Checking the washing machine pressure switch – level relay
The pressure switch, also known as a level sensor or level relay, is a washing machine component responsible for controlling the amount of water added to the drum. If this component fails, the machine will likely be unable to run any wash cycles, as they require a specific amount of liquid at different stages. Regulating the water level is crucial for the machine's operation.
All automatic washing machines made today have a water level sensor. It can monitor the amount of water in the drum, taking into account the volume of laundry being washed.
What are the consequences of a faulty pressure switch?
Typically the malfunction begins to manifest itself in the following ways:
The machine collects too much water in the tank.
Or, on the contrary, the washing machine fills with very little water.
Also, the washed items may not be wrung out properly enough.
Another possible situation is when there's no water in the drum, but the washing machine thinks there is and turns on the heating element. This can cause it to overheat and fail.
Where can I buy a level relay?
If you decide to replace the level sensor, it is advisable to use a pressure switch from the same manufacturer as your washing machine. In service centers and specialized stores you can find the widest range of various parts.
If the spare part is not in stock, you can order it. In this case, you'll have to wait a while for it to be delivered from the manufacturer's warehouse or factory. Many brands of this type of appliance are available on the market today:
Ariston,
Siemens,
Indesit,
Bosch,
Hansa,
Zanussi,
Daewoo,
ElGi,
Candy,
Atlas,
And others.
All of these manufacturers have their own factories and service centers that handle issues related to their brands of washing machines. Don't worry, if your machine is more or less modern, you should be able to find the right part.
There are also different types of water level sensors for different series of household appliances. These sensors differ in their functionality. One of the most commonly used types of water level switches is the three-pin type. Two-chamber water level sensors are less common.
In order to purchase the exact pressure switch that is suitable for your machine, you will need to remember (or write down) the manufacturer and series name.
How to test a water level sensor?
To test the water level sensor relay, you need to disconnect the hose. To do this, you'll need to access the pressure switch. First, turn off the power. That is, unplug it from the outlet. Then, remove the top part of the washing machine. This is also called the lid. The lid is secured with two screws on the back of the machine. After unscrewing them, you'll need to slightly push the lid back from the front of the machine. After this, it will easily come off. On most washing machines, the pressure switch is located on one of the walls of the machine, close to the top.
Once you reach the level sensor, you'll need to disconnect it from the hose. The hose is secured with a clamp. The clamp can be removed with pliers or simply by hand. In its place, attach the small hose you prepared earlier. Then try blowing into it. But not too hard.
You may hear a clicking sound when the contacts engage. The number of clicks will depend on how many water levels your washing machine allows for different programs.
You should also inspect the tubes and ensure they are not damaged. If any damage is present, the tubes need to be replaced. Also, carefully inspect the water level switch contacts. If they are dirty, they should be cleaned. If they are stuck, the best option is to install a new level sensor.
If the pressure switch is faulty, it's easier to replace it. A new one is usually quite inexpensive. And the replacement itself is very simple. To make it easier for you, we've included a video on how to replace the pressure switch yourself:
Hello, my Candy C2 085R washing machine drains on every cycle, the level sensor is blown, and the contacts are clicking. What other problems could be associated with constant draining on absolutely every cycle? Thanks in advance!
By default, the water drain hose is attached to the back of the machine using a loop. There's no need to unscrew it and place it on the floor. This is often the simple reason why water constantly drains during any cycle.
If water is constantly draining, the semiconductor that turns on the pump may be faulty. I once encountered a situation where water was draining due to a dirty door lock contact (it was a very old Indesit without displays or self-diagnostics).
The pressure switch clicks the first time (it should stop the water supply), but it doesn't. As the pressure increases, it clicks a second time and the water drain valve opens. The water drains and refills.
Hello. My Gorenje WS43121 washing machine doesn't always fill with water. It drains while filling. The program doesn't start, and there's no spin. Sometimes, instead of smoothly rotating back and forth, the motor jerks suddenly and stops. The display alternates between error 3 and error 4. I removed and checked the pressure switch. When I blow into the pressure switch, I hear a clicking sound, and when I stop blowing, I hear another clicking sound. Is the pressure switch intact, and where should I look for a fault?
Do all the recommendations apply to the same type of pressure switch? There's a different type of pressure switch (for example, the VEKO SM). It seems to me that it doesn't close the contacts.
The washing machine isn't rinsing properly, even after 5 washes. There's still a lot of suds left, even though the pump is new and the hoses aren't clogged. Could the pressure switch be the problem?
