How to test the Hall sensor on an LG washing machine?

How to test the Hall sensor on an LG washing machineSeveral signs indicate a faulty tachometer in an LG washing machine. The drum may either stop moving or, conversely, spin uncontrollably. LG washing machines with direct drive are equipped with an inverter motor, so the tachometer is slightly different from those found on machines with a brushed motor. Let's look at how to test the Hall sensor, what this element is, and where it is located.

Inspection progress

To access the tachometer sensor on an LG washing machine, you need to disassemble the appliance. First, turn off the power and disconnect the washing machine from the house's utility lines. Then, move the machine to a location where it will be easy to disassemble. It's important to ensure easy access to the rear panel. Follow these steps:

  • Unscrew the bolts holding the back wall of the case, remove it and put it aside;
  • Using a 17 mm wrench, unscrew the rotor screw (it is important to ask someone to hold the drum from the inside to prevent it from rotating);remove the back panel of the LG SM
  • remove the electric motor rotor;
  • Using a 10 mm socket, unscrew all the bolts holding the stator assembly (when removing the last screw, hold the stator with your hand so that the element does not fall off and fall);
  • Disconnect the fasteners and connectors from the assembly.

This will give you access to the Hall sensor. You don't need to disconnect the component to diagnose any problems. You can check the tachometer's functionality using a multimeter. It is necessary to set the resistance of the device to 20 kOhm and attach the probes to outputs 1 and 5, then to 2 and 5.

The multimeter screen should display a value from 5 to 15 kOhm; if the resistance is less, the Hall sensor will have to be replaced.

Removing and installing the sensor

If a faulty tachometer sensor is detected, the only solution is to replace the part with a new one. First, remove the old Hall sensor by loosening the special latch with a flat-blade screwdriver. It's important to proceed carefully to avoid damaging the fasteners and contacts. Once the fastener is loosened, carefully remove the tachometer from its slot.

When removing the Hall sensor, be careful not to damage the latch on the stator, otherwise this will significantly increase the cost of repairs.

It's best to bring the old sensor with you to the store; this will help you choose the right part. When ordering online, be very careful and pay attention to the product markings. Also check the purchased tachometer sensor with a multimeter to ensure that the new part is in good working order. Often, defective components are sold in retail outlets, so it wouldn't hurt to be careful.We check the Hall sensor with a multimeter

Now you can begin installing the Hall sensor. Insert the element so that its recesses completely align with the guides on the stator. Gently press on the tachometer sensor until you hear a distinctive click. Then, remove all components.LG direct drive washing machine Install in reverse order. Once the washing machine is assembled, connect it to the water supply and sewer system, and plug it into the power outlet. Test the appliance for proper operation.

    It's written very clearly. Thanks to this, I didn't end up cheated and did everything myself. I need more explanations like this. Thank you.

    What if the motor doesn't have a Hall sensor?
