dryer is extremely simple: just remove dirt from the body with regular soapy water and a soft cloth. Just remember to rinse off the solution afterward and then blot away any excess. Remember to avoid using harsh household chemicals or melamine sponges to clean the unit, as this will damage the enamel.

Keep the evaporator clean

The dryer's evaporator coil needs to be cleaned approximately once a month, especially if you use the machine frequently. If you use the dryer every 4-5 days, you can increase this interval.

This is essential because a dust-clogged element will not only prolong the drying time but also cause the appliance to malfunction. Furthermore, dirt often causes an unpleasant odor. To eliminate it, you will need to:Cleaning the dryer heat exchanger

  • de-energize the dryer;
  • cover the floor around the device with rags in case water spills out of it when the element is removed;
  • find the door of the technical hatch, behind which the heat exchanger is located (the location will depend on the model of the car, usually it is at the bottom of the body, in the front);
  • open the door and turn the two locking levers towards each other;
  • remove the top cover of the heat exchanger;
  • pull out an element.

After all these manipulations, the heat exchanger is washed under running water and, if necessary, wiped with a napkin. Do not use brushes or sponges with an abrasive surface, as they may damage the parts. Don't forget to also pay attention to the heat exchanger's mounting surface and the rubber seal. There's no need to wait for the element to dry completely; simply let the water drain. Then, you can replace the element, close the lid, and return the locking levers to their original positions.

An unpleasant smell is coming from the dryer

If you've noticed an unpleasant odor emanating from your unit, don't worry. There's an effective way to get rid of it. This method is especially effective if you thoroughly clean the unit beforehand. This requires cleaning the lint filter, rinsing the drain hose, and removing dust from the heat exchanger.

A citric acid solution will help eliminate unpleasant odors in your dryer. Take 100 grams of the acid and pour it into a 200 ml glass. Then fill the glass to the brim with boiling water. Stir the solution and cool to room temperature. Then, soak a clean cloth in the solution and apply it:the dryer smells bad

  • inner surface of the drum;
  • filter seat;
  • heat exchanger installation area;
  • other internal surfaces that are in close proximity.

At the end of the cycle, wait until the machine is completely dry, then run a cycle with a small load of laundry. These steps will eliminate odors in 90% of cases. Remember to clean your dryer with the power off, and remember that the dryer always operates at high temperatures. Therefore, allow it time to cool before cleaning. Regular cleaning will ensure your dryer remains in good working order for many years.