Too much detergent and infrequent cleaning are the cause. You have a lot of deposits from the detergent, and even if you run a wash without detergent, a lot of foam will come from these deposits. Try a triple cleaning cycle: 1) a wash cycle without laundry, no rinse, and instead of detergent, use 1/2 packet of baking soda. 2) the same cycle, but instead of detergent, use citric acid (dissolve 3 small packets in a liter of boiling water). 3) another cycle with rinse, but instead of detergent, use 1/2 packet of baking soda (to remove residual acidity from the citric acid). Baking soda pre-loosens the deposits, making them porous and improving their solubility with acid. All professional descaling products are made with baking soda, but they are several times more expensive. Cleaning cycles should not be done too often; once or twice a year.
If your washing machine isn't rinsing well, especially since you're reporting a lot of foam, it's likely you're using a low-quality detergent or you're using too much, as washing machine detergents contain an antifoaming agent. To avoid excessive foaming, excess foam can get on the control board and other live parts of the machine when the drum spins at high speeds. Therefore, the first step is to reduce the amount of detergent to a minimum. However, if you still experience excessive foaming, it's likely you've purchased a low-quality detergent or one designed for hand washing.
Good afternoon! When I turn on my Hotpoint Ariston ARMXXD 1297 washing machine with the drying mode selected, the water fills and the drum spins for 2-3 seconds. Then, the indicator lights for all the buttons on the bottom row flash on the display, and error code F08 appears. The drum stops, but the program sounds continue. This occurs in all modes, including drying. The problem occurred while washing a down jacket with shampoo. There was a lot of foam. Could this be the cause? Thank you!
Indesits (Ariston is also an Indesit) have poor electronics. This error can be caused by faulty filter capacitors, a short-circuit pump, or even a software glitch. The control module lacks galvanic isolation from the power grid, and is clocked at 50Hz from the power grid... This electronic junk is also sold at an exorbitant price! Basically, the Italians are making a killing off ignorant buyers.
Hello! Could you please tell me, my grandmother has this machine, and she's very used to it and doesn't want a new one. It's a Zanussi IZ-12 washing machine with the JetSistem system. The problem is that when the wash cycle starts, it usually drains the remaining water first, then starts filling it up. This happens until the water starts filling. The pump runs, but there's no water, which is probably why the humming noise is coming from. It pumps for about a minute, and then the machine stops and goes into pause mode. It doesn't display any error messages. But, thanks to the internet, I found a diagnostic method. At the end of the cycle, it displayed the E33 error, which means there's a fault with the water level sensors. What next? What should I do? Yes, the machine is in the suburbs, too. Thank you!
Try cleaning the hose leading to the pressure switch. If the pressure switch is a contact switch, test the contacts by applying pressure to it (you can use air from a large syringe through a drip hose). Check the wire connections. If everything is working properly, then the control module is likely not detecting the empty tank activation.
Most likely, the motor brushes are worn out, causing the motor to fail to accelerate. The car will recognize this as a faulty speed sensor (tachogenerator). Proper brush replacement will 90% resolve this issue. The tachogenerator may also be at fault. Start with the brushes (a set costs about 150 rubles), cleaning the rotor contact pads and removing any remaining graphite dust with a stiff paintbrush dipped in acetone (be careful not to get the windings wet with acetone). Then, using a strip of sandpaper with a "zero" grit facing the brushes, smooth the surface of the new brushes. If the error persists, replace the tachogenerator.
Hello. Could you please tell me how to fix this problem? My LG WD-80154N washing machine has been serving me faithfully for over 10 years (we only replaced the pump and heating element), but recently I've developed a problem: when there are about 3 minutes left in the cycle, the timer resets to 13 minutes and simultaneously drains and fills with water. The machine hums, but the drum doesn't spin. I have to unplug it and take the laundry out without it being fully spun. If you can, can you tell me how to fix this? Thank you in advance.
I have the same machine, and the problem is it won't finish washing. The pump takes a very long time to pump out water, and the timer gets stuck at the 3-minute mark. The pressure switch is most likely faulty, I'll check it out.
Hello, I have an Ariston ATD 104. I'm getting error code F-08 during the wash cycle and even during the spin cycle. Could you please tell me what this means?
Hello. Could you please tell me? My Indesit washing machine washes normally at first, then reaches the rinse cycle and stops. It displays the F10 error. Thanks in advance!
Hello, could you please tell me? My Candy washing machine fills up to the drum and then stops. I can hear a sound like something is spinning inside. It doesn't do anything else. What is it?
