Finish Dishwasher Powder
A high-quality dishwashing detergent is essential for leaving your dishes clean and sparkling. There are so many options, choosing the right one can be challenging. Many people prefer to save money and opt for multi-purpose tablets, while others prefer to save money and buy powder. This article will focus on powder from Finish.
Description of Finish dishwasher detergent
Finish dishwasher detergents for all types are, without exaggeration, the most popular because they're the most advertised. Some dishwasher manufacturers recommend Finish as the best and highest-quality product. Let's take a look at the ingredients to find out what makes this brand's detergent so special:
- Tripolyphosphoric acid salts make up about 30% of all substances, and it is thanks to them that fats are removed;
- oxygen-containing bleach is no more than 5% and is necessary for removing tea stains and other contaminants;
- surfactants for foam formation;
- enzymes – enzymes that promote the breakdown of protein and carbohydrate stains at low temperatures;
- flavorings.
Overall, it is a standard composition, which, by the way, does not contain phosphates, which are currently positioned as unsafe compounds.
In addition to the above, the powder may contain a special substance called StainSoaker by the manufacturer, which literally translates as “stain remover”. Apparently, thanks to the presence of this stain remover, the powder copes with stubborn lipstick and coffee stains. This substance also penetrates deep into dried stains, dissolving them and leaving dishes clean.
The first Finish powder to appear on our market was imported from Germany. Currently, there are packages of powder from Denmark, Poland, and Finland. Powders are packaged in plastic boxes of varying weights: 1; 1.5; 2; 2.5 kg. Here are a few examples:
- Finish Classic, 1 kg – powder with a soaking effect, average price $4.50;
- Calgonit Finish Classic, 2.5 kg – German-made powder for all types of dishwashers, costing about $11;
- Calgonit Finish Lemon, 2.5 kg – German-made dishwasher powder with a lemon scent and a price of about $10.
How to use correctly
Any dishwasher detergent, including Finish, must be dosed, not added by eye. Use a measuring cup or spoon. 20-25g of detergent is sufficient for one load. The detergent drawer in many dishwashers is located on the inside of the door. In the photo the compartment is marked with the symbol "D".
If you need to use the pre-soak function, you can add an additional 5 g of detergent to the compartment marked "C." This dosage is average and suitable for full-size dishwashers with a full load. To determine how much detergent you need, experiment with the load, the degree of soiling of the dishes, and the hardness of your tap water, as water hardness varies from person to person, and therefore the required dosage will vary. You may find that 15 g of detergent is sufficient for a tabletop dishwasher. Don't worry, after a few washes, you'll automatically adjust to the correct amount.
It is very important to use along with the powder regenerating salt and rinse aid. Salt will help restore the ion exchanger's ability to soften the water. Rinse aid is needed to ensure your dishes shine, dry better, and avoid streaks and drips.
Important! Only a combination of all three products—finish powder, rinse aid, and salt—will provide the best cleaning results in your dishwasher.
Is it worth using: consumer opinions
Whether or not to buy Finish's powder is entirely up to you. Once you've tried this powder, we think we've tried everything. Here's what consumers say about it:
Eleanor, Khabarovsk
Over the four years we've had our dishwasher, my husband and I have tried various detergents. The main criteria for us are price and the absence of an aftertaste on the dishes. We really like the tablets, but sometimes we also buy Finish powder, 1 kg.
The powder packaging is very convenient; just pour the powder in by eye, following the markings on the compartment. It's difficult to say how much one kilogram will last, as we alternate between tablets. The cleaning results are excellent, leaving no aftertaste on the dishes. We only use salt with the detergent.

When I bought my dishwasher, I thought I'd use it very rarely. But that's not the case: I use it every day, sometimes twice. At first, I used tablets, but over time it became clear that they were incredibly expensive and consumed a lot of detergent. I decided to try detergent, and, of course, following the advertising, I chose Finish, which is recommended by many dishwasher manufacturers. A 2.5 kg package of lemon-scented detergent cost me about $7.
Pouring the detergent into the compartment is very convenient, as there's a special spout on the packaging. Furthermore, the manufacturer doesn't fill the entire container, leaving room for the powder to pour freely. Even though the detergent is scented, it leaves no odor on dishes or in the dishwasher.
I pour a generous amount of detergent into the compartment. After one attempt to save money, I had to wash the dishes by hand. So I decided there was no way to skimp on the amount. I almost always use the long cycle at 70 degrees Celsius, and the dishes are cleaned well. The only thing that doesn't get completely clean is the bottom of the multicooker pot—it leaves a white residue. I haven't seen any other residue anywhere else. As for consumption, I'm in my third month of using a 2.5 kg bottle, and about half of it remains, which should last another two months. I recommend it to everyone, even though it's a bit pricey, and I'll try another detergent myself for comparison.

I've been using a miracle machine for two years now, and I absolutely adore it. Today, I decided to share my impressions of Finish detergent for various types of dishwashers. I bought it by chance, at a discount. I hadn't used the Finish brand before, even though most dishwasher owners prefer it. Finish products are very expensive, and there are detergents for other brands that are cheaper and clean just as well.
I only bought Finish detergent because it was on sale. The 2.5 kg canister lasted me several months. There's a spout for pouring the detergent, but for some reason it's very difficult to open. The cleaning results are excellent, and the detergent leaves no odor, which is key. Overall, I was happy with the purchase, and if there's another sale, I'll definitely buy Finish for washing machines.
In conclusion, it's worth noting that using dishwasher powder is much more cost-effective than tablets; consumers even report better cleaning results. It's up to you to decide which brand to use, whether it's Finish or another brand, as long as it gets the job done.
