Indesit washing machine manufacturer
Many people are under the impression that the majority of washing machines available on the Russian market are assembled in China or Russia, and that European-assembled machines are extremely rare.
Even well-known brands like Bosch and LG are assembled in Russia. But what about washing machines like Indesit? Where are they manufactured, and where do they come from? That's what we'll find out.
Brand history
The development of Indesit is inextricably linked with Ariston, which predates Indesit. Production of household appliances under the Indesit brand began in 1975. At that time, the Merloni company, founded in the 1930s, was already enjoying success in Italy. Indesit's success attracted Merloni's son, who acquired the brand in 1989 and consolidated its operations.The main office is still located in Italy.
The first Italian-assembled washing machines appeared in our country in 1993. And these were indeed washing machines assembled in Italy. Today, Indesit has offices in France, China, Poland, Slovakia, and Portugal. Therefore, finding an Indesit washing machine assembled in Italy is quite difficult. To avoid being misled or tricked by the seller, check the documentation included with the product; it should indicate the true country of manufacture.
Important! The barcode on a washing machine cannot be used to determine the country of manufacture, as it indicates the brand's country of origin.
Pros and cons
Italian washing machines are quite popular in our country; they're even imported from Europe second-hand. What are their advantages and disadvantages? The advantage of these machines is that:
- they have high build quality and a long service life (at least 8 years of trouble-free operation);
- their price is affordable for different categories of the population;
- have wide choice of programs for different types of clothing, even budget models, Competitors' washing machines with a similar set of programs are significantly more expensive, especially German-made machines;
- They have a time-saving washing function called Eco Time, and many models have it.
As for the drawbacks, they primarily revolve around the difficulty of repairs should they become necessary. Firstly, the Indesit washing machine's drum is non-removable, meaning that if the bearings wear out, it will take a lot of effort to remove them. Secondly, service center specialists note that the temperature controller often breaks. And thirdly, they only offer partial leak protection.
Please note! Spare parts for Indesit washing machines are easy to find, so repairs should be hassle-free.
Range of models
Indesit's washing machine range includes over 20 models with varying features and load capacities. It's worth noting that the manufacturer offers not only standard-sized front-loading washing machines but also top-loading machines and compact models. These compact washing machines fit perfectly in a small bathroom and are often installed under the sink.
It should be noted that most washing machines of this brand are economy class machines, but at the same time with a good range of programs. Of course, there are machines with advanced features. It's worth noting that Indesit machines have a useful program for washing sportswear and shoes.
According to a user survey, the most popular brand representatives were:
- Indesit WIUN 81 is a narrow machine with a 4 kg load capacity and 15 washing modes, one of the cheapest in its class, the average price is about $215;
- Indesit IWDC 6105 is a standard machine with a 6 kg load capacity, a distinctive feature of drying up to 5 kg of laundry and only for $500;
- The Indesit IWE 7105 B has a 7 kg load capacity, making it suitable for washing bulky items. This model features standard dimensions, a wide range of programs, including an express mode, and an average price of $318.
- The Indesit NSD 808 LS is a washing machine with a dry laundry capacity of 8 kg. It differs little from the previous model, except for the load capacity and dimensions. This model is slim. The average price is $338.
Please note! All models listed have the highest washing class A.
Reviews
Reviews of washing machines from this brand are quite mixed. Some note the high build quality and excellent washing results. Some complain about frequent breakdowns, especially bearings that wear out quickly and control boards that burn out. Most likely, it's owners of Chinese Indesits, not Italian ones, who are reporting problems. Here are some reviews from real people.

After our washing machine broke, we searched for a suitable one for a long time and finally settled on the Indesit NSL 605 L S. This narrow washing machine with a 6 kg load capacity was completely satisfactory, especially for the price, as we got it on sale for $120. It's quiet and washes excellently. The only drawback is the lack of a timer to show how much laundry remains in the wash cycle. I highly recommend this machine.

We bought a washing machine We bought an Indesit NSL 705 LS and were disappointed with it after just three months. The machine stopped heating water. A technician came under warranty and replaced the heating element with a new one. What surprised me was that the burnt-out heating element was covered in rust, as if it were old, not new. A year later, the machine stopped spinning altogether. This model does not have an emergency drain hose, and it is not possible to drain the water through the filter, unless you simply pour it on the floor. The machine also hums as if it were taking off. But it does a good job of washing efficiently. That's why I can only give it a 3.

I discovered the Indesit NSL 705 LS washing machine when I bought it for a friend as a housewarming gift. They were very pleased; it has everything they needed. The only downside is the noise; you can't run the washer overnight, especially in a studio apartment. It washes perfectly, and the spin cycle is good, too. All in all, it's a good model.

I've been washing clothes in an Indesit WIU 82 washing machine for five years now, and I've never had a problem. The filter got clogged once, but I cleaned it myself. The machine is compact, so it holds a small load. It stops during the spin cycle because the laundry gets clumped unevenly, so I straighten it out by hand every time. Overall, it washes well.
In conclusion, we'd like to point out once again that the only Indesit washing machines we've encountered on the Russian market are those assembled in Russia and Slovakia (top-loading models). Italian-assembled machines are only available in Italy or used. But is it worth paying extra for a used machine that comes with no instructions or a guarantee of proper operation?

We had a genuine Italian-made washing machine for about eight years. It never even stuck a button. I adored it! It was a smart one. But it broke so badly that the bearing in the drum completely fell out. Now it's Russian-made. Even the sellers advise against it. They launch Russian spaceships, but they'd rather not use them for household appliances and cars.
Agree!!!
We have an Italian-made Indesit, and it's been in service for 13 years. Six months ago, the shock absorbers just blew out. After replacing it, it's as good as new; nothing has changed at all, neither the operation nor the appearance. 🙂
The first one lasted exactly 7 years, and the control unit, motor, and heating element burned out almost simultaneously, meaning it was beyond repair. The second one has been working for 5 years now.
Our Indesit 4 kg washer has been working for 7 years. It's like new. We add citric acid along with the detergent when washing. It's a great machine.
I have an Indesit WDN867WF 5kg washer-dryer. I bought it over 20 years ago. Everything still works flawlessly. The only downside is that the black metal tank, coated with ceramic enamel, has rusted. It's a shame, as it's a very good machine. Can anyone suggest a replacement tank?
We've had an Indesit for 21 years! And knock on wood. What's the replacement? Let us know!
Whirlpool is assembled in Slovakia! They bought Indesit and produce front-loading units under their own brand and top-loading units under the Indesit brand. All Indesit front-loading units will be assembled in Russia.
A friend of mine has also had a washing machine for over 20 years.
Eduard. My husband sealed the gas tank with Russian-made automotive sealant a year ago, and it doesn't leak. The car is also 20 years old.
We bought an Indesit washing machine in 2006. It was only this summer that we had something done to the engine. Although a new motor would have been preferable. We at least washed something twice a week. Back then, I think they were already assembled in our factory.