Could you please help? When I plug my washing machine into the outlet, after about half a minute, two lights flash—the delay timer, the quick wash, and then the start button. Am I correct in assuming this is an F10 error? It's an Ariston AVSL109R. Is the water level sensor the issue? It makes a noise when it starts (as if it's filling and draining), but there's no water and the drum doesn't spin; it just twitches and that's it. I added water separately—it drains fine.
My old Samsung washing machine fills with water normally, washes normally, and rinses normally, although it might only rinse once or three times. But the spin cycle never starts, even though something is happening inside, and then it freezes. If I only turn on the spin cycle after that, it freezes right away. I cleaned all the hoses, checked the pump, and removed the pressure gauge. It seems to be working, because water drains and refills during the wash and rinse cycles. So why does it fail during the spin cycle? I still suspect the water level sensor, right? I'd be grateful for an answer.
I have the same problem when the washing machine is out of level. When the spin cycle starts, it starts to take off, and then it freezes to avoid damaging the drum. Try re-leveling the machine.
I have the same problem with my Indesit W181. It fills up and then immediately drains, and the mode selector clicks in a circle. I can't figure it out yet. Have you found the cause?
I have the same problem! When I set the wash cycle, the water fills and drains, and all the lights flash. If I set the rinse, spin, or drain cycle, the program runs, but the same light effect occurs. For now, we're stuck using the rinse cycle; we haven't figured out the problem yet.
My LG washing machine washes and rinses, but there's no spin cycle. It makes a grinding noise when draining. I checked the pump and the hoses, and the control panel shows it looks like the tank hasn't been drained, but the tank is empty. Is the pump or the pressure switch dead?
My Samsung WF7520 won't reach the maximum spin speed (the motor and tachometer are working properly). Blowing into the DN-S14 pressure switch solves the problem. The tube from the pressure switch into the chamber has also been blown out. Is this the problem?
Friends! Please tell me how to solve this problem. I have a Samsung Diamond 6.0 kg washing machine. It lasted about eight years without any problems, as we have a large family, washing several loads every day. And, as expected, the bearings wore out. We called a repairman, and this monster removed the drum and took it away. He arrived three days later and said he had replaced the spider, bearings, and seal! He charged my mother a fortune. Okay, so what's done is done. We started doing daily washes, and then the problems started popping up—error 5d—around the end of the wash cycle. This means there's too much foam in the machine, but in reality, there isn't any. We've gotten used to this kind of washing! But then the bearings started making noise and the machine started jumping like a horse. I was fed up with all this and decided to fix what the incompetent repairman couldn't. Upon disassembling, I discovered he hadn't replaced the universal joint, only one bearing (the main one), the cheapest oil seal, and didn't apply grease to the seal (judging by the severe wear on the universal joint shaft). So, I did everything myself: replaced the universal joint, three mega-expensive bolts, the original oil seal, and two bearings! Now the car runs very quietly, but the 5d problem persists. Can you tell me what this mechanic might have screwed up? How can I fix the problem?
My Candy CS 105 TXT started displaying error 3 during the spin cycle about a week ago. I cleaned the filter, but it didn't help. I replaced the pump, and it worked for a couple of days, but then it returned with error 3. It drains most of the water, then pumps for a long time and then goes into error mode. When I open the filter, 50-100 ml of water spills out. What could be the problem?
Good afternoon. Could you please tell me why my Atlant washing machine is using very little water, and it's washing and rinsing clothes that are practically dry?
The LG system works fine until the drain starts, but when it's time to drain, a humming noise occurs and the pump doesn't turn on. After a power outage, sometimes multiple times, the pump starts working properly until it's finished or until the next drain. If the drain doesn't complete, an OE error appears after the humming noise.
Hello! Please help me figure this out! My Indesit IWSC 6105. The pause/start indicator lights up first, then after I set the wash program, all the programs start flashing, and the rinse and spin indicators light up. The lock doesn't light up at all. What could this be? I had the machine for a year, then I didn't use it at all for about two years.
There are two reasons: first - the firmware crashed; The second is that the processor is faulty. In the first case, try reflashing the firmware. If that doesn't help, then you'll need to replace the processor.
My Samsung stopped pumping water. The cause was a burnt-out wire between the pump coils. This was fixed by soldering. The pump started working, but after the second pumping cycle, a sound similar to an explosion was heard. An inspection revealed that the pump coil winding had burned out. The coils were replaced with new ones, but power was lost. No burnt-out wires were visible. Could you please tell me what the cause is? Thank you.
