How to test a washing machine without connecting it to the water
Testing the washing machine's programs is only possible when connected to a water supply. However, the question arises: how to test a washing machine upon purchase or upon delivery? Failure to do so could result in a faulty product. Testing a washing machine requires special attention, and let's discuss how.
What needs to be checked?
The first inspection of your washing machine should take place at the store where you buy it. You should check:
- the body for damage and defects;
- drum;
- operability when connected to the network;
- the presence of a warranty card and its correct completion.
When the washing machine is delivered, store employees also check:
- availability of all components;
- legs;
- integrity of the drain and inlet hose;
- the presence of transport bolts in their places;
- the body for defects.
If you'll be delivering the machine to your home yourself, please pay attention to the above points immediately upon purchase.
External examination
When choosing a washing machine in the store, first inspect it from all sides. The machine's body should be free of scratches, dents, and ingrained stains and dirt. Inspect the drum door, closing and opening it. It should close securely and open easily. Check the gasket for damage.
Be sure to check the detergent drawer; try removing it and inspecting it. Smell the opening underneath the drawer. A new machine shouldn't have any odor. A used machine might smell like detergent or fabric softener. But if you smell mold or another putrid odor, then you shouldn’t buy such a machine.
When inspecting the outside of the washing machine, don't forget to pay attention to the drum. Its interior surface should be perfectly smooth to prevent rips when washing delicate and silk items. This can be checked using a nylon stocking. Put it on your hand and run it over the drum surface. If the stocking remains intact and free of snags, everything is fine. Also, rotate the drum by hand to check how it rotates, whether there is any play, whether it is properly centered, and whether the bearings are in good condition.
Important! Inspect the buttons on the control panel and try pressing them. They shouldn't stick.
When you deliver your washing machine, immediately check for the presence of the shipping bolts; these are the only bolts the machine could have been delivered to you with. Check to see if the shipping bolts have been removed; it may have been repaired. Also, check that all the feet are present and intact. If you buy a used washing machine, you can ask them to inspect the hoses. Hardened pipes may soon burst, and then repairs cannot be avoided.
Checking documents and components
The next step is checking the components. In this case, the presence of the drain and filler hoses is checked. Check in advance whether the factory hose is long enough or whether you should buy a longer one. Plastic plugs for the holes for the shipping bolts should also be included with the car.
The washing machine's documentation includes the manual and warranty card. The card must indicate the purchase date and be stamped. Without this document and any other components, warranty repairs will be denied.

We are checking the functionality
You can't test a washing machine's functionality in a store, but you can check the operation of its individual components. This doesn't require a water connection. First, check to see if the machine works when plugged in. Select the "Spin" mode and observe the drain pump and drum rotation. This method (without water) won't check whether the heating element is working, but it can determine if the pump is starting.

Important! Don't run your washing machine at home in the presence of the delivery person in winter; wait until the appliance has warmed up indoors.
The unit's continued functionality should be checked after connecting it to the water supply, testing the machine in different modes. The sooner a serious malfunction is identified, the better your chances of getting your money back or exchanging it for a similar one.
If you thoroughly inspect your washing machine according to our recommendations, you'll reduce the risk of buying a low-quality product. For more details on inspecting a used washing machine before purchasing, read the article. How to choose a used washing machine. Happy shopping!