Hello. Could you tell me what the problem is? I have an Ardo washing machine. When I turn it on, the machine starts filling with water in bursts. It starts to flow, then stops. After a certain amount of time, it starts to flow. Can anyone tell me where I need to look for a repair?
Hello. What's wrong? The machine washes, rinses, fills and drains, but doesn't spin. We've checked all the pipes, blown out the pump, and cleaned the filter. But there's no spin. My machine is a Zanussi Aquacycle 800 Fa832.
My Indesit W105TX washing machine starts washing, but doesn't start the rinse or spin cycle. Sometimes, no program starts at all. Sometimes, it washes (but doesn't rinse or spin), and the program dial clicks in a circle. It seems to be acting like it's on its own. Can you tell me what could be causing this? The machine is old, about 11 years old.
Hello! I have a Candy Grand Evo washing machine! It washes, but when it spins, it displays error codes E03 and E16! I checked the pump (it's working). The pressure switch seems to click when I blow into it. I cleaned the hoses and blew out the drain. While the machine was running, it seemed like it wasn't filling and draining properly! There was also a humming noise near the pump during the drain cycle, but it stopped after cleaning.
Hello. I have a Hotpoint Ariston ARXL109 washing machine. It takes in a lot of water and then drains. Sometimes it works fine, and I try to rewash everything. But the rinse cycle always works like clockwork, without a hitch. I blew on the pressure switch, and it clicked. What should I do?
The washing machine stopped draining and started filling with too much water. As always, the repairmen's verdict is that the circuit board has blown, the pressure switch. It's simple. You need to check the pressure switch like this: turn on the machine, disconnect the hose from the pressure switch, and blow into it. If the filling stops, the wash will start. This means there's no pressure in the compressor chamber. What should I do if the tank is non-detachable? I'll have to spend 10,000 rubles, cut it, and glue it. The repairman says the warranty is 3 months. I simply cleaned the hose, took some wire, cleaned the compressor tank, and blew into the hose. The machine started working again. That's all for me.
Good afternoon Indesit WISE10. I've tried everything described for error F05. It doesn't help. When there's no laundry, the machine fills with water and drains completely. But as soon as I load it, even partially, it doesn't drain and the same error message appears again. Could you tell me if all the possible causes of the problem have been listed yet? Best regards.
The DN-S14 pressure switch is a frequency generator. Contacts 1 and 3 supply 5 volts, while contact 3 is a signal with an empty tank; the frequency is approximately 26 kHz. The mechanical component is a coil with variable inductance depending on the pressure applied to the diaphragm. A ferrite core is embedded in the coil.
Good afternoon! My Indesit washing machine (aka Stallbar (Ikea)) isn't filling with water. All the lights are flashing simultaneously, but nothing happens. I checked the coils on the inlet valve; both have a resistance of 6 kOhm. When voltage is applied to the coil contacts, I hear a click, followed by a barely audible, high-pitched buzzing sound. What could be the reason?
The cause of error F08 turned out to be a malfunction of the input capacitor block on the power cord.
What does E2.E9 mean on a Daewoo DWC-1212 washing machine? How can I fix it?
Hello, my Candy C2 085R washing machine drains on every cycle, the level sensor is blown, and the contacts are clicking. What other problems could be associated with constant draining on absolutely every cycle? Thanks in advance!

It is necessary to look at the board, since the signal comes from it.
The pressure switch clicks the first time (it should stop the water supply), but it doesn't. As the pressure increases, it clicks a second time and the water drain valve opens. The water drains and refills.
The pressure switch is faulty, replace it.
Check and test the wires from the level sensor to the power module connector. Either pry the latter out, or replace the pressure switch.
I removed the pressure switch from my LG, and when I shake it, something inside rattles.

The machine is SAMSUNG, you empty a bucket of water and then it pours out on its own, but otherwise it washes normally.
Replace the drain pump.
There are two reasons:
first - the firmware crashed;
The second is that the processor is faulty.
Hello! My Siemens 10-16 washer displays error #18 during washing! I've cleaned the drain hose and pump, but that doesn't help! What should I do?
Good afternoon
Indesit WISE10.
OE error. Samsung WF-S862 machine. It fills with water, starts washing, and then drains after 3-5 minutes. The OE light comes on.
Good afternoon. Where is the pressure switch on the Electrolux 9120W top-loading washing machine?
My Samsung washing machine lights up with an E7 error when I turn it on. What should I do?
Hello, could you please tell me? When I turn on my Indesit washing machine, all the buttons light up as soon as the water fills.
